Well I just got home from a long weekend at Disney (Thursday to Sunday). This is my second time staying "on-site"...first time was Port Orleans and after that I was sold on the benefits to staying at a Disney Resort. This time we stayed at POP.

This was my first time at POP and I am VERY HAPPY with my choice. We arrived on Thursday at 7pm. My husband chuckled when we pulled into the check-in parking area...he wasnt expecting all of the large icons and bright colors. The kids loved it. He even joked that it felt like he was at Dolphin Mall (a large bright colored outlet type mall in Miami - where we live). So we check-in...it was speedy-- not a lot of people. We were taken care of by a nice CM who was on an exchange program from Disney Tokyo (I think it was Tokyo or was it Hong Kong - not sure). Her accent was a little hard to understand but I got the jist of things when she explained the location of the room and check out time, etc.

I had reserved a "preferred room" in the 60's building. I was happy with the location. We were in room 5410 (4th floor) overlooking the lake to the right and the kiddie pool at the Hippy Dippy Pool. The room, though a tad small, was suitable. We did not hear our neighbors or the music and hoopla outside from the people at the pool until midnight. The bathroom small but who spend alot of time on the toilet...so you have to skoot all the way next to the bathtub to close the door, but I was coll with that. The fun part was parking in the parking lot and using the handcart to take all of our luggage to the room...that was the longest walk of our lives (mainly because my husband did not pack the stuff well and stuff kept on falling off of it).

I love the refillable mugs. I think psychologically I drank ALOT so that I could get my money's worth. I think I had 6 cups of coffee and 10 cokes a day...took full advantage of "refilling" the mug. Our experience with the food court was good. We only ate there once for dinner because the other times we either ate at the parks or at Dowtown Disney. The food was average but I wasnt expecting Emeril to cook the meals. The mac & Cheese is awesome by the way.

Transportation....on Friday when we went to Epcot I think we waited 10 minutes and coming back from Epcot about 15 minutes. Saturday to the Magic Kingdom we waited another 15 minutes and but when we boarded we realized it was standing room only and we were almost outside the front door. So we opted to wait for the next bus...which came about 5 minutes after. We left back to the hotel before the 3pm parade so the bus was still empty and we only waited about 10 minutes. Overall - very happy with the bus system.

We will definately stay at POP again when we return in the fall. I was a little skeptical on the hotel because of some of the posts I read...but once I experienced for myself...I was happy.

Hope everyone planning to stay at POP have a pleasant time like us.

Rebecca

Thanks for posting. I was concerned initially about booking there in July but now I am excited to try it. Glad you had a great time.

Glad you enjoyed your stay at Pop. We are arriving there Saturday and I have been doubting my choice after reading some of the posts about noise, bad parking etc.
It sounds as if you had a magical time. :earsgirl:

Nika - Parking could have been better but I guess with a resort of that size, there is limited space where you can park. Not sure who all is going with you but after you check in have someone in your party get a luggage cart and meet you at the car. We did not know that we could borrow a luggage cart and were just going to take a few trips to and from the car. When we walked over to the luggage cart office...we had gotten the last cart (luckily). It would just save you some added time instead of parking, everyone walking to the cart office, walking back to the car, packing the luggage cart (which was a little hard to manuever, then make the trek to your room.

If you do not need to move your car...DONT. Try to take the transportation as much as possible.

We left our car there the whole time and never moved it. Just had to go there on Friday morning to grab the kids' raincoats before we jumped on the bus.

Have a wonderful trip!!!

I also agree POP is lots of fun and great place to stay onsite. We went the last week of April. We were very happy with our choice also. I was concerned before we left home too. It was our (4 yr) DS's first trip. He loved it too even tho he does not remember the last decades ;) The only thing my DH pointed out was the frozen coke machine was broken.

Have Fun for all future visitors to POP :flower:

pop is a great resort, and thats really funny about pop lookin like the dolphin mall, i always thought it had a dolphin resort look to it, ironically :p

We've stayed at Pop Century twice now, and we'll be back in a few weeks!! Can't wait!!! We've always had a great stay!!! Last July 4th, we did a split stay with Pop & WL. We were in the 60s bldg, overlooking the kiddy pool. We never had a problem with noise!! The room was fine too! In Dec, we stayed in the 50s Bldg - again a great time!!! No noise problems and our room was great! Both trips bus service was wonderful!

We're doing a split stay again (with POFQ)!! Can't wait!!!

 :rotfl: It's funny you should mention the luggage cart because just today my husband said, "I hope the room isn't too far from the car, I'll feel like a pack mule". We drive and we always seem to take everything we own with us.

We are leaving WDW and going to the beach for a week so we will be even more loaded down. Is it not possible just to stop the car near your room and unload? I could stay in the car and be ready to move it if I was blocking someone. I guess we will play it by ear and if we can't get close enough we will get a luggage cart. I don't want my husband to get a hernia on the first night!!! :rotfl:

Just a few notes on luggage:

Pop Century is no different than any other Disney resort in its layout. Some rooms will be closer to the parking lot, and other rooms will be further away from the parking lot. Even the Grand Floridian's parking is far away.

Pop Century has two different options for luggage. The first is the handcart that you can borrow. This option is good for those who want thier luggage NOW, and want to do it themselves.

The other option is to take advantage of the Luggage Assistance service. Just bring your car up to the Porte Cochere, and the Luggage Assistance folks will unload your stuff onto one of the larger birdcages. Bags will be stored in the luggage room until your room is ready. They do have a fridge for perishables as well as a locked cage for valuables. Once your room is clean and available, your luggage will be automatically delivered to the room within an hour of it becoming available. You do not need to be in the room for it to be delivered, so you can head off to the parks and have fun.

Luggage Assistance is different from Bell Services in that it is not a tipped position. Tips are neither expected nor neccessary. It is also not an on-demand service. They try to get luggage up as quickly as possible, but there are times when there could be a small wait.

I love reading what you have to say about staying at the POP as I will be there for the first time in 40 days. We have stayed in the Hotel Royal Plaza and The Swan. (down for business. We didn't get to do any of the parks on this trip.) Otherwise, we have always stayed offsite in condos or motels. We are very excited about this trip and are anxiously counting down the days. We need a vacation and a break from everything that has been going on for the last 9 months. As far as carrying the luggage a long distance, that doesn't bother me. I try to stay fit as much as I can so I would use it as a chance to get some exercise. Knowing me, I will probably park as far away as I can just to have to wak more. But I am a little weird like that.

Thanks for the report !!! :)
We're going there next Sunday for a week !!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes
You got me more excited than I already was if thats possible !!! :mickeybar

Thanks for the info.! I have a few questions:

About how long did it take to get to AK from Pop?

And does anyone know how the luggage works with ME? Is it delivered to your room or just your hotel?

Glad to hear you enjoyed your Pop stay!:Pinkbounc

I feel like I ask this question every time someone posts a review of POP. But, How were the beds??? That is the only thing keeping us from trying it. DH and I are big people, so we know we each sleep in one of the double beds, that's okay, but so many report that the beds are really hard. Did you find that to be so? Sleeping is very important to me, I need lots of sleep, so if the beds are too hard and I can't sleep I'll be miserable the entire trip.

Every bed will be different, because each bed has experienced a different history. If I'm not mistaken, pretty much all of the standard beds on property are the same model of bed... but like I said, they all will be different, because you never know how many kids have jumped on it.

DH and requested kingbeds and were accommodated on both our stays -- one a handicapped accessible bath, and the other a standard bath. Perhaps because of the king bed request, we were as far as possible from Everything Pop in the 80's building. The king beds were fine to sleep on. We LOVE Pop Century.

DH & I are staying at POP for the first time in October. When I made my ressie, I requested 50's or 70's bldg. We'd be fine with dbl beds, but would LOVE a king. Our last trip (ASMo) we had a king room but with a handicapped bathroom (which I felt guilty about) and didn't care for it. The whole bathroom got soaked when you showered! Anywho, in reading this post, I saw King Beds with standard bathrooms listed. How many of these rooms are there and what bldgs are they located in? Is there an extra charge for these rooms?

TIA!

We have stayed at POP before and loved it. We were in the 70's facing the Lake and the walk from the car was LONG. I am going back next week and I have a preferred room because for part of the trip it will just be DD and myself and I didn't want to lug all of the stuff a long way. So being closer to the Main building will help alot. And I think I will take advantage of the luggage cart.

Take a look at the first page of the Pop Century Far Out FAQ thread. It will list the amount of rooms in each category.

I definately agree with Tyler about using the luggage service. We always do, no matter where we stay. We have never had a problem, and it is nice at the end of your stay. Get everything together, call and they will pick everything up and hold it for you until you are ready to leave.

We normally tip $1 dollar per bag. They don't expect it, but they are doing us a service and we appreciate it.

We stayed at Pop 3 times in three months last year. It is very nice.
