Just back 11-2 - 3! Howie Mandell was with the Mouse!

Sherry did you read my latest idea for your trip in Dec.? it is on page 1. :)

I most definitely can see how it would feel more like a vacation, if staying on site, or off, while visiting Dl. Even if you live less than 10 minutes away from DL. Otherwise, though, it can make for a very nice day trip. Preferably not becoming so tired though, that taking a nap on the park bench is beginning to look most inviting. he he ! ;) :)

Yes, I did, Gisele! Thank you! You were going to be my very next reply! I actually thought along the lines of what you suggested, although I have to wait and actually see what my friend is doing in those couple of days leading up to December 26th, when we are supposed to go to DLR. She may have family obligations that would make it tough for her to let me stay at her place. I will have to wait until closer to the dates of our (hopeful) trip to see what she is doing. I STILL don't think she will have to work on the 26th - I am sure her office will be closed - so this probably won't even be an issue come December 26th and we will both be able to get to DLR at the same time, but once it gets to be early December, she will know for sure and then I will be able to weigh all the options better! Thank you for continuing to brainstorm on my behalf! I appreciate it!:goodvibes :goodvibes

You are welcome! :)

I had rather figured that you might have had that idea,as a possible plan. However, did not know for sure.

Did you call super shuttle, and ask them for a quote?

As a matter of fact, I just called them today. DLR Guest Services had also suggested them - they had a list of contact numbers, but they were not sure who could really do what - and SuperShuttle will do it for about $130 each way (including tip), which is better than the $150 per way place, which did not include tip! Still pricey, but it is an option in an emergency!

Anyway, I don't want to hijack the OP's thread with my shuttle talk!! Thanks again for thinking of me, Gisele!

Doesn't mean they were NOT staying there, either! It is very inconvenient to spend more than one day in the parks and drive all the way home in between. Nobody wants to go down to DLR and then drive back home and then back to DLR the next day if you live more than five minutes away. So, assuming they did a trip consisting of more than one day, then I am certain they would have stayed onsite. They live in the San Fernando Valley or at least they did when my client dealt with Howie's wife recently - and driving all the way back home would have been a pain, ifthey were only going to turn around and go back to DLR the next day! L.A. is NOT as close to Anaheim as one who lives out of California may assume it is. Even with no traffic at all, it is a good 45 minutes just from Beverly Hills to Anaheim, and much more than that from the SF Valley.

Oh, and by the way, I never said you said it was "so odd." I simply asked a question too! :) And the OP did say that Howie was "just outside the GCH." Not "near" the GCH. This means he likely came into DCA through the hotel GUEST-ONLY entrance at the GCH!

...and one can only be NEAR the guest only entrance if staying at the hotel, right? :confused3

I know how far LA is from DL- I've travelled it many times. 45 minutes isn't that far at all.

You asked me why I thought it was "so odd" when I never said it was.

This seems like a pointless debate...

45 minutes is far to some people who are not YOU after a long day at Disneyland. And the OP didn't say "Near" the GCH; OP said "just outside." That implies a different thing. And I did NOT ask you why YOU thought it was "so odd". I said "why is that so odd?" That was MY phrase, not yours. Read the posts more carefully before addressing them, please. I am not sure what your issue is but you initially started the "debate." I am bored with it and moving on now! Bye!

I do not care where Howie was. Ha Ha!
Now if Clint Eastwood was at Dl. when I was, you bet, I would be interested in seeing him. I would love to have his autograph too! :) He is one of my most favorite actors of all time! Many of my most favorite movies, are those, that he has acted in. At the top of my list is Dirty Harry, I very much like the sequels, however the original is my most favorite. Then there are the westerns....... I especially like High Plains Drifter, Hang em' High, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly! Among other films as well.
No, I am not a fan. For fan, is short for fanatic, and I am not fanatical about people, maybe food, horses, and Ferrari's, and the color red, but not people. That is just a little too weird!

Wait a minute........ what in the hades were we talking about to begin with? ;) Well it has to be good if Clint ( The Man with the Squint! ) is included!

Inside the park near the GCH entrance does not imply he's staying at the hotel.

It seems as though your weekness is reading comprehension as your response to my statement of "do people who live in LA stay at hotels near DL" was: "why is that so odd?"

How is that not asking me how it's odd? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever...

Gee, chip....meet shoulder.... What is your deal? You seem bent on contradicting everything or fighting over some point that is inconsequential. It was because you had the :confused3 inserted in your post that I asked why L.A. residents staying at a DLR resort was odd. It is just the word I chose to use. It doesn't seem that it should be a confusing or controversial issue to anyone! The bottom line is, some people who live in L.A. will sometimes stay at one of the DLR hotels - as evidenced by a few posts we have gotten on this thread - and sometimes celebrities who go to DLR for more than one day WILL stay onsite. It makes sense, even if not to you. Since the GCH is the most elegant of the three hotels, they likely stay there. Howie could have been staying there, or he could have been eating at Napa Rose, or whatever. Maybe not. But who cares? If I think he used the GCH entrance into DCA, and was a hotel guest, then that is what I think. Why do you care? I don't care if he did or did not. I am simply saying he could have been staying there. It is not out of the realm of possibility.

By the way, 'weakness' is spelled with an 'a', not the extra 'e' that you inserted, but thank you for pointing out my "weekness." ;)

FTR, not trying to add the debate fuel here but if I lived in LA and could afford to stay at GCH I would definitely do so. The GCH is gorgeous and at the end of a night at DL/DCA I would rather not drive home if it's more than 30 min. :)

I wonder if there will be more DLR hotel deals in the upcoming year. Disneegrl4eva posted a thread with an article today about how Disney hotel bookings are down, and other ways the economy is affecting the Disney resorts. I mean, now we are about to get taxed on the actual ticket prices, which was inevitable. I imagine they would keep offering those PIN codes on the hotels and other promo deals throughout 2009 to lure in business. I hope they don't try to raise the hotel room prices for another year or so, because, as we see on this board, more and more people are staying offsite, at the Good Neighbor hotels - and getting better rooms in the process - for much lower rates. Those DLR hotels are just too expensive for people to continue to book when they can stay at HoJo's at the great Entertainment rate.

Sorry you felt it was lacking the magic. That's why I plan carefully, so that I don't end up there when it's packed. DL is always magical to me, the crowds, not so much! LOL

But yes, more room at DL for us! :) I have no problem with people sticking to WDW. Infact I encourage it! :)

I hope that Howie, does not end up being the reason for but another thread being locked. ;) he he! Seriously.

Wait- I thought you were bored with this?

However, you're right- I was too busy getting the chip off my shoulder to spell check. It's sad when one must resort to bringing up petty things such as a misspelled word to add to their argument.

This debate was born out of misunderstanding. I'm sure if we were speaking face to face, it would be no big deal. I really don't need the reasons why someone who lives in LA stays onsite. I simply wanted to know if it is done. You seemed to get defensive with your "why is that so odd?" response....and then it snowballed into this trivial debate.

I hope that Howie, does not end up being the reason for but another thread being locked. ;) he he! Seriously.

That is hilarious, Gisele! Let's just blame Howie Mandel for everything! The economy, the homeless situation, third world famine, obnoxious employers, noisy neighbors, pollution, global warming, etc. Howie is responsible for the downfall of civiliation as we know it! :rotfl:

Seriously, his wife seems to be very kind and charitable. What happened was that one of my clients - who does a LOT of low-key, unrecognized work for various charities and people who are terminally sick with cancer, etc. - sent a fax to Howie's wife's shop - she has a boutique-type of shop in the Valley - and asked if there was any way for one of her very ill friends to get tickets to Deal or No Deal. Howie's wife received the fax and, unlike many high-profile people who would ignore such a fax, talked to Howie about it and not only arranged for the person to have tickets to Deal or No Deal but also arranged for Howie to meet the lady backstage (and he did shake her hand, albeit reluctantly!) and for someone else to kind of give her the VIP treatment. It meant the world to the sick lady, as Deal... is her favorite show of all time. It was a really nice thing to do - and 'famous' people so often forget what it is like to be human or to relate to humans in a compassionate and kind way.

That was a very nice, and charitable thing to do. That hand shake, probably was very hard for him to do, seeing how apparently, he has a phobia regarding germs.
I very much hope the best for the woman who is ill. I hope that she can make a great and full recovery, and live a good, long, and happy life.
