Wow! What a great resort!

Drove down from MA on Thursday 12/2, we left very early thanks to my 2 YO being awake at 3AM and us not being able to get back to sleep :cat: . Stayed in Fayetville, NC for the night and arrived at my parent's home in The Villages, FL around 3pm on Friday. My 2 DDs (2&5) were great and we found that the portable DVD player we purchased a wonderful investment! The weather going down was clear and sunny. When we arrived the weather was overcast and chilly both Friday and Saturday. The weather cleared up and warmed up fantasticaly the rest of the week was in the 80s and humid. The trip home (to MA LOL) was clear warm and sunny on Friday but rainy and miserable on Saturday, but at least it wasn't snowing!
On Sunday we had breakfast with the Princesses in Norway-we had a terrible time. We didn't get a chance to meet Aurora, both my DD's favorite, she was running terribly late and we probably would've waited for her for another 20minutes at least! My oldest DD and my DH are allergic to eggs so basically the only reason why we were there was to meet the princesses too. We tried speaking with the chef, asked for the eggs to be served separatly, but ended up with DH and DD's meals pre plated with WAFFLES! When I questioned this to the waiter he was kind of stand offish about it stating that the "chef wouldn't have given them if they had eggs in them" well, I had DH (the egg tester LOL) taste them and he thought that there were eggs in them. Also DH and DD could've had the biscuits but they didn't serve them to them. We had a really bad experience here especially compared to the other meals we ate (Boma, Le Cellier, Liberty Tree and heck even at Ghirdelli they did a great -went above and beyond-job making sure there were no eggs in our food) I would love to write and complain about it.
We got to "open the Tavern" at LTT that was way fun!

At the begining of our trip alot of CMs seemed kinda grumpy-for no reason- or at least none that I could tell, but as our stay went on it seemed that those were the exceptions. It was a bit more crowded the first few days than I expected but the levels went way down toward Wednesday and Thursday-mabe that's why. All I know is that its very strange being alone on NY street in MGM...
I found that MGM had the best Christmas Decorations and The Spectacle of Lights was great (LOVED THE SNOW!*especially in 80 degree weather*).
Now for SSR-I loved it! I Love being members, I Love having APs, totally changes how you see the parks. We saved probably a few hundred $ by eating breakfast and dinner/lunch in our room. The pool was great (oh and was that a *slight* odor of manure at HRS or was that my imagination?), slides fantastic. Or room had fireworks views, Epcot and MK (saw and heard slightly illuminations and Wishes)-the room # was 2832 in case anyone wants a FW view and wants to request it. Only small complaint is is that we our studio was not stocked like it should've been (had to call and request bowls, we had no sponge), and a drawer was broken in the dresser. Oh and it was too funny going from SSR on Thursday to a very run down motel on I95 in Rocky Mt, NC...
And I couldn't believe all the people we met from MA and all the Red Sox attire we saw every day....
Oh and one last thing...I admit that I'd rather stay in a 1B than a Studio...I sense an add on in the future, I can clearly see the advantages now-especially with the girls...

Hi,

Thanks for sharing!!

Allison aka Ms. Sparrow

You'll love a 1-bedroom. And since your kids are both the girls, you probably won't have to add on again for a 2-bedroom. At least not until the girls are old enough to bring their friends...

Thanks for the report!
Cant wait to see the NYE fireworks from SSR!

I agree about Akershus in Norway. They are not Disney owned and I found them to be indifferent to my situation. We will never spend money there again.

LOL! I just logged on to post a quick thread about my in-laws experience so far at SSR - they are staying there on my points, in a studio, and I just spoke to them this morning.

They also live in The Villages, and we'll also be driving from MA soon! *grin* Small world. Looking forward to seeing their new 'home' and trying out their golf cart...

My MIL says that she has ONE complaint - she called apparently last week to check on the situation in the studios, asking if they needed to bring dishes and such (they have stayed in a 2 bedroom with us before, never in a studio) - and first off she was told she'd have to pay for the fridge. She figured she got a new CM, says thank you, hangs up, calls back, and is told that's silly, the fridges are in there no charge, and yes, there's plates and such all set.

Well, they get there, and they have 4 paper plates, 4 plastic spoons/forks/knives, and that's it! She literally told me she's WASHING OFF THE PLATES.

Is this normal? I have not stayed in a studio ever, so I wasn't sure! Sounds like you just called and got it restocked properly?

They were also raving about a "new" restaurant in the Dolphin - Fresh Meditteranean or something? And apparently it was even better as they honored the 20% member discount there. :)

We just got back from 7 days at SSR and 2 at AKL. I will write a trip report later but all I can say is WOW!! I loved it. I am so glad we bought. The best part was when we took the boats from Epcot to MGM and went past Boardwalk and Beach Club. I asked DH if he wanted to stay there sometime ( he was never sure about SSR vs. the others), he said no he loved ours.

Fresh at the Dolphin is not to be missed! It's one of the best breakfasts I've had anywhere. We had breakfast there 3 times in February. They also serve lunch, but I did not try that. As far as dishes in a studio...I've only stayed in one once. It was an anniversary trip for DH and I and we didn't eat any meals in the room, and shame on me, I barely noticed the plate situation!

My mom lives there too. From what I've seen it's like Disney World for retired folks. ;)

Yes, studios only have paper/plastic products. We were disappointed when we first stayed in a studio as well as we didn't realize this was the case. They can call and request more though instead of washing.

Thanks for taking the time to post your trip report. Glad you enjoyed your first trip home!

I would have hoped all the CMs would have taken this allergy more seriously. I would definitely sned a letter or email.

We visited Sea World earlier this month & ate lunch at the sit down restaurant witht he fish (forgot the name). We mentioned my husband's shrimp allergy to the waitress. Next thing we knew the chef came out & talked at length about what was on the menu, how he could cook/prepare certain food items, etc. - very thorough. We enjoyed a delicious lunch!! We've had a similar experience at Legal Seafood in the Burlington (MA) Mall. Both restaurants stressed that everyone - wait staff, floor managers, chefs, etc. - in the restaurant needs to be aware of an allergy.

We also saw lots of Red Sox attire - good for them!

We love Fresh Meditteranean at the Dolphin. They said they would even honor the DVC discount for us when we celebrate Mom's actual birthday there next week for our party of 8!

We visited Boston over Thanksgiving, and we really surprised at all of the spirit in the town regarding the Red Socks!

Thanks for the report. I'm glad you had such a great time.
