We just got back from 6 nites at BWV and had a great time. Everything was wonderful. It looked like the root had been redone and was great. One thing happened on Thurs nite though that was odd. We went to dinner at Flying Fish around 5:45p. Around 7:30 I went up to get a jacket (we were going on an Illuminations Cruise). As I approached our room the door was open with the latch holding the door propped. Now we all left together and none of us returned to the room until I did. There was me, DH and DS (10). I called into the room. The lights were all off (I had shut them when we left) and my fanny pack was on the table. I immediately called the front desk. I explained what happened. I told them I had not called maintenance, housekeeping or engineering. They said they would check and see if anyone had gone into the room. About 5 min later the manager called and came up with security. We checked everything, nothing was missing. The Mgr said he would check all the hotel logs to see if anyone came in for any reason. We all left. When we returned the Mgr had left a message that no one had been in the room. Very odd...but nothing was taken. Just thought I would let you all know.

You did the right thing not entering the room. It sounds like the latch must have somehow blocked the door when you thought you shut it. (I only say this because the hotel should be able to tell if a key was used to enter the room and the manager indicated that no one had entered the room.) It's a good caution that we need to be "sure" that the door is shut, even when we think it is. (One of my neighbors left for vacation one time with the front door wide open! :earseek: :earseek: She didn't mean to do that.)

AT OKW some guests of ours went off all day and left their studio door accidently propped with the latch...so it can happen. Nothing was missing from their room, but it is a weird feeling to return and see the door open.

Last week we visited BCV and when returning from Beaches and Cream we walked up to the SUV and the drivers side door was wide open. First thought - someone broke in and got my husbands wallet.....wallet was there!!!! Second thought......DH got distracted by kids and walked away with door open DUH!!! Amazed that door was like that for almost two hours and everything intact. Lucky again...

Last Dec we were at VWL & I didn't like the way the door closed. It would shut realllll slowwww and at the very end speed up and usually latch - but not always. We always had to double check to make sure it locked.

We have also had the same experience with many WDW resort doors. We always make sure we check to make sure the door is locked, before we take off.

Either my wife or I check to make sure the doors on our rooms latch. The kids are never the last to leave the room :).

Niagara2...This just happened to us last weekend. I left the passenger door open in a parking garage, once we got to the elevator we realized we needed something else from the car. My DH ran back to get it, glad he did. Kids can certainly be distracting.

I think this is a saftey feature because I noticed it at the opther resorts as well. It is probably so the heavy doors don't knock down a little kid or slam you in the back when you are walking out.

What a scary thing I would not have gone in the room either I would be too freaked out. I never knew that your room logged when you used the key that is great!

This happened to us once at a non Disney resort and it was determined that housekeeping had left the door propped open. I was furious as all my camera equipemnt was in the room, but the only thing missing was a beer out of the fridge. Our entire stay ended up comped due to the incident.

Glad everything worked out ok for you!

It is creepy when you think of the rooms as "home" and find someone has entered. On our spring trip to OKW, I was doing laundry in the laundry room of our 2-bedroom unit and I thought I heard someone come in. Mom was in the shower and Dad and hubby had the kids at the pool. I yelled "Hello?" and walked out, thank goodness not in my undies because a housekeeper was in my kitchen! I had the door locked but not latched and we hadn't gotten around to putting up the privacy sign -- we had just checked in a few hours earlier. I startled her and she startled me, and I said something like "Why are you here?" She had a piece of paper with her, and opened the kitchen cabinet to insert it - - I think it was a replacement for the inventory sheet. She seemed anxious and left quickly, but it upset me. Later I realized the poor woman must have needed to enter briefly and knocked, and because of the shower and laundry noise, I heard nothing and she thought no one was in. But it taught me a lesson -- they DO come into "your" room. Now we leave that privacy sign up 24/7 and really think about what we leave "laying around."

We just got back from 7 days at BWV and had a similar creepy experience. Twice we returned to the room to find the windows to the balconys open - once the main room and once in the MBR. We didn't call the front desk because we didn't know for certain if we had not shut the doors properly, but we found it odd because we really had no reason to go outside. Our unit faced the driveway and we were rarely in the room. We think the windows were left open on the two days when Housekeeping was in the room - once for T & T and the first day we were there to fix a bed.

Weird.

mmmcq,
we too were facing the driveway. What floor were you on? We were on the 4th.

I think I may have to call Boardwalk after all. We were in 4069 and 4071....where were you?

Oh my we were in 4103. What day did it happen to you? For us it was on Thursday nite between 5:45 - 7:30.

We ignored it the first time - which we think was on Sunday. The second time I recall it was on Tuesday. Both days we left the room by 8am and then 6:30 am (my girls went surfing at Typhoon Lagoon) and didn't return until after 5pm. So we have no idea when they were left open.

So it's probably just a strange coincidence. I kept the "privacy please" signs on 4071 the whole week as a result. We had one on 4069 the first night we were there, but strangely that sign disappeared sometime in the first 2 days and we never found it again.

We did have one night when there were kids running up and down the halls at 2am (keeping us up).....so we just assumed they had taken the sign off as a prank.

We didn't find anything obvious missing....so still there's nothing really to report. Just a weird coincidence.

We were in 4061 over Easter week and came "home" to find out balcony doors open on two occasions. Im sure the wind blew them after us not shutting them correctly.

We had a similiar thing happen this past March. We returned to our room at OKW and found a few things "changed". The curtains in the bedroom were opened. I closed them when we arrived and hadn't touched them. The door to the TV cabinet was closed. We never close it once we're there. So I did call the front desk. While nothing was missing, it was incredibly creepy. They said they would check to see if anyone had been in the room. They called us back the next morning to tell us maintenance had indeed been in. They were doing routine check ups on the room, making sure blinds worked, the door on the TV cabinet were working properly, etc. I wish they would have left us a note telling us they were in. I would have slept so much better that night.

The units at OKW are so big that, even without noise, it's hard to recognize a knock on the front door if you are in another room. I have a feeling OKW housekeepers see things they wish they hadn't more often than they'd like.

Also _ found strange last week at OKW.....got up at 8:30 am and saw a stack of clean towels and toilet paper on the chair in the living room. Both my kids were asleep on the pull out. That means we didn't hear the knock, nor the kids who could sleep through an earthquake, and housekeeping entered the room while we were all sleeping! I would think if they saw kids sleeping on couch they would leave as fast as they entered. They left the supplies, even coffee as it was our trash and towel day. They even went into the laundry room and left the detergent. Thinking back now, this is odd. It sickens me to think that me and DH slept though someone in the room with the kids while they slept.
