Just back and loved the PPH

We just got back from 3 days at the DLR and PPH. I LOVED the hotel and will probably stay there from now on. Last two trips were at the DLH and the GCH. The room was basic, but bigger than the GCH, no fancy frills like the DLH but the beds/pillows were VERY comfortable and triple sheeted. We were on the 14th floor and watched WOC every night from our room. My kids loved the pool and the slide. We rode the glass elevator every time we went up or down. The walk to the monorail or to DCA thru the GCH was cake. We rode GRR two times in a row and walked back to the hotel to change. The Surf's Up character buffet was awesome. Quality character time and great food (wild-caught salmon from Alaska.)

Thanks to all who suggested a stay there. I will be back!!

I PPH PPH! ;) We stayed there last time we went because the DVC side of GCH was all booked. I liked it a lot! Staying there again next week!

My DH and I really enjoyed it as well (We stayed last October)! He is still talking about that bed. We'll be staying again in a month. I had considered staying at the DLH, but the view is so amazing!! (We were on the 15th floor)

I've stayed there twice and really enjoyed it as well. Great choice for smaller children pool wise.

The Dobies have stayed at all DLR resorts and the PPH is our onsite hotel of choice from now on! We love the quick walk and the big rooms. We miss the GCH pool and balcony, but since it is about half the GCH price, we don't miss it that much!

We were there last week and really liked it. We were on the 13th floor and also had a great view of WOC. Completely agree about the beds, they are so comfortable.

Coaches24 & Amyamya- Was the PPH offering pool-hopping privileges to the DLH pool during your stay?

Do they have a toddler pool? Or is it just for bigger kids?

They do have a toddler pool, located in front of the slide. It's nice. We were able to sit at a table right next to the toddler pool and watch our kids swim and splash away. :thumbsup2

I think the only time they offer that is if the pool is closed during your stay. Not sure as we didn't try and they didn't mention it that I remember.

But I've read from other posters that pool hopping is not allowed normally.

My experience from last year was...

A castmember told me that I should go pool hopping to the DLH (we were just chatting and it was unsolicated advice). Well, we tried it and found they were checking for hotel keys. I flashed mine, but they didn't really look at it and let us in. I would have felt very embarassed if they had turned us away since I was only following the advice of PPH lifeguard.

My kids are 5 and 7 so there was no need to pool hop, the pool setup at the PPH was ideal. The lifeguards were great and I sat on a padded chaise reading my Nook in front of the kiddie pool and watched my son go down the waterslide about 50 times in a row. Older kids might like the slides at DLH better, but for us it was perfect.

Count us in as a family that like PPH better than DLH. On the surface I would think we would prefer DLH - but we really liked PPH better.

Now if money were no object - it would be GCH all the way. But when you are at PPH you can walk through the lobby and hang out by the GCH's fireplace at the end of the evening.

I have stayed at all three DLR hotels, and I also really like Paradise Pier. I think there are two important points to liking this hotel:

  • Pay for an upgraded view. The World of Color view over Paradise Pier is so worth it! Even if you don't watch WOC from your room, the theme park view is wonderful. It feels like a vacation! My girls spent a good deal of their downtime relaxing in the room looking out the window--watching all the people in CA.
  • Take the shortcut thru the Grand Californian. People that I have heard complainig about the walk from this hotel don't know about the shortcut. It is actually a
shorter walk than the Disneyland Hotel if you take the shortcut.

Agree on all accounts. The view of the park in those rooms is fantastic, and the walk through GCH is a great shortcut and cuts a good deal of time off the walk. Definitely closer than the DLH if you take that route.

Great to hear so many good reviews. I've looked into renting DVC points for our trip next June, but wasn't sure about a back-up plan. Thinking this thread has helped me decide! Really want to stay on site! My kids will be 5 and 7 when we're there, so glad to hear your kids enjoyed it and managed the walk.

We stayed at PPH in February & at check in were told we were welcome to check out the pool at DLH. Yes, the pool at the PPH was open (and we used it to), they were just being nice and letting folks at PPH pool hop (I have no idea if they were offering it also to folks at the Grand, and they didn't extend the invitation to the Grand either, just . It WAS Feb- and so it was the off season, I was wondering it they were just doing that in the slow times (which I would presume) and no, it wasn't an errant CM - I heard the same thing being said to the folks checking in next to us too. I doubt it would be an "official policy" change, as in the summer time it would probably overwhelm the DLH pool, but I was just curious about more recent experiences.

We brought a stroller and really didn't use it at all. The latest my kids could make it was 10 pm, and even though they were tired, they still got back to the hotel from the monorail on their own steam. After the first day, we only used the monorail to exit or enter the park, or used the GCH shortcut to DCA. If you are walking from the main gates it might be a different story.

Pool hopping is only allowed when the pool is down at the hotel where you are staying.

Was it February by any chance? The PPH pool was down the beginning of last year.

The pool at PPH was closed last January through March for repair. Perhaps there were a few days they let people use it :confused3 but it was well documented as being down at that time. There were many discussions about it here at the time, and since. You can also Google it as well.
