We just returned Sunday from our recent trip to WDW. Stayed at POP. Had several issues at the resort that caused me lots of stress and problems and then Monday morning about 4 am I got a text message from my credit card saying a phone/online charge had been made to my credit card to a vendor I had never heard of and sure did not make. I immediately called the CC company but someone at WDW must have gotten ahold of my number as I did not use that card anywhere but on property..... So please remember to keep a watch on your charges as it can happen anywhere....

That is why we charge almost eveything to the room so we can check all charges before we leave.

This is an absolute must. I had a brand new Disney Visa. Never used before, ever. Used it as my Room Charge thru my Band last year at SSR. I checked in and within hours, Visa notified me someone had charged fancy frilly dresses off of a Website I have never heard of. Like Bridesmaid dress apparel. Visa immediately took that charge off, but I have been very cautious since and only use that card with Disney purchases.

I agree, charge to the room, check your bill and go online and check your account.

It shook my DH and I up.

Same thing happened to me in October! Only used my debit card 3 times on property on arrival day! Next thing I know someone is draining my bank account in Michigan. For all future trips I will only make charges to the room and then pay off the bill with gift cards or my non-checking account credit card. I will NEVER take any card tied to my checking account to Disney again!

Things usually don't work like that with CC theft. It's usually NOT an immediate thing. Too easy to get caught like that.

My brother has a CC that had its info stolen before he even got it. By the time they got it and opened the envelope, someone had made a charge to it. (they charged a charitable donation, likely as a way to see if it was good)

So just because you were at Disney using the card doesn't automatically mean it was stolen from someone there.

I'm not saying that it never happens; there was some big behind the scenes investigation that revealed someone who actually had been skimming cards there a few years back. But especially with that in the background, it's even less likely.

I have used it other times but not in over a week prior to the trip. All charges at the resort were correct and the strange charge was made on Monday am about 4 oclock my time and we checked out on Saturday morning. I normally charge to the room and don't carry the card but they messed up my account so bad at the front desk that I was afraid to charge anything else back to the room. I purposely had a credit on my room account at check in to purchase meals for the week, then when I bought the party tickets they charged me three times for them. Twice to the room and then once straight to my credit card. When they got that corrected they credited everything back to my credit card so I did not have my balance on the room I had planned for meals and it took until Thursday for the credit to show on my credit card account so I could be sure that it was correct so I was hesitant to charge to the room in fears that it would cause even more problems..... I did use my computer to check on the credit back to my account so guess anyone could have hijacked my computer and got access to the cc..What ever it was taken care of quickly and no other problems have come up....

That's why even banks tell you to not use a debit card like a credit card. It's not secure enough.

I agree with the previous posters who mentioned that it's unlikely that your credit/debit card would have been compromised while in Disney. These are usually cyber-crimes and are usually done from outside the US.

We don't use our debit card at Disney. We load up on Disney gift cards and use those and cash during our trip.

I may just get a visa gift card to use there, it wouldn't hurt anything, I can use it anywhere if we didn't use all of it at WDW.

I have had multiple breaches on my cc, and none of them were in person- it was done in cyberspace from some other country on an unused card....so it could really be just coincidence.... either way it pays to check your cc regularly to keep an eye on things.
