Just as a reminder, the players are:

Me - Brad, loves to eat and drink but gets full way too fast
DW - Lisa, short & skinny but can eat me under the table

Our stay:
10/24 - 11/4 @ POR

Day 7 (10/30):

Our original plan for this day was another full day at Universal, staying until midnight for the Halloween Horror Nights. Two things made us rethink that strategy:

1. We had finished a vast majority of the attractions at both parks on Day 1 (so a full day all the way through to midnight seemed like overkill); and
2. The little sniffles I had been dealing with since we arrived turned into a full bore cold by the end of day yesterday.

As I'm sure most are aware, besides the kick-butt roller coasters, Universal also has three water rides (Popeye, Dudley Do-Right and Jurassic Park). Well, one major difference between Univ's water rides and Disney's is that, at Disney you can get wet, at Universal you WILL get SOAKED. Lisa and I rode all three water rides in a row, early in the day on Day 1. And we were both drenched, SOAKED, from head to toe. It literally took the entire rest of the day to even begin drying off. This allowed the aforementioned sniffles to really knock me for a loop. Our revised plans had called for a nice relaxing breakfast at Boatwrights around 8:30 or so, then off to a 10:20 Mears shuttle to Univ.

Well, along comes morning, and I was a hurtin' puppy. Lisa, bless her heart, let me sleep until 10:00 (she had walked to the food court at 8:00 to grab herself a coffee, plate of grapes and even a milk for me; total bill of $5.27). This gave us plenty of time to still do:

Breakfast at Boatwright's (no PS) -
We were seated immediately, and I was very thankful to find it very quiet.

For Lisa - Blueprint Omelet (three egg omelet with your choice of toppings, Lisa went with cheddar cheese, mushrooms and spinach)
For Me - Boatwrights Basic

It was my suggestion that Lisa include the spinach in her omelet and we were both happy with that addition. A very yummy, big, loaded omelet. Lisa also loved the biscuits which came with it.

If I was feeling better, I probably would have ordered the blueberry pancakes (I LOVE blueberries) or the french toast again, but I was in a major "comfort" food mood, and scrambled eggs were what the doctor ordered. Again, the "two" eggs translated into a plate full of food. Seriously, if they truly use only two eggs, that has to be one MONSTER chicken laying those bad boys.

Our grade for Boatwright's breakfast #2 - 9 out of 10
Our total bill (not incl. grat.) - $19.05

The rest of the day was pretty lazy, which gave me a chance to let the medicine (Nyquil, I love you) to work it's magic. We headed on over to Univ. at 3:20, finished the rides left from Day 1, and entered HHN at 7:00.

I really, really enjoyed HHN. What an amazing transformation. The set design for the overall park, and the haunted houses in particular was very impressive. Having not eaten since our late breakfast, our first stop was for food.

Confisco Grill (no PS) -
The only sit-down restaurant in Islands of Adv. (to my knowledge). It was basically empty, so we sat right down and ordered:
For Lisa - Buffalo Wings and water
For Me - Chicken Fajitas and a coke

Nothing fancy, to be sure, but everything was very good. Lisa received a heaping plateful of wings, and my fajitas were excellent (with plenty of fixins!). This was a well-timed meal, as it gave me the energy I needed to make it until midnight.

Our grade - 7 out of 10 (as I said, nothing fancy, but tasty)
Our total bill - is missing, but couldn't have been more than $20

One gripe about HHN. As I mentioned, I thought it was really well-done, and the haunted houses in particular were fantastic. Here's the problem though:
They were serving alcohol, and lots of it.

Now, I completely understand why they were. One, it makes a LOT of money. Two, the crowd that is drawn to the event is basically a younger crowd who wants to drink and will pay ridiculous prices for it (lots of disposable income). But therein lies the problem --
younger, kinda rowdy crowd
dimly lit (mostly dark) area
fog everywhere
and lots of alcohol

Yep, there were fights, and lots of them. By the end of the evening (around 11ish or so), the atmosphere had become pretty uncomfortable. It was obvious many had had too much to drink by this point, and were looking for some trouble. To Universal's credit, there was an obvious police prescence at the park, and they moved in to quell violence immediately, but I was still ready to leave by 11:30.

Sorry not much food reviews in this update, but the next update will contain our Reserve Dinner. You won't want to miss it!
:teeth:

Thanks for the review. I really know very little about Universal, so all this info real helps when starting to think about future trips.

Well HHN sounds like something we'll have to be sure to miss. I appreciate all the details, too.
