We spent our 1st week at AKL, the resort was amazing, There is an overall experience one is transported into when you enter the AKL lobby. The music, the smell , the architecture are all quite amazing . The thing which made it soo special were the cm's from different countries in Africa. They were stationed throughout the lobby and the main viewing areas, and were lovely interesting , and more than ready to impart some tidbits of information about their culture , the animals , and the things they enjoy about their African countries. They had activities with the kids everyday , all the activities were teaching the children something about the animals , or African storytelling , with simple lessons woven in. We LOVED having the opportunity to take advantage of these offerings , my 8 year old daughter enjoyed the hotel and it's activities as much as or more than the parks. The Mara food court was very good , and we loved Boma's too. We had 2 rooms 1 was 2nd floor Zebra trail and 1 was 4th floor Kudu trail. They were both great rooms, and we saw a few animals each day outside of both rooms. their are viewing areas all over also . The pool was big and fun , it was neat to be able to get out of the pool and walk over to the fence and check out some animals for a few minutes , then dive back in again. The bus service was great . it is a BIG hotel , so some of the walks to rooms are long, but there are viewing areas along the way , and it is beautiful. IF you are looking for a hotel to spend some time in , this is a beautifl choice. For park people ,who really want to get up at dawn and go all day , you might get bothered by the distance of some of the rooms to the lobby . If you are looking to spend some time at a resort , this one is really a treat.

Hi Lizmc
Glad you had a great stay at AKL. I am thinking of bringing my 4yr old and DW to AKL. Is this resort suited for a 4yr old? Are their other kids activities besides the ones you described? Just curious. What kind of rate did you get?
Thanks for the info,
ADP :D

I love AKL and it is wonderful being anywhere in the resort and checking out what the animals are doing. I prefer the higher floors when staying there. More of a birds-eye view.

cdpa4d,
All kids will enjoy this resort! The pool is wonderful and no view is a bad view. The CM are extraordinare!

Right now there are postcards and emails circulating for this resort at 109/night regular view between jan/feb 2004. If you are fortunate enough to get one, do take advantage of it!

cdpa4d, there are lots of activities for kids. Your 4 year old will love it. There is also cookie decorating in the afternoon at Boma and some games in the evenings. The lobby has a childrens area and the TV stays on 24hours a day on the Disney channel. My 5 & 3 year old niece and nephew loved it.

I also Wanted to add that all the activities with the cm's had a wide variety of ages , from 3 to 12. They managed to gear the games , guessing an animal from a card which had been chosen for a child etc. , for that age range, all the kids participated and all the kids had fun. The children were given a sring and after each childrens activity they were given a bead , very cool !
