Hi all!

Just back from a wonderful stay at AKL April 20-25. I had a Sunset Savannah view room on the 4th floor and it was really wonderful. Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll try my best to answer them!

Thanks!

Glad to hear you had a great stay.
Were they still working on the pool while you were there?

We are staying in a standard savannah view room in August. I have no idea which view to choose. Any suggestions? Also, what floor would be best? Glad you had a good trip! Anna

We just booked a last minute trip and I got a great rate for AKL. I had standard, but upgraded to Savanah view....Did you spend enough time at the resort to make it worth the extra money?? :goodvibes

We are just staying 3 nights and only going to SeaWorld this trip. So we will have a couple days to spend just enjoying the resort.
Would you recommend requesting the Sunset view???

Did you eat at Boma??? Is it worth the money? :)

Thanks for any help.

Just back from a wonderful stay at AKL April 20-25. I had a Sunset Savannah view room on the 4th floor and it was really wonderful. Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll try my best to answer them!

We are staying for six nights in early June and I'd like to know two things. One, what's the best view to request, and two what activities did they have for kids?

Stitch- They were working on a very small section of the deck near one of the spas. (The one nearer to where the flamingo pond is.) They were working on it when I checked in and had finished by yesterday. I didn't see that they had started any new work. The CMs I talked to said that all they are doing is some very minor work to repair small sections of the deck and it should not effect the operation of the pool whatsoever.

Annae- I had requested an upper floor room with a view of the Arusha Savannah. I ended up in room 4136, which is on the Sunset Savannah, far down to the end of the Ostrich trail. For room location, I prefered an upper floor room since you do get a wider view of the Savannah. The trade off is that you are farther away from the animals-- it's really a personal preference thing. Arusha or Sunset Savannah would be my preference-- I never did see much going on anytime I was looking at the Uzima Savannah. Also, if you care about how far you are from the elevators, I would request that as well. My room was 125 steps (I counted) from the elevators-- and some rooms were much more removed than that.

Michelle- I was really happy I upgraded to a Savannah View. I originally had a pool view, but upgraded (for less money) when the AP discounts came out. I was in the room in the morning, for an afternoon break and at night after dark. Mornings were very active, as that was feeding time on Sunset. I even ordered room service breakfast one morning and ate on the balcony-- and experince I'd highly recommend. The animals are off savannah for about 2 hours per day-- in the early afternoon usually. I think you'll be very happy with your decision to upgrade.

If I were to stay at AKL again (which I would do in a heartbeat) I would request the Sunset Savannah again. I felt that it seemed a little more intimate than Arusha did, because it felt like there were fewer rooms on that side of the resort. (Personal opinion, of course)

I love Boma! I'd eaten there twice before this trip and once during (for dinner). It provides a great opportunity to try things you would never ordinarily try, but also has enough basic stuff for picky eaters. Well worth the money, in my opinion. Just make sure to make it a light lunch day. :)

Keep those questions coming!

Check out my response to Annae- I think that best sums up my opinion on views. If I were to do it again, I would request a room in the same location in a heartbeat, which was 4th floor, Sunset Savannah on Ostrich trail. Fair warning, though that Disney does not guarantee requests and not all the requests I had made prior to this trip were granted (although I am not complaining by any stretch.)

They did have a ton of kids activities going on and I do have the list at home (I'm at the office right now). I will make sure to reply to that part of your question when I get home this evening. I will say that everytime I happened on one, the kids looked like they were really enjoying themselves. Also, make sure they talk to the cast members from Africa working there. They appeared to be wonderful with kids and answering lots of questions.

Does the Animal Kingdom Lodge have a gym? I am a complete workout nut, and i'll probably be up at 6 or 7 every morning to get my morning routine in.

For kids, AKL has the following activities that would be good for kids:

- Flamingo Feedings
- Animal Tracking
- Games with Savannah Guides
- Cookie Decorating at Boma
- African Folktales at the Arusha Rock Firepit
- Animal Viewing with Night Vision
- Family Pool Games
- African Crafts and Games
- Arts and Crafts with the Lifeguards

In addition, there are a variety of adult oriented tours. Up to date times can be found throughout your visit be visiting the time boards at Bell Services or outside of Boma.

Hope this helps!

Wow Kimberly, that was my plan too!! (But only managed one workout over the course of 5 mornings) :guilty: Anyhow, the Zatahani (SP) Fitness Center is located off the pool and is full service-- with saunas, steam rooms, cardio equipment and weights. It is very nice and certainly not like a lot of hotel "fitness centers" with a treadmill and a couple of free weights. It should be adaquate for what you need.

Hope this helps!

How long was the bus ride from AKL to MK? Did the buses come around on a pretty regular basis?

Thanks :earsboy:

Bus rides to MK took about 15-20 minutes usually. My experience with the buses to MK were generally very good-- never too long of a wait in either direction.

I felt like the waits getting back from Epcot at night were a little longer than they needed to be, but I was never back at the resort any later than 10:15 (and I watch Illuminations from the back of the park). If you are planning on spending a lot of time at Downtown Disney or checking out other resorts or the water parks, a rental car might be a good idea- just simply due to AKL's remoteness.

Hope this helps!

We will staying at the AKL for our first trip to WDW and some of our questions have been answered in the prior posts. But I still have a few minor questions.

We will have a deluxe room, but when or how do we request a specific area. We would like to be near the elevators because we have 3 small children. Do you know which area this would be located in? What would you suggest for a good view of the animals and close to the elevator?

Also, we will be eating breakfast at Bomas - do you recommend making a PS? Also, do you know what time they start serving breakfast and start serving dinner? I am working on our itinerary and am "new" at this Disney stuff.

I know my questions sound minor, but answers would be so helpful in planning. Thank you for taking the time to reply. Your post is making me even more excited for our upcoming trip!!!!!!!

We are staying at AKL for the first time in May,but have been to Disney several times since 2001. I would definetly say get a PS for Boma. I called WDW dining and made a PS for breakfast and one dinner at Boma. It sounds like a popular place and I would rather have the PS than take a chance without one. You can always cancel if you don't use them.

I am going to request the Sunset Savanah view. I have heard good things! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Ohana at the Poly is another great place to eat with kids and a great view of the castle...... :goodvibes We love eating there and a PS is necessary.

We will be there the first week in June, too. Any chance you have kids in the 10-12 year old range, lol! I know my kids will be looking for playmates at the pool.

I just called actually last night to find out they had a gym, and it's for 45 dollars for the entire time i'm going to be there. And considering i'll be there for 8 nights (almost 9 full days), to pay about 5 dollars per day for a gym membership is excellent.

I really cannot wait, the last time i was at disneyworld i barely even got to see the parks, and this time i'm staying at (from what i hear) one of the best hotels!

One last question. Are the suites on the concierge level? I'm going with my friend's family, and they've decided to rent out a 2 bedroom suite. I've never been on a concierge level before...

My one child is only four so sorry. I'm sure there will be plenty of water pals around the pool.

Hey solo,
I have an AKL stay coming up soon. I haven't stayed there yet.
Were you able to observe many animals from your room? I hope the resort feels a bit more laid back than others do. Do all savannah views have balconies?

J.Q.

Is the story telling only available to AKL guests? If not what time does it usually take place? ( I really want an excuse to make a trip to visit this resort other than eating there!) :rolleyes1

Is there a clothesline in the shower to hang wet suits on? I know they have these in other Disney resorts and am hoping that AK has them too. Then I can pack a few clothespins and drip dry our suits.

Thank you for posting about your trip and offering to answer questions about AK. That is very thoughtful of you :earboy2:
