Just Back from AKV studio

Just back from 3 days at AKV (my 1st trip home). Myself & 2 girlfriends had a studio with savannah view ...HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA
NO VIEW...saw 3 animals although had a wonderful view of the new Kindani Village construction, which was LOUD . Studio was great, looooooooong hike to the elevators, but wont spend the money on the savanah view again till ALLLLLL the construction is done, really disappointed wish i would have saved those extra points.

so sorry your trip wasn't as great as you would have liked it - done both standard and value - loved them - easy access to the lobby and buses.

will definitely do either again. (if I can)

Did you give any thought to paying the money to have the room changed? I would have been very disappointed. I stayed in Savannah view studio once so far, and it was magnificent. I think it was the Arusha savannah. Once I had a value room that faced the Sunset savannah and still we saw animals, and construction.

I think I would have paid to have my room changed.

My sister just stayed at AKV this month with the construction.

I loved the place so much that even though it was a bummer to see less of the animals ( except of course the John Deer ) all I could imagine was how cool it would be when it was done...

That must mean you were on the Sunset savanna. That surprises me that you saw so few animals, because that savanna is currently made very small due to construction, and when we were there in March, there were a LOT of animals on Sunset savanna. There should be 3 giraffes, several Ankole cattle, zebras, ostrich, and in a seperate pen, red river hogs.

DH and I will be staying at AKV in a SV studio for the first time in June. Are there any areas we should request? I would rather be far away from Kidani construction. Any suggestions??

I think timing is important when it comes to the Sunset Savanna. If your room is near an area where the keepers put out food and you are in your room when they make their rounds then you will see a lot of animals. Between feedings a lot of the animals like to hang out at the far end of the savanna. Also, the animals are taken off each of the savannas and into the barn for two hours each day. I think the animals on the Sunset Savanna go into the barn around 8:30am.

One thing that bothers me about them doing this to you is that I was told that the regular rooms there (not DVC) facing that savannah are being sold as standard rooms, not savannah view rooms. A CM at AKL told me this when I was there a few weeks ago. I had a lovely view from Arusha savannah, but I can certainly understand your disappointment being where you were. I didn't think it was too pleasant a sight. If you look down, it's OK, but look ahead and here's what you might see-
