from 3/19 to 3/26. We loved our 8 nights in our 1 bdr at BWV and felt that the crowds were much less than what we expected.
Check In: We arrived around 2 pm Friday afternoon and were the only ones at the desk when we walked to the check in area so we had our pick of the available guest service reps (NO WAITING). We got a very sincere "Welcome Home" and were served in true Disney style including being able to get right into our room.
Room Location: We were given Preferred Room #3091, which had a view of the quiet pool by the community hall, the waterway to MGM, the Tower of Terror and the Fantasmic fireworks every night. The room was a moderate distance from the elevators, but we didn't really use them much as it was 2 doors from the stairs that opened up between the main pool & the quiet pool/Community Hall. It was quicker to take the stairs than the elevator for most activities except when we wanted to use our car. There were a few minor issues with the bathroom (a loose door knob, mold in the shower and a toilet that didn't fill up enough so that it would flush). Not a big deal as maintenance came right up to fix it and we never had a problem with it again.
1st Day: Our family loves ESPN Club for appetizers so once we got checked in we headed out for food and an update on the NCAA tournament games. A perfect start to our trip as far as all of us are concerned. Love those dingers, wings and nachos. Once filled with food & drink, we headed to the pool for a dip before going grocery shopping at Publix (great prices & selection, but we had a rather strange bagger). The day ended with us watching the Fantasmic fireworks from our porch deck.
General: This vacation was scheduled as a "relaxing" time of fun, food & sun. Having been to the parks several times over the years, we've definitely settled into very relaxed park mode from the early commando days. Each one of us picked must do's, want to do's and maybe's. We got thru everyone's list and did other things too. As a family, we spent a lot of time by water (meaning we did the resort pools and water parks) vs the parks heavy duty. DH & DD love to sleep in & don't like the thrill rides, so DS and I did a couple of early entry days at MGM to get our fill of TOT and Rockin Roller Coaster. We walked on the pathway and were back by the time the other 2 got up.
Food: Didn't really eat out much since we had the kitchen. My husband loves to cook so we did dinner in the room. Groceries were very reasonable at Publix and we'd recommend this as the place to shop. Places we ate are shown below:
-Late lunch at SciFi (overpriced, slow service though the atmosphere is unique and the food was okay - kids loved the milkshakes)
-Late lunch & appetizers at ESPN Club several times (we love this club, but it was even more special to be there during the NCAA tournament). We were luck enough to be there Friday night when Mike Alstott was there. Our kids got autographs and pictures.
-Dinner at the cantina in Mexico (decent prices and we had a perfect location to view Illuminations - We just happened to be there about 6:45 pm and snagged a good spot to eat).
-Dinner offsite (Yikes!! - I won't pay the WDW for steak, sorry!!)
-Turkey legs at Epcot, Typhoon Lagoon and Magic Kingdom
We had hoped to go to Boma's but just couldn't work it out in our schedule. Maybe next time.
Other Activities: Surrey bikes, miniature golf, Disney Quest, shopping/eating at Downtown Disney, Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach and a pre-season Braves vs Cardinals baseball game at the Wide World of Sports. Had hoped to do Cirque, but I couldn't convince my family that it would be neat....maybe next trip.
Wishing we could have stayed another week, but after seeing the crowds coming in as we left we were happy to head home. Hope that the weather is great for everyone there this week...we're back to 40's & 50's in Illinois.
