We were pleasantly surprised with the food at WDW, after only having experienced Six Flags type parks up until now. What a difference!
The cast:
Me, 39, trip planner deluxe
DH, 42, new to Disney-mania, but coming along nicely
DD, 15, reverts to the 5 year-old state at the mention of Disney
DS, 12, ditto above
Arrival day: 'Ohana for dinner
We all stroll in, looking like the ultimate tourists in our super-kitchy Aloha shirts! We start off with drinks. I had a Sunburn something or other that was delicious. DH had a Bloody Mary. He said it was great and I'll just take his word for it. DS had a virgin strawberry colada and DD had a virgin fruity something. Wish I could remember the names but we were so tired after our long drive that my brain was only half engaged.
Our cousin brought out the starters very quickly. Shrimp wontons, Coriander chicken wings, stir-fried veges, fried rice, and salad with honey-lime dressing.
DH, DD, and I enjoyed all of them. We especially enjoyed the shrimp wontons. DS refused to waste his meat-loving appetite on this stuff!
On to the skewers!
First came the turkey and steak. The turkey was very moist and flavorful. The steak was tasty and cooked to just the right doneness (medium) but was a little tough.
Next, the pork and shrimp. We all agreed that we didn't really care for the pork. Not much flavor and slightly dry. The shrimp, on the other hand, was wonderful! Kind of spicy, but delicious. The only negative thing I have to say is that it was a little hard to peel and pretty messy. I'm sure we would have had more if it were easier to eat. Maybe that's what they are counting on? As it was, DS and I both had ten or twelve shrimp each! DS, DH, and I all agreed the shrimp was our favorite. DD liked the starters and the turkey best.
Last, but not least, was the pineapple with caramel. The perfect dessert after a meal like this! Very light and just sweet enough.
All things considered, I would give this meal *** out of *****. Good but not great.
It was fun to do once, but I'm not sure I'd do it again with so many other WDW restaurants to try.
More to come...
