just back - a couple of observations

As one who was once a 14 year old boy:teeth: :teeth: :teeth:
I hate the smoking though, turn 'em in. My DD CM takes great pleasure in telling people to lose the smokes:D

I have to say that the clothing issue is not limited to Disney. My mom just left here after a week's visit and we took the kids to the mall on Saturday. We both commented on the small amount of clothing females of all ages and sizes were wearing. I said I was really not sure if it is a good thing or not that larger women are so showy these days. I have always had a few pounds to lose and have been very concerned about showing it off. These days girls and women seem to just roll the waistband down under their tummy and "let it all hang out." I guess it is good that people have so much self-confidence, but the other side of me thinks that modesty was a good thing. I know it is hot at Disney (and everywhere else this time of year) but I actually feel cooler in looser fitting shorts and cotton T-shirts. I am not sure that skin tight denim shorts would ever feel comfortable. Also, people with bigger legs, like me, must get some terrible chaffing if you know what I mean! We have 3 daughters and finding decent clothes for them is hard. I will be so happy if the belly shirt, low cut jeans, and Daisy Duke clothes EVER go out of style! I miss the preppy look myself LOL!!!!!

Not to start trouble here but anyone who was a teen in the late 60's and early 70's, do you not remember the style of clothes that we wore? I remember all to well the small halter tops and short shorts with a very low waistline, and I also remember my mother carrying on about the fashion of the day, so it seems the styles have returned. And by the way even though I wore those skimpy outfits back then I turned out to be pretty good.

Folks I have nothing against tank tops. It was the questionable decision to tuck the bottom of the top into the bra that set this outfit off. The other problem was yep, I wore really short shorts in my day. My day has passed! I still wear short, but you can't see my panties anymore. As I said this woman's preteen daughters had more clothing on and they were also wearing tank tops.

As for the bra, I personally think that it looks way to uncomfortable to wander around without one. Let's face it, Disney rides can be bumpy and I find it a little uncomfortable for those things to be flapping around! Maybe it does not bother others, but.... some women looked pretty miserable maybe that was the problem.

I see some of the cute "small" outfits the kids wear and wish I still had the body, but I think that at over 40 it's time to move on (at least for me!)

The thing I really find amazing is wearing a swimsuit to the parks. I used to sell swimsuits for a living and they were not designed for 24 hour a day wear. Personally I would think a one piece suit would get uncomfortable and wearing them like that can cause health problems for women.

I was a teen in the 60's and yes I wore short-shorts and halter tops. I think the difference was they were my size; not 3 sizes too small. Also, the hip huggers of our day were slightly below the belly button NOT right at the pubic bone. IMO many of todays young (and not so young) girls dress way too provocatively. I think a little more conservative dress in the parks would be much better.

Since when is it okay to let your underwear be a part of your fashion statement?

Letting your thong show or wearing a shirt in a particular fashion to let your bra show is just in poor taste.

I'm not talking an errant bra strap here and size is not the issue, trashy fashion statements are.

We are going for practicality when we go in August. In parks that have "wet" rides, all 4 of us (including DW and DD5) will be wearing men's (or boy's) quick-drying water shorts. We'll all wear some form of quick-drying tank, and DW will wear her quick-drying Land's End Tankini (which comes down to her navel and has underwire). Of course, boat shoes in the backpack to put on during Splash and Kali. This allows us to stay cool, get wet without being miserable the rest of the day, and keep some modesty as well.

DW is VERY conservative dress-wise. I'm just dorky and don't care.
Of course, I'm hammering the modesty concept into DD5 and DS6's heads, especially DD5. She's already a heartbreaker, when she gets to her teens, if she shows too much skin, boys will start passing out all over town.

As the mom of a CM , just a little "heads up" for the smokers. PLEASE realize that many of the character Cast Members--both "face" and "fur"-- have asthma or other breathing problems. When there is smoke drifting around them, they're not able to explain to you that they're having a problem breathing--after all, that would destroy the "magic." My DD had to rush "off-stage" once because an inconsiderate person--who was not in a designated smoking area-- blew smoke into her face causing an asthma attack. Occasionally, because of special circumstances, the characters have to do their "Meet and Greets" very close to smoking areas. If you see a character in these sections, PLEASE don't blow smoke towards them. All the characters work very hard and they never want to disappoint the children by getting sick "on-stage."

What is "Daisy Duke" clothing? We don't have the expression in the UK! (Doesn't sound like the sort of thing I'll be wearing anyway!).

Daisy Dukes refer to VERY short denim shorts, usually cut-off style. The name comes from the late 70's / Early 80's show "Dukes of Hazzard". Daisy Duke was portrayed by Catherine Bach (Ah, what a great time to be going through puberty!):bounce:

This discussion is really interesting from a cultural perspective. I have noticed that the standard for how much body exposure is "acceptable" in public has really changed and I can really empathize with parents who are trying to limit the "exposure". Fashion is a very powerful force in our culture and it can really limit the style choices avaialble. I have to admit, as I did before, to not being very directly judgmental about what other people choose to wear regardless of how I think it really looks. I expect my tolerance level will decrease as my daughter's age increases. But as one poster already said, it brings back a lot of memories about maturing in the 60s and 70s. Having spent a few summers on the Jersey Shore as a lifeguard in those days, you can imagine what my attention span for the swimmers was. It's a miracle nobody drowned on my watch!!

To me, this is really a simple issue of good taste....

No problem with shorts, tasteful bikini tops, or tank tops here. After all, Florida heat is rough.

But women AND MEN shouldn't wear clothes that they don't have the body for.

And if someone has the body for it, they should make sure things fit PROPERLY (i.e. not too small). If it doesn't fit properly, pick something else.

Please.

PEOPLE: LOOK IN THE MIRROR FOR JUST A FEW SECONDS BEFORE YOU LEAVE....think about what your clothes will be saying about you.
