another great fall vacation:

me: dh, 41, dis veteran of many trips to mk in the 70's
my wife, dw, THE biggest mickey mouse fan; we have mm sheets, mm headboard, mm night tables, mm fireplace grill, mm clocks,...need i say more?

last year we went to the cbr for a wonderful week, we had not been in over five years, since we moved from west palm to denver. i was wondering
if we would have as good as time this year, and the answer is YES. the weather wasnt as perfect as last year, it was chilly on our lst full day, but it was
shorts and t shirts weather the rest of the week. we only got a couple of sprinkles, and one downpour at epcot, but at least it was warm rain.

things were definately not as busy as last year: we didnt wait for anything on sunday thru thursday. we walked right into flying fish on tuesday night,
and we were one of four tables in the kona cafe on thursday for lunch. choc. lava cake and koko puffs! we were staying at port orleans, riverside,
and we saw them closing the french quarter on friday. the hours in the parks are cut back, some restaurants and attractions are closed, but we had plenty of time
to do everything we wanted to do. it started to get busy on friday, and saturday the mk was really full. mgm was also very busy, due mainly to the abc soap stars event going on. blizzard beach was the only water park open: we went early and helped open the park, and it never really did get packed like we saw the year before. be sure to do the single rider enclosed tube at runoff rapids, its a great ride!

for something different we went to discovery cove, and its a wonderful day: a new, clean nicely designed "park" with different swim areas. the dolphins are amazing, the swim with them is about 45 min long, but its so much fun. you can also snorkel with stingrays and feed them, snorkel in a larger lagoon stocked with many fish, and there is a fresh water lagoon for swimming that circles the park, along with a small bird aviary. its hard to say if its really worth the $199.00 it costs, but we felt it was something worth doing once. the pace is relaxed, they only let in so many people a day (something like 1000), and its great just to relax in the sun by the lagoons.

our flights to and from orlando were full but uneventful. security is tighter at the airports: i had to take off my sneakers and they xrayed them at d.i.a! and everyone's bags get checked at the parks, but its a minimal wait and actually reassuring. we had paid for the trip months in advance, and thought of cancelling after sept. 11, but we are both glad we did not. please dont hesitate to go! i would also like to thank all the people who have shared their trips on this board: i have been lurking here for quite a while, and reading about all the trips got me ready for ours.

now, just 5 months until our lst cruise ever, and of course, its a disney cruise!

It sounds like you had a great time! Makes me anxious for my next trip! :)

alot of people talking about them....but always think they are cereal.......thanks again for the great report

We spent a wonderful weekend at All StarSP......Arrived around 10:30AM Sat , left the car and contents at the hotel ,and took the bus right to MGM for the SOAPS - this was a first for us - and it was so much fun! I thought it was crowded, but in speaking with "veterans" of other soap years - I was told crowds were much less....I didn't bother to wait for hours to get a wristband and actually speak to the stars and pose for an individual photo with them - but still was able to get up close enough to take our own photos, and pass some comments back and forth at the autograph signings. Also with a little patience and some "shoulder" movements, I was able to get up real close to the discussions on stage under the Soccerer's Hat - and the talks in the ABC theatre were great too! - I didn't bother to play "Millionaire"with the Stars - We had done Millionaire before- it would have been fun with the Stars, - just didn't have the time.....The Party Sat. Night was awesome - I I did wait for 21/2 hours (from 5PM) in my very front row spot, and it was worth it......(DH just sat on a side bench and he claimed he saw & heard everything just fine, but it was my thrill to be close enough for a personal wink from the performing stars.....Although we had early dinner at Mamma Melrose, we didn't bother with the reserved seating at Fantasmic, time interfered with the Soap Street Jam. We'll catch Fantasmic again in Feb. Sunday morning, we went back to MGM to catch some of the Stars missed on Sat - We lunched at the Brown Derby (Yum, never mss the Cobb Salad) and then we headed over to Epcot to check out the Food and Wine Festival....Crowds here were very light - I didn't see any lines at all for the food tasting booths - we just looked, as we had reservations for the Winmaker's Dinner at 6 (and just had lunch at the Brown Derby) DH said next year he would like to taste around a bit - but I would rather have a nice sit down lunch and a nice dinner than little tastes of stuff - and at $2-$3 a pop and then xtra for wine, I think it would end up costing as much....and you couldn't rest your feet! We did enjoy a cooking demo, (with samples) and some of the street entertainment , albeit less than usual......there was a downpour, but we were under roof and soon it was time for our Winemakers Dinner. I have posted details under the Adult/Solo board, suffice it to say it was fantastic and we have decided to make this an annual weekend. Although we are Vacation Club members, I had changed our reservations at the Boadwalk (Studio) and opted for a special bargain price at the All Stars and we were not sorry. With such a busy time, all we did was fall into bed at night, the room was clean and comfortable, the food court was fine for a quick breakfast before heading over to the parks, and the bus transportation was great - we had hardly any wait time. What more could we want?

Aalan:

Glad you had a great time. Saying "hi" from Longmont. It's not often I see people on the Dis from Colorado. My DH and I went to the World on September 14. We drove. Yes, it was far, but no, I don't regret it. We had a great 16 day vacation. Thanks for the great report.

koko puffs at the kona cafe are basically several tube shape pastries with choc. cream inside, covered with a heavy pudding dabbed on the outside, drizzled with choc. sauce, topped with whipped cream, w/ several choc candy butterfly wings sticking out here and there. a nice presentation that tastes, well you can imagine...awesome! watch out, one order is big enough for two. i had heard about them a lot on the boards, and they didnt quite live up to the expectations, but they still were very, very good. so go get some!

hi kelli, we actually live in highlands ranch, which is too far from disney!:( we lived in co. spgs. for a few years, then moved to west palm beach for nine years. being only a little under 3 hours away from mickey was very tempting: we made many day trips. but we decided we really love this area, so we moved back here 5 years ago. its hard to believe its snowing outside right now, and last week we were in the warmth and sunshine at disney.

Great report Aalan!! Thanks for posting!

ReneeMoss--Thanks for the report on the Soap weekend at MGM. I don't watch soaps, but it's interesting to read about it.
