It occurs to me after reading all this bug stuff that this is one more reason to stay at a Deluxe over a Moderate or Value -- it's harder for the crawlies to get in when the hotel has interior hallways! These could be animatronic roaches sent to encourage us all to upgrade! :) [/B]

Actually that isn't true. I booked AKL with the thought that because there were interior corridors that bugs wouldn't get in. Surprise, surprise when I arrived one evening to a large dragonfly buzzing around my room. Like I said before the chairs on our balcony had been rearranged so the maid had been out there. One must have flown in when he/she was out there.

Imagine one of those things coming at ya . . .
It happened to me!! One of those suckers came at me when I was 8 months pregnant - we had just moved to Louisiana in the heat of July - I was sitting in my recliner after a day of moving in. I looked at the wall, and there was this King Sized Roach walking down it, then across the floor, toward me. First time I ever saw one...got up slowly from my recliner and backed off, then the SOB started flying. Betcha ya never saw an 8 month pregnant woman do a back-flip!

Well......that might be one of those pictures we are safer not imagining....:p - Just teasing!

Seriously - don't be offended by any ones opinions. To be honest I probably would have taken it to the front desk also. I would have had no idea what it was!!!! Around here, besides the cow-size mosquitoes we have friends such as lady beetles, spiders, woodticks (watch out for Lymes disease!), dragonflies, june bugs etc. So I'm pretty used to all of them - but I don't know what I would have done with your bug! It sure wouldn't have been what I would have expected in my room.

I saw one BIG cockroach "in" our room at CBR on the last day of our stay (DEC 2000).
It was roaming around the door frame of the front door so I opened it up and a couple minutes later it left....by the way we were on the 2nd floor...
I'm glad we were warned ahead of time on these boards about the ground level rooms...as it might have been worse.

To the previous comments made with the question "why did you take the bug to the desk, were you looking for some compensation?", and the remark "if everyone got compensated for having a bug in their room, we would all be paying ridiculous rates"..... You people are the ignorant ones- Read the original posts. I stated that I was NOT looking for anything, I just wanted them to be aware that there was a bug, a big one, in my room, and since I don't deal with cockroaches on a daily basis, I thought they would like to be notified, in the odd chance that maybe they spray after so many people find one, or whatever. That is the typical response of narrow minded people, that everyone is looking for a freebie.

Whatever, the whole issue wasn't so much about the roach, as it was about the attitude of the CM.

My kids didn't lose any sleep over it. Yeh it startled them, like I said, they aren't something we see at home. Only hear about them in movies. My kids are outside kids, and they have had their bug farms, they are not isolated from the world. Please.

No one has to agree with me, that is why I like the boards. But the sarcastic comments on hear are just as irritating as the ones the CM dished out.

Thanks to all the friendly comments, whether they agreed with the CM or not, just for being friendly.

OK This is a little different but along the same lines---sort of. Did anyone see the Roach-Bot on 60 minutes last night? They have built a robot that is similar to the way a roach is-- in the way it walks. They have studied all different kinds of animals and insects and saw that the roach could move very fast and so they built a robot like it to move very fast. They were also looking a some lizard thing-- a gecko, I believe, that could walk up glass. They are going to try to build one like him too. They say that these may help them later like in going to Mars or something. Won't get stuck like the last one there did.

were told "well you know, it is the animal kingdom". I informed them that it wasn't the "bug kingdom"
LOL!!!!:jester: :jester:
It is not that big of a deal in the south and is not a hugely negative reflection on the quality of the accomodations and #2 Sometimes humor is the best way to handle an uncomfortable situation.
I have to agree entirely! I don't think the CM was being rude...just trying to lighten things up a bit!

Also, living in Florida, we may just be used to seeing them from time to time. They are almost as common as mosquitos. I think that the only way to truly keep them out of your house is to have a cat - and that only keeps you from SEEING them in your house.

To those of you who received an extra dose of Disney Magic:

How much did you have to tip Mousekeeping to get it? I know that many people hope for towel animals, towel insects, etc. - but to actually get a living visitor; how wonderful!

My DW and I will be at the Polynesian this fall for our first empty-nester trip and I'm trying to make it special. Do you think that I could contact Concierge Services ahead of time to guarantee some Living Disney Magic?

 Erick :jester:

Don't joke or you may get a mouse and I'm not referring to Mickey. I saw a dead mouse in the parking lot at Dixie Landings one time.

This OP and entire thread just cracks me up.

It's Florida.
It's a big bug.
It's no surprise.
It's no reflection on the cleanliness or cost of the hotel.

Get over it.

Jeesh.

Ok, I think 8 pages of either "I would have screamed too" or "It's Florida, that's life" is quite enough. This thread really isn't serving a useful purpose on Resorts anymore - 'tis locked!
