Just asked CM about UPH...?

I had read that you could drop arrival AND departure day from the UPH which is what my friends need for our upcoming trip. I was just on the phone with MS and they thought (although he didn't sound completely convinced) that they could only drop one of the two and not both. We'll be going to MNSSHP the arrival evening and driving 7 hours on departure day so the only thing that makes sense economically is dropping both days. ANyone know for certain?

Thanks
Kristen

I was also under the impression it was possible to drop day of arrival and day of departure. That's what we plan on doing for our trip in November. Anyone know for sure if you can drop both days? If not, I may need to rethink which ticket media to buy.

The "official" answer to that question is that it is at the CM's discretion who is checking you in. I wouldn't count on it....but I haven't heard of anyone who wasn't allowed to do so.

I have done so several times, although not for over a year now.

The CM's are usually very helpful accomplishing this. If you get a denial from the first one, thank them and check with another in a few minutes. This is unique, I think< to DVC resorts- as the others insist on the full compliment of days.

Enjoy!

WLV in July would only drop one day! They said that is the policy. I would have loved to drop two, but they were adamant!

The way I've always done it is when checking in I don't buy the passes but then go down first thing in the morning and buy the pass and ask to leave the last day off and have never had aproblem

Murfman, this is exactly what I did since we didn't arrive until 5pm on check in day. The next morning I went to the desk and was told we had already dropped the first day by default and they wouldn't drop another day. They said its tied to the full length of stay no matter when you purchase the UPH.

We stayed in BWV in February and checked in around 4 pm. We bought our ticket media on check in and had asked about dropping our 1st and last days and had no problem.

We had a dinner res at the Poly at 5:30 and a plane to catch at around 1:30 the day we were leaving. The CM was more than happy to accomadate us.

We did call BWV's in advance from HH where we were staying the night before and spoke to the desk manager and had a name so it was easy.

maybe this will help.

Hmmm.....now I'm wondering what to do....do I get someone at the front desk to confirm in advance of my parent's arrival that they can drop both days? Try the first evening they're there a few times if we don't get the answer we like?

Or have they just recently changed this policy and it will soon be "one day dropped only" at all the resorts?

We've always been able to drop one or both days whenever we have asked at a DVc resort. But we have never stayed at WLV or BVC. OKW and BWV have always done this for us. You might give it a try and if they say no then just buy hopper passes instead. I know that before we joined DVC the deluxes and moderates that we stayed at wouldn't let you drop both days.

The technical answer is that you can drop neither. Having said that, I haven't heard anyone at a DVC resort that's been told that since this pass discount was in place. I do know of people who were told only one or the other but many have been allowed to drop both. Look in the Members Benefits Guidebook (the black and white pages), the last one we received was in 1999. It says on page 8
"Entire Length of Stay" includes both the day of arrival and the day of departure.
I'd assume you can drop one or maybe even both but if you want to talk rules with them, you're out of luck.

I am interested in the policy for UPH. We are planning a trip next year with three days at BCV - the 4 day cruise - and two days at BCV. We don't plan to go to the parks the second two days but would like to go sometime during the first three days. Is it possible to get a UPH for just those three days or do they count it as one reservation. I do have separate reservation numbers for each one.

I would love to be able to just get a two day UPH pass for the first part of the trip.

Do you just get the UPH when you arrive or do you call before?

Thanks for the help.

Lesley - Are your parents staying the whole trip with you or arriving after you. I know a couple of years ago when we were staying at OKW for two weeks and my son and daughter-in-law joined us the second week, I was told I could not get LOS passes for them for just the week, that LOS went for the whole time we were there, so they bought other passes instead. I don't know if this is still true, but you may definitely want to call and ask about that part of it. Maybe I just got a CM who won't let us do it that way.

We were at WLV in May, we checked in after a 4 day cruise, they let us drop the first and last day with no problem. They did however forget to give me my DVC discount on the passes and I had to call back later to get a credit.

My parents will be with us for our entire stay at the BWV. We are arriving a few days earlier and staying at VWL until the day they arrive (and we're moving on to the Polynesian and OKW in the week after they leave). So they will be with us for the entire week of that particular reservation.

We won't be getting the UPH's ourselves because we have AP's.....which seems to be the one exception allowed to the rule that everyone in a party must get the UPH's.

I did look at the cost difference...and its only about $60 for both of them for an extra day, so if they are forced to pay for tickets for their last day....so be it. We'll make up the difference by eating an extra meal in the room. At least it seems definite that they will drop at least one day and often will drop both.

The biggest part of this issue is that now its a lot more expensive to buy park hoppers at the resort....and you can't get a DC discount unless you buy them in advance. So if you want a discount you either need to buy whatever they say you have to buy at check in, or buy in advance. You can't see in advance what will work best because you can't get all the info you need until check in.

Then again, I wouldn't push for a clear answer to the dropping days issue since stirring the pot could likely result in front desk cm's no longer being able to drop days at all.

I am curious to get confirmation from someone who has purchased UPH's since the price changes that they haven't discontinued the ability to drop a day along with the price increase.....which just seems to be how things work with Disney these days. Probably within a few weeks we'll be able to find out for sure whether all has remained the same.

labr, sometimes the rules and implementation are not the same. The rules are you couldn't drop any days but obviously this hasn't been enforced. Technically, if you are at the same resort but change rooms or room types, that's still one stay. As I understand it, changing resorts (or DCL) would make those technically 2 stays and you should be ok, even under strict interpreation of those rules.

While this is the first time I've heard of them denying the pass for the entire length of stay for that family, it makes sense since they were not there the entire length of the reservation. I can see how this would be abused with people trying to get the passes for only a part of their stay.

Just to clarify, they didn't deny us (DH and I )LOS, just son and daugher-in-law. We didn't need them since we were had AP, prior to that whenever we had anyone with us, it was before 2000 and we were on our free passes from joining in 93 as well as our guests when we had a two bedroom. This basically was our first experience with LOS passes for others. I know there are people always trying to get around the rules, that was not our intent. We just didn't know how it worked for LOS. I agree that there are always those trying to get around the rules. I just wanted to make Lesley aware that if her parents weren't there the full time, they may have a problem, but since they are, what I was talking about isn't even an issue. Although I've been a member since 93, I have only been observing the boards for a while, and I am glad to have found them, because I have learned more things through these boards.

Thanks for all the replies - although I guess I'm just as confused! I have the same problem as you Lesley - now that they've changed the discount to prior purchase, my guests will be out of luck if they don't let them drop days at check-in. If anyone has a recent experience, please let us know....

When we were at BW last November they dropped the first and last days for us. We are going down in October and are planning to do the same. Hopefully this will be allowed again.
