We just got back from a wonderful week skiing at Snowbird/Alta, Utah. This was by far one of our best vacations ever.

If anyone is looking to use their points to ski I can wholeheartedly recommend the Iron Blossam at Snowbird.

There was no squabbling between the kids and everyone had a great time!

We arranged the exchange less then 6 months out. On a whim my wife called member services and asked what might be available in February in Utah. We were offered a studio at Iron Blossam or a 1 bed room at Brian Head.

We had visited Snowbird in the summer a long time ago so she picked Iron Blossam even though we were not to happy about the studio. So 134 points were deducted and we started the planning.

The room turned out to be a Studio/efficiency. It was more a cross between a Disney Studio and a Disney 1 Bedroom without the separate bedroom.

We had the full complement of kitchen equipment,(oven, cook-top, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, plates, silverware, pots, etc...) a pull out sofa, a murphy bed, and a table that could seat four.

We also had a spectacular view of the ski slopes on the fifth floor which turned out to be the ground floor for the walking path to the other lodges and the Snowbird center. We didn't have to use the elevators or stairs when leaving or returning.

The pull out sofa was one of the new style no bar, integrated mattress/cushion sofa beds. It is where my wife and I ended up sleeping and after a hard long day skiing it was more then comfortable for me. My poor wife had a bought of insomnia while we were there though and only slept for a few hours each night. Once back home she found out she had a sinus infection and thinks she may have had a case of altitude sickness. Insomnia and a swollen face are two of the side effects and she had both.

The only real downside was the thermostat. If you guys think the Disney thermostats with their motion sensors are bad you haven't seen anything yet. All you had was a dial to ask for it to be warmer or colder. We happened to be there during a warm spell (40-50 during the day) and no matter how low we turned the thermostat the room was boiling. We ended up keeping the balcony door open 24/7 to keep the room comfortable.

I could go on and on because we had so much fun. Instead I will attach a few pictures of the room and send you to our photo gallery for more pictures.

We have a DS who wants us to use some of our points for his passion, going skiing. It's nice to know that it could be done!

Glad you had a great time. My ds and "the old guy" want to go skiing next year. Hope they still offer this place.

Thank you for the great report we will be trying something other than home(Disney) sooner or later. This sounds great, was there snowmobiling, tubing....
Thanks

They had ice skating, snowmobiling, snow shoeing, etc... but no tubing. You had to go elsewhere for tubing.

We opted to rent a car for the day our last day and do the Tube and Train. We rode an old train for about 20 minutes which took us to Soldier Hollow (Site of the 2002 Olympic Cross Country events) where we tubed for an hour and a half. Then the train picked us up again for the ride back to the car.

Was it a must tot rent a car, would a cab have done the job? I guess I am spoiled by Disney.:goodvibes

You did need to rent a car. It was about an hours drive. Enterprise keeps cars there at Snowbird so you pick up and return there.
