And had a great time. DH, DD, her girlfriend (both 16), and I in a studio. When we first checked in, we had a room on the third floor w/out a balcony. I called the front desk to ask if there was any possibility of getting a room with a balcony, and they were able to put us in a first-floor patio room the next morning ($25 room change fee, of course). I was apprehensive about the patio, but we loved it. We had Room 1502, right next to the lodge. DH and I would have our morning coffee outside while the girls slept, and we could hear the music at the lodge but felt very private because of all the plantings.

However, the studio didn't work very well for us. Why? Well, I knew DH is a snorer, but imagine my shock when the girls told us they couldn't sleep because we both kept them awake with our snoring  !! So now -- we have to buy more points :Pinkbounc :bounce: . We'll stay in a one-bedroom when the kids are with us, a studio if it's just the two of us.

This was our second trip home and I must say, it was the best trip we've ever had. We were there for ten days, so we'd go to a park or two one day and take the next day off. We did the recreation plan, and it paid for itself in three days. The girls loved the water mice and this is easily the best bargain at WDW. Life is good. Except now I'm back at work :( .

I'd be glad to answer any questions anyone may have.

We must have crossed paths, we left on the 5th after spending 8 nights at vwl and had a fantastic time. We were in room 1551 ground foor along the corridor from the door into sturdy branches.

Couldn't fault a thing and can't wait to get back ....

MinnieMe2....thanks for the quick report, and glad to hear you enjoyed your trip.

I had to chuckle when you talked about the snoring....my DW would never admit that she might snore and it's not worth it for me to prove it to her. ;)

And it looks like you might be joining the ranks of those (like me) that find it difficult to give up the luxury of the 1BR. I think that even when it's just DW and I, we will continue to want the full kitchen and extra room, just to spoil ourselves!

Isn't it nice to go to WDW without the "commando" touring mode? You really get to enjoy the vacation that way.

And I'm going to have to check out the recreation plan on our next stay...sounds awesome!

thanks

Not to tempt you Minnie me, but some use years at VWL still have points available--we are getting another 75 for February...just something to think about!;)

Glad that you trip was great! Thanks for the report and a laugh as the kids were the first to have the nerve to tell me I snore.
Could you update me on the deal for the water mice.I can't remember the details or prices and we leave in 3 days. It was one price for your stay if I remember correctly, but not sure where it is available either. Any info would be appreciated.

Niagara....I know that VWL has a deal....I think it's $199 for a family of four?.....for lenth-of-stay water vehicle and bicycle usage. The place to go is down by the boat dock near the beach (not the boat dock that takes you to MK).

No balcony?

I thought all of the rooms had balconies or patios! Oh, well guess I'll be making yet another request! I did request a higher level with a view of the lagoon, but a balcony is a must for us!

Thanks for the report! We'll be making our first trip home, staying in a studio from 1/21-1/31/03.

I can't wait!:p

Niagra, the Family Recreation Plan is $200, paid at the little shack where you rent bikes, etc. For the $$, this is a fabulous deal: unlimited use of pontoon boats, water mice, and bikes for up to five people in the same party (you don't all have to have the same name) for the length of your stay. We had four of us, DH, DD and her girlfriend, both 16, and me. The only restrictions, as far as kids, are the same as renting the mice: 12 years of age and five feet tall. The girls were particularly enthralled by the water mice and were out there almost daily. I have to admit, the mice were a lot of fun, DH and I got out on them as often as possible. We liked to bike over to the campground in the morning, say hello to the horses and goats at the petting zoo, then go back to the Villas, take a swim, then go out on the mice. We definitely saved a lot of $$$ using the Family Plan, and it was a great way to spend some down time. This plan is also available, I believe, at the other hotels in the lagoon. But you can't dock anywhere except the dock you launch from.

Enjoy!!!
