Wow..what a vacation....

We survived Hurricane Charley. EVERYTHING shut down at 1pm that day and DTD was not even open.

We went out for dinner on that friday night BEFORE Charley arrived and we were greeted at the POR door by security people telling us not to go anywhere.

We did...Giordano's and Pizza Uno were opened. We ate at Giordano's and got back around 7:30PM....just before the big Charley hit.

We stayed at POR for 11 nights from the 11th to 22nd. POR is our favorite...but I will say this....ITS TIME FOR THE AB SECTION TO GET RENOVATED.

I noticed that Partierre Place in the mansion side was shut down. That was it. Everything else seemed opened.

Our room #2757 had an outstanding view of the river and water wheel. That was about it. The room was looking worn and the bath area needed new tile.
Overall grade - C.

Buses were really not a factor. I would suggest that you go to the main depot to catch your bus. By the time the bus made its way around POR..it was filled.

Coming back from the Parks...the bus stopped at FQ first...no big deal.
Overall grade - A

The best lunch / dinners we had were at the following places...
50's PTC, Sci-Fi, The Plaza in MK, Whispering Canyon in WDL, ESPN club at BW and LTT in MK.

Overall grade for these... A

Honorable mention...Hoop De Do Revue. Price was a bit steep...$50 per person. Salad was outstanding...but was looking for a bit more than Ribs and Chicken and sides.
On Friday the 20th..I was the star of the show....I was the angel at the end and it was hillarious.

The following were less than what we expected...
Chef Mickeys...unless you have kids ( we dont ) I would not go there anymore..and we have made that a "first Sunday tradition" of our trip since 98. The food was horrible and the service was just as bad. The price increased to $26 pp.
However...if you have kids..that is the best place for pictures and autographs. BUT..the characters seemed in such a hurry.

Boatwrights...dinner was below average and breakfast was above average.
Overall grade - D

Bob Jackson was outstanding as usual. On the 13th everything was closed and on the 14th his replacement was entertaining. He was just not the same.

As far as the mugs go......POR has now ONLY purple mugs. no more green mugs. HOWEVER..we had one green mug with us and it was NOT an issue. In fact, my green mug had a broken handle and the CM said to get a new one for free. Which I did.

Printed on the new purple mugs is "free refills for the length or your stay" and there is now a statement on the pop machines mentioning this.

There is no way old mugs are going to be stopped from being used. Its not going to happen.

Lines in the food court were brutal in the PEAK morning hours. I say from 8:30 am to about 10 am. Lines were about 15 minutes long.

Any questions....fire away.

I am still double digit dancing...93 days and counting until our Thanksgiving trip.

Wow! I remember your posts counting down the days to your trip ..... I can't believe you're back already! (But you can't either ;) )

Welcome Home!

Oh, oh. I can hear activity at the Mug Police station now as the cars are being sent into the street...

I saw numerous people at POP using All-Star mugs! I'm going to bring my old one along, if Disney isn't going to be so hard on people like they are for everything else, too bad for them.

Also the one time we were walknig out of foodcourt towards the pool, my dad thought he saw two kids walking with mugs that STILL HAD the orange tag on them, but he wasn't sure. If you have a pair of clippers/scissors in your room, it would be child's play to take it off and have yourself a new mug. Didn't Disney use to have the mugs under the register, this would solve this problem easily!!!

I have to agree about Boatwrights. Breakfast is very good, but we did not like dinner. Funny thing is back in 2000/2001 we liked the dinners too, what happended?
Also the AB section will get renavoted, they started on POR after renovating POFQ.

We also like Boatwrights...here is what happened..
I odered the Pot Roast and DW ordered the Jambalaya.
We were expecting a nice quiet dinner...not too long but certainly not FAST.

Our dinner was given to us 3 MINUTES AFTER WE ORDERED.
It was almost like the food was pre-cooked and slopped on a plate and sent out to us.

Needless to say we were not happy. I polished off my pot roast but DW was not to happy about the "fast" sercice. Her dish was actually cold. She sent it back and we were not charged for her meal.

Breakfast was VERY good. And oddly enough, the breakfast service was SLOW. Gulped down our first cup of coffee and had to ask twice for a refill.

The Banana stuffed french toast is "out of this world."

I'm glad you had a great time ! I will be at POR in December.

When you did Hoop De Do, when did the show start, in relation to the time when you started eating ? I remember many years ago when I went to a dinner theater ( not at WDW ), the main dinner was relatively quiet, but the show started during desert and coffee. I'm not too crazy about this kind of an active funny show, in the middle of trying to eat. It's just too *busy*
for peaceful eating.

Claudia..

the MAIN Hoop show started after dinner was served..they did some skits while salad was being served. But while dinner was served..it kind of stopped but not really completely.

( if that makes any sense. )

We are planning to eat at ESPN, Whispering Canyon & Sci Fi in two weeks...I was happily surprised that you liked all three of these...any suggestions on what to order.

Thanks so much for your review. I'm glad the storm didn't ruin your trip!

Snoopymom

we ate at Sci-Fi twice..I ordered Bacon Cheeseburgers twice and DW ordered BCB and Ruben. ( Lunch both times.)

50's PTC...we ate lunch and dinner.
Lunch we had the grilled chicken sandwiches and for dinner
I had the Pot Roast ( which was better than Boatwrights) and DW ordered the meat-loaf. This was a FUN place. Try not to let the cat out of the bag about this place. The kids may be shell-shocked.

Whispering Canyon-Dinner....I had the Roasted Chicken and DW had penna pasta with something...( i think chicken.)

ESPN...ate there 3 times....I won sports trivia twice.
one night...we had chicken wings and a big order of fries..
second and third times we had macho nachos and chicken dingers...portions were big enough for two and when we were done we were stuffed. ( we also had beer to .)

POR questions,

We are going around Halloween, which AB did you stay
in, I requested 14 or 18, but I have heard like you said
that they need renovating, and wondering if I should
switch to the Mansions. Also, I've never been to POR
before, you didn't like the dinners at the food court?

Beehive...
we stayed in Bldg. #27. We are going back in November for Thanksgiving and will be requesting the Mansions.

We have no kids so the food court wasnt really for us...BUT we did eat there a few times.

they have good food...the pizza's are our favorite. They take about 8 minutes for a personal to cook and are very filling.

If you buy orange juice...try to buy it in the fultons store..its about $1.00 cheaper there than in the food court.

We're going to POR for 6 nights in October, and then switching to BW for 3 more nights. Any idea what the schedule is for the POR renovations? (Or do you know where we could find out?)

Did the fact that the one building was closed for renovations affect the atmosphere of the resort? We love how POR is so beautiful and tranquil, etc. (We always stay in the MB part.)

Did the lines at the food court seem longer than on past visits?

Thanks!

With Partierre Place being closed did not ruin the ambience of POR. Charley did.

You and everyone else will be shocked to see so many trees that are down, not only at POR but all over.

Even before Charley...it seemed like the AB side was "greener" in the past. I just dropped off our film at Osco and will get pics back on Thursday and will compare them to last year.

Last year just seemed "greener".

As far as the food court lines...I am a "mug-man" , every morning I went for coffee and paper and it just seemed like the lines were forever. Not all registers were opened. Yes..they seemed longer than in the past and there seemed to be ALOT more children. I mentioned to DW that it was almost starting to seem like the All-star resorts with all the kids. ( she looked at me as said...HELLO..YOU ARE IN DISNEY WORLD )

One thing I forgot to mention was the maid service. It was acceptable...nothing special and nothing to rave about.

At night...the food court closes at 12 midnight SHARP.
A few times after seeing Bob Jackson we wanted to order a small pizza and we were "shut out."

We were at the 5:00 show on the 20th. Was that YOU on stage that night? If it was, you were right, you WERE hilarious!

Just curious - why were you expecting more than this?

I always love the Angel in the show. SO funny. But you are giving away that you are...hmmm...pleasantly plump ...

IloveWDW2003...
I dont know...i thought it would be more than ribs and chicken.
We may have read the menu wrong before reserving. DW does not like ribs. I have to check and see what else was listed on the menu at wdwig.com....like I said..we may have read menu wrong.
