Just back...Fast Pass Info

Sure, we all know that. Things come up and throw the plans off course. Happens all the time. But I am wondering if the CMs misunderstood you. They might have thought you meant can you use a Fast Pass (in general) the next day on those rides - because all you have to do is go to the machine and get a new one. I imagine that few people would be thinking of using one from the day before because there is no point in it since they are so easy to get. I guess I am a little confused as to why those specific day-old FP's had to be used instead of getting new ones from the FP machine.

Doesn't make much sense to me either.

If you can't use your fastpass the day it was issued...you need to get a new one the next time you're there. It's not difficult.

And if you can't use it....it's always good karma to give your unused pass to someone else to use that day (the day issued, of course.)

I'm all for fast pass karma. I always give away the ones I'm not going to use.

More power to the people who get away with using them on later days. They're not supposed to let you on but many cast members don't care. They really just want to make sure the time is correct.

The Space Mountain staff usually gives them a pretty good reading before letting anybody past so that would probably be the hardest place to cheat.

Indiana Jones and Splash Mountain let you by with a quick glance so those would of course be the easiest attractions to cheat on.

In past trips to DL, we were unable to use some of our FP's for Space Mtn., GRR and Screamin' (every time we went to use our FP, the ride was not operating--kind of frustrating!). A CM told us that we could use the FP the next day-no problem. I was happy to hear that they were willing to honor the FP the next day.

This trip, we had FP's for ToT and Screamin and my son wasn't feeling well, so we went back to the hotel. We asked a CM if we would be able to use them the next day and were told, "no problem". When we tried to use them the next day, we were questioned by the CM's when we used them.

We collect our FP's with every intention of using them the same day, but sometimes this doesn't work out. ;)

So you get a new one the next day, you don't use the one from the day before. This is a touchy subject for me, I'm OK using them past the window but not the next day. I've never tried to use them, not even when the ride was down multiple times trying to use them from the previous day. I've just always grabbed a new pass.

Yeah...nothing says good old fashioned disney fun like trying to cheat the system.....haha.

You know, JaneJetson, that is a good idea - giving them away if not used. I usually do not end up with any unused FP's myself. In fact, we didn't get more than a couple of them last year and they were used. I think we usually have luck with the stand-by line, or the time window to use the FP is too far away so we skip getting them, but I know other people stock up on FP's! In the event I ever do have unused ones, I will gladly pass them on to someone else. Pay it forward and all that!

The only reasons I can conceive of why someone would want to attempt to use day-old passes rather than getting new ones is maybe because that specific window of time to ride was appealing and no longer available, OR because maybe the FP's on the second day are all gone from the machines, OR because it would enable them to get an all new set of FPs for completely different rides on that second day without time window conflicts preventing them from being able to if they were to get FP's for the rides they missed the day before (in other words, as a PP said, "cheating"!). I think anyone is lucky to have that accommodation made for them once or twice, but I wouldn't try to push it beyond that. I wouldn't even try it in the first place, but good for GoofyForDisney, who had great luck with day-old FP's for a brief time!

We've been given fastpasses from random people a lot. We've also given ours away before. Sometimes people are confused if you try to give them passes. Especially out of town people. It's kind of funny to see people's reactions. I think the people at WDW seemed even more confused.

In the recent past, I remember seeing a LOT of fastpass sales on Ebay. The auctions said that they could be used anytime, even though you could clearly see the date that the seller got them. (they were the tickets that come out when you put in your park hopper/AP)

There are not too may of them anymore (on Ebay, that is). Perhaps they are cracking down now? :confused3

There are a lot of Dream fastpasses up for auction, I'm surprised at how much they are going for! Hmmmm.......I have a some intact Dream passes from our last trip.......;)

Just kiddin' I would never sell them. The memories they bring back are worth much more to me! :)

I think a lot of people never expect total strangers to do anything nice without an agenda, so it is probably startling to them. Los Angeles is kind of jaded like that, too, sadly. Of course, it is not like you are handing them one hundred dollar bills, but you are giving them something that will benefit them if they know what to do with it!

We saw several guests on our trip last week, that had 3/4 inch thick stacks of Fast Passes. I was very curious, and wanted to ask them what the story was..... Both families were not speaking English, so I did not approach them though. (we saw them on seperate occassions leafing thru their stacks to find one ride or another). I was thinking they got them on Ebay somehow.

We give our extras away all the time. It's so much fun to try to find someone to give them to. We don't normally have them but on that rare occasion it's always good to share. :)

Well, the reason why we didn't get new FP's the next day is because we were told by a CM that we wouldn't need to get a new FP and we would be allowed to use them the next day. To be honest, I didn't think that this was "cheating".

We usually give our unused FP's to another family if we are unable to use them the same day. In this case, our son was not feeling well and we thought it was nice that the CM that we spoke to understood our situation.

I guess I thought that sharing my experience would have helped someone else here on the boards. Guess I was wrong.

Well, at least you had some good luck temporarily with it. Another person on this board got the benefits of a CM's mistake when she booked a hotel reservation and the CM accidentally gave her the Cast Member discount rate instead of the one she was supposed to get. So, things do happen to our advantage every now and then (though nothing so fortunate for me as to get Cast Member rates for a hotel, darn it!).

I just think some of us on here were/are perplexed because we would not think of using the old FP the next day and wouldn't have even had that conversation with the CM in the first place because it is so easy to get a new one. There would be no need for the old one. I wouldn't even take a chance on what the CM said about being able to use it as being accurate (I still think they were confused and meant that you could use a Fast Pass in general the next day, not that old one), because I wouldn't count on the next CM to back-up what the previous one said. I would just get a new one. It can't hurt. No harm done. And especially after they gave you a look or an attitude about it, then I would have just marched myself right over to the FP machine and gotten a new one. But oh well, no big deal. They are just Fast Passes, not bars of gold!

In any case, now you know not to count on that luck with old FP's and you know what to do in the future. And you see now that using old FP's a day late is not a common practice among us DISboarders! The most important thing is that you and your family had a good time at DLR and were able to get on the rides you wanted to ride!

Guess I was one of the lucky ones. I was actually told by CMs to save my FPs that I didnt use for another day/trip.

Does anyone know if any of the FP machines are still "disconnected"?

I never knew which machines were disconnected from the regular FP system, though I have heard of this. Do they alternate? Like certain ones are disconnected one month and different ones another month? We just never seem to find ourselves in the position of needing to use them that often because the stand-by lines are fast. But it would be nice to know where the disconnected ones are just in case!

And from what I have heard on this board, it sounds like the CM's have been silently spreading the word that the FP system is likely on its way out the door over the next couple of years. They are slowly going to wean people off of it, I guess? It is not turning out to be as effective and efficient as originally conceived.

Roger Rabbit and Grizzly are not connected and each park is disconnected from the other. I really hope they don't get rid of FP's, they are so beneficial once you know how to use them!

Oh, so you can have unused FP's for DL and then bop over to DCA and get more FP's without a time window conflict? Cool. Roger Rabbit is one of those rides where the stand-by line has gotten much faster now (unlike when it first opened) and we usually just walk right on it. Good timing, I guess. But don't the disconnected machines alternate? It seems like I recall reading somewhere that they change here and there.

I would guess that a lot of people still don't use Fast Passes at all because they don't really want to take the time to figure out how to maximize the FP system and know when to use them and when not to. So in that regard, I guess they don't really know how to use them to their benefit. Or they think they should automatically get a FP just because they can, when sometimes it makes LESS sense to get a FP than to just get in the stand-by line.

Thanks!! I thought I heard at one point that Thunder Mtn. was disconnected, is re-connected now??

I think when FP first came online the disconnected machines did occasionally change, so it's possible that Big Thunder could have been one of them.

But it's been ages since I've heard of anything other than Roger Rabbit at DL and Grizzly at DCA being disconnected.

As for allowing expired FP's from previous days or years (yep, heard of someone trying that too) I don't think it should have ever been allowed, and if it was, I'm all for the crackdown.

The system just isn't set up for that.
Sheesh, it's bad enough to be waiting in the stand by line for Space or Splash late in the day when it's been super busy.
As much as I like being able to use my expired FP's hours past the assigned time... when I'm standing in line not moving at all; while group after group of FP folks buzz by... I have to wonder how much shorter my wait time would have been if FP time windows were a bit more strictly enforced.
:confused3

The minute DCL starts allowing a little flexibility some people will figure out a way to scam the system.
:sad2:

The scam comment is not directed at you OP... it's more about folks who somehow manage to have stacks of FP's as PatMcDuck reported.
:confused3
