Give us a break. That ECV road hog knocked his daughter off his shoulders. She could have been injured, or landed on her head and suffered a concussion.
i am the ECV user not the one that hit him but in would have taken a picture as he went away and had security for stealing my key. I have been walked into while stopped had key in my hand and that person was why did you run into me? her husband grabbed her and said she was stopped you ran into her. she was still but it is her fault not mine. I would loved to have not needed that trip but was not possible. on this last trip I was able just use my cane. had a father pull his daughter right next to me almost knocking cane out from under me yelled when my cane came down on her foot. just answered would you have rathered I would have fallen on her? because either the cane or I was going down there. his main complaint I was walking to slow and they could not get past me

That is the dumbest argument I have ever heard and underlines why the World is going to crap. ASSume this person was a road hog, ASSume it was all the ECV'ers fault, ASSume that the parent isn't responsible for the consequences when carrying a child on their shoulders.

Yup, you heard it right here at the DIS - apparently if I don't take the exact route you predict, I am responsible for any outcome and it's okay for you to run away with my shoes. Or worse.
Here's a thought:try to spend a minute thinking about both sides of a situation before you open your mouth and decide it's okay to abuse someone who is disabled.

SMH

YOUR argument is dumb, and obviously biased. If she had gotten injured, it would be okay because the ECV "driver" is disabled? It's just luck that she wasn't badly hurt. The poster said that the ECV ran into him and knocked her off his shoulders. You calling him a liar? I'm taking him at his word, do you know why? Because no one would ever do anything reckless or careless when he has his own daughter on his shoulders! You see, that actually makes sense -- unlike your ranting.

Taking away his key is not abuse, by the way. When someone causes an accident, we take away his license. And a CM will get him another ECV. But maybe he'll actually ride it more responsibly after being taught a lesson. What was the parent supposed to do, shrug off the fact that his child nearly got badly hurt? If someone on foot had walked into him and knocked her off his shoulders, he probably would've gotten a punch in the face. And rightfully so.

Maybe the parent should have apologized -- after all, we're all supposed to bend over backwards for the disabled, in today's politically correctness gone mad. "Oh, I'm so sorry that my daughter and I were occupying the space you charged into."

Shouldn't the person in the ECV have slowed down and been more careful, around someone carrying a child on his shoulders? Or maybe he can't even control that thing. If so, it's highly irresponsible to be tooling around in it, in a crowded theme park full of kids, until he learns how to control it properly. Too often, those damn machines charge through a crowd, assuming that everyone will part like the red sea.

My g.f. has arthritis in her knees, so we always rent a wheelchair in the parks, and I push her for a week and a half. I'm always very careful not to run into anyone, and I certainly never knocked anyone over. I'm very cautious with that thing because I'm acutely aware that it would be very easy to hurt someone. And it's smaller than an ECV and has no motor. If you're going to use a vehicle of any kind, especially in a crowded place, you bear the lion's share of responsibility. It's not everyone else's responsibility to clear a path for you or get the hell out of your way.

Quoted it in case the person decid s to edit that horror show out.
I don't plan on deleting it. It happened, I did it. I have no issue doing it again. YOU are operating a motor vehicle. It is your responsibility to be in control of your vehicle. I was standing still and they came barreling into me. They were lucky I just didn't throw the keys in the lake. I think all ECVs should have speed controls on them so they can't go more than 1MPH.

I've got no dog in this fight, but i'm jumping into this soon to be closed thread because I agree with the idea of personal responsibility for the ECV users. Its unfortunate that you need them, but they should not come with an inherent advantage -- the advantage of running into people without any repercussions to oneself. The ECV already give a radius wider than those of a walking person, and they should bare an extra responsibility for being careful, as well as the assumption that any collision with a walking person is, by definition, the ECV's fault.

For example, you can't back your car into a walking person in a parking lot without it being the driver's fault. Same thing with the ECVs at WDW -- the things stop on a dime -- the only way you run into someone is if you aren't looking in front of you as you drive it. That may be understandable at WDW, because there are cool things to see and watch all around you, but that's the trade-off. You need/want to use one of those things? Then it means you're going to miss out on some stuff you might have seen otherwise. I fail to see how it falls on the person walking in front to be aware of the ECV behind them.

Same thing with strollers. You're choosing to add the large device to your person; you have the responsibility to guide it without doing so at the detriment of others.
