Just Back: CP dinner package

We did the CP dinner package twice last week. As usual, Le Cellier was wonderful. The meal was great, and the Le Cellier policy on the package is the best. Our party consisted of 2 adults, 1 child, a 2 yo and a baby. The DW and I both had an appetizer, entree, dessert, soda/iced tea, and coffee. Our 5 yo DD had soup, an entree off the kids menu, dessert and a drink, and our 2 yo also had a milk. We didn't pay for a thing in addition to the package. At several other places we have gone we would have had to pay for the soup, a milk, and the coffee.

As for other locations.......................

I'm adding Alfredo's (Italy) to my list of "not great for the package" places. When we went there the waiter told us the adults could have soup or salad (no appetizer), entree, dessert, and drink. Turns out my DW wanted the caesar salad anyway, but I wanted the fettucchini alfredo for the appetizer. The waiter said he could do that but you could tell he didn't really want to. As for our DD, she wasn't allowed any appetizer, got spaghetti and MB's, and could only have a scoop of ice cream for dessert. So for her $10.99 she only got about $9.00 worth of food. Only getting a soup or salad for an adult you are likely to have spent more on the package than you would have paid without it. It is nice to have the reserved seating for the show, but if it means I lose money on the meal I'll pass. Yes, Italy is right next to Mexico (where they only gave us flan for dessert last year) in the "won't do the package there again" camp.

Which brings me to stand-by lines for the show. One day we were in Epcot we say people lining up at 3:15 for the 5:00 show. That is part of the reason we picked up the package at Italy for later in the week........we didn't want to have to wait that long. Turns out that people who showed up for stand-by minutes before the show were sitting two rows behind us. Standby isn't guaranteed a seat, but at least for the shows we saw last week everyone got one.

We just returned last night and did the package Friday night in Mexico. The food was great and the CP was beautiful but I felt we got cheated a little by doing the package. When we sat down, the young man, after finding out that we were on the CP package, took our order for our drink, appetizer, entree, and desert at the same time!!! Normaly I would have objected but was afraid he knew something I did not about timing and I did not want to miss the show. DS was not allowed an appetizer( he would not have eaten one anyway) but a child at the table next to us was. We were told they only had flan, icecream or cinimmion sticks for desert now. I know that they used to have other things. I should have asked for a menu. We were out of there in less than an hour. The package line was as long as the standby but everyone got in. I loved the whole evening but might try it without the package next time.

I't would be nice if they did this for all of the shows.

I hope I get to visit WDW during Christmas Break next year. The CP is at the top of my must do list. I'd love to do this on Christmas Eve.

We did the CP package on Thursday, 12/11. Went to the 6:45 show and had a PS at Japan Teppanyaki for 4:30 p.m. Got seated about 4:50 p.m.

We could choose from anything on the menu except entrees that included beef tenderloin and/or lobster. A note to that effect (for Candlelight Package guests) was actually printed on the menu. A non-alcoholic drink was included - we had hot green tea. I had New York strip sirloin steak, shrimp for an appetizer and chestnut cake for dessert. The meal included a bowl of steamed rice (very good) and grilled/stir-fried vegetables. My companions had combos - one had steak and shrimp and the other, steak and chicken. Both were impressed. Food overall was very, very good! Service was good, too.

Got in the line for the show at approx 5:50 - dinner package line was already almost to Japan. A CM was checking to make sure all had badges and did send one man to the other line. Seating began about 6. We just missed seeing the tree light up (across the lake).

Show was wonderful as usual - we saw David Ogden Stiers. He was good, but not as good as James Avery. So far he was the best we have seen!

We had good seats about 1/3 of the way back in the middle. FWIW, I think there are no bad seats. We get the package to be sure of getting a seat in the show we prefer and we do a nice sit down dinner at least once anyway.

Just wanted to add Marrakesh as a great restaurant to choose for the CP package. There were four of us, so we each chose a different entree, appetizer, and desert, and shared around. We all loved the food! The only thing we couldn't choose from on the menu was the meals that are served family style (this was a new menu option since the last time I had been there.) Otherwise, we could choose any appetizer, entree or desert, on the menu. We all had sodas and they were included. They serving staff were helpful, cheerful, and very kind. We in no way felt rushed, or like we were being treated differently because we had a CP package. And it was a nice distance from the theater!

We did the CP package on Sunday 12/7. I forgot to pickup our badges at the hotel, so I got them at the tent in front of the American Adventure store. We did the 6:45 show with 8:00 LeCellier. Ericka Dunlap (Miss America) was pretty good. Even though we were in line early, we could not get seats in the front section. We were in the second section, center. At LeCellier, we had salad as appetizers, strip steaks for entree. I had the cheesecake for dessert and my mom had the club cake. We had them pack the leftover steak and the desserts and we took it back to our room at BWV. We enjoyed the remaining steak the next afternoon (it was still good the next day even using the microwave).

We did standby on Thursday 12/11. We got in the standby line about 25 minutes prior and got seats in the back center. David Ogden Stiers was very good!
