Just Back From a Great Stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge!

I will pull together a trip report once I get all the unpacking, laundry and grocery shopping out of the way, but we just arrived back last night from a wonderful 8 night stay at AKL.

We had booked a pool view room but were upgraded to a savanna room. It was a great location ....3506 (bunkbed room) looking out on the Uzima Savanna. We saw lots of animals and we were only three doors away from the elevator to Mara.

The CMs were wonderful, the bus tranportation was very good.

It ws great to come back from the parks and totally unwind the
minute you walked into the lobby. It was so relaxing.

That resort has that effect on us too! Love that place! Can't wait until December!

Glad to hear you had a nice time at AKL. The upgrade sounds great. It is always nice when that happens. Did Cass and Noel join you this time? I know you guys had alot of fun at AKL last summer. I remember Cass + Noel's trip report, along with yours and hope they are okay. I look forward to to your trip report! Tell Cass hello for us!

No...Cass and Noel didn't join us this time as they went on an Alaskan cruise this summer, but our thoughts were with them as it we were with them last year this week at AKL.

I'm so excited to be going there...we had to book the Savannah double bunks because there are 5 of us (I wanted Savannah anyway), so now my hope is that I'll be able to apply a discount (I'm trying, I'm just going to keep calling and calling).

I'm looking for a AKL ongoing thread now...I'd like to get a better stream of feedback!

Winnie Pooh Fan, I know just how you feel being a die hard WL fan! Now I've decided AKL would be our choice for a summer vacation with the heat and the savannas and the pool, the whole theme really fits. But if I were going near Christmas I would still have to stay at my WL!!!

We are a family of 5. Will we be guaranteed a Savannah View with the Bunkbed/daybed room? My son is insisting we HAVE to have a view of the animals.

Thank you for you trip report, I was beginning to get a little worried, I have been looking at several reliable forums lately and many of the reports for AKL have not been favourable, perhaps its just a glitch, but I was surprised on tripadvisor.com to read more than a few consecutive poor comments and exceptionally low marks.

We were blown away by the Animal Kingdom Lodge when we looked round it in 2002 and it has been a dream since then to stay there, we are getting married November 9th and to make the occassion perfect we saved hard to book the AKL. I just hope its everything we expect.

Any words of encouragement would be most gratefully received

For a family of five, you need the deluxe bunk room you mentioned, and you have to specify whether you want Pool or Savannah view (Savannah costs more).

Sharon/Mark, AKL isn't for everyone and I think that's why it gets bad reviews sometimes. Some people don't like the dark decor or the secluded feeling of the resort. I know I've been unlucky and fallen upon some bad service at even my favourite resorts. Everyone has different tastes and I think I've read bad reviews on every resort. I think the only way to know if you like it, is if you try it out yourself.

BTW, AKL is one of my favourite places to be. I love the animals, and the quiet, and the cool giftshop, and the interesting CMs from all over Africa. I feel happy when I'm there

Also - keep in mind that ANYONE can write whatever they want on tripadvisor.com. I have read that competitors will go on and write negative reviews, particularly with key negative remarks...you really can only take those reviews with a grain of salt. I would trust this board MUCH more.
I also happen to LOVE AKL and can tell you it is amazing. As stated by others, one can have an isolated bad experience at any resort...
