Just arrived home from honeymoon...used ME...all luggage soaked and ruined! Help!

I think even my $19.99 Macy's special luggage is water resistant, although I wouldn't trust it to float). Water resistant doesn't mean water proof, though; if the OP's luggage was on the belt being loaded into the plane for a long period of time on a downpour, it's possible that, yes, it got wet inside and out.

This would be Southwest's of MCO's responsibility.

If you checked them at 10:00am, RAC probably had them to the airport by early afternoon. If RAC left them in the rain, they probably would have started to dry out by 11:30pm. Sounds to me that SW left them somewhere outside closer to the flight time, especially if it was raining when you got to the airport.

Note to all future travelers....if you have anything you can't, or don't want to, replace, put it in your carryon bags.bags...always.

That would work wonderful if only those crazy Americans would stop lugging carryons as big as Mount Everest inside the plane.:lmao:
We had a flight from Miami to Düsseldorf Germany. As normal passengers we had only one piece of carry on.
After the Americans that came from a inland US flight entered the check in area all a a sudden first we were ask to give the carryons to the staff and it would go into the checked luggage department.
As no European was giving up there right to take one carryon we were forced to see our carryons whit very expensive stuff like lap tops been thrown into the belly of the plane. We clearly could see it.
The strange thing was we had to remove our carryon for persons whit a bike frame and a sunshade thing.

Have to agree!! As a nation, we tend to bring everything including the kitchen sink when we travel!! My Japanese sister-in-law can pack for a 2 week stay someplace in a very small bag. My nephews as well.
It may be time for the airlines to start charging for carryon bin space. That should cut down on the abuse. But because travelers insist on the lowest possible fare, the airlines now charge for checked bags, so travelers avoid those charges by packing carryons that are as huge as possible.

Seriously folks..it really is a good idea to protect your belongings. Use those plastic bags for your clothes. Bring home any gifts or souveniers in your carryon bags. It really is better to be safe than to be sorry.

I bring one yes ONE suitcase to travel around for a month. ( I even pack nice clothes and a suit for my husband to dine at Victoria and Albert's) Thanks to all the laundry's in the hotels I even come home whit only ONE pair of dirty clothes.:thumbsup2
And regarding to bring water or soda's into Florida that is totally ridiculous. We don't bring a drop over the ocean and never died of thirst,in fact we manage to leave WDW every time with 30 credits left on our snack list. :lmao:

My DH laughs at me and my Ziplocs, but I put everything in Ziplocs when I pack:thumbsup2

This American has spent a week at Disney World twice with only carry-ons each time. And most recently, spent only 4 days there with just a backback.

I will never understand why people feel the need to pack water in luggage.

The thing that I can't wrap my head around is no one else's bags being wet. For all four of the OPs bags to be that soaked, there had to be a common element.
I'm going to go with "connecting flight" + not many other MCO originations.

OP: continue working with Southwest. They are the party who would bear responsibility, if anyone does.

We spray our luggage with Camp Out water repellant 2 days before we leave. Just in case something like this happens. You can get Camp Out at Walmart in the shoe dept. Its made to keep camping gear water repellant.

Another good tip DW and I learned from these boards, ship them home. First trip DW and I ever took to WDW, we took an extra bag to bring home souvernirs. When we got home, some of the glass stuff we bought landed up broken. Even though we thought we packed it well enough to not break. Last trip, we shipped all the breakable stuff home.

We do to. For our clothes, we love the space saver bags. :thumbsup2

Just wanted to share my experience with OP. I was also traveling on SouthWest, and it was a torrential rain, not a downpour but a sustained heavy rain. I could see the SW personnel loading the bags onto the plane, but for some reason they stopped to take care of another issue, whatever, but the bags sat out, uncovered until the baggage handlers got back to them 15 minutes later. From my window I could see 2 of my familys bags on the top of the pile, and when we claimed our luggage in Philadelphia, all the clothes and shoes in both of those bags were wet.

I wish you luck with working with SouthWest. We were fortunate that we carried on any souveniers (pictures) that might have been ruined.

So sorry to hear about your luggage and contents, but like others I agree it probably wasn't ME. We have been using ME for years and when you check luggage at the resort they place them in large metal containers, so I suspect that's not where the problem occured.

As frustrating as it might be, I would contact every organization that touched your luggage, ME, the airline etc. I would also contact the resort you were staying at. Unless you saw ME put the luggage in a metal container, they could possibly be held responsible. Since you don't know where it happened, contacting everyone will more likely yield results.

Good luck.

So sorry this happened to you, OP and hope it didn't ruin your Disney memories! Congrats on your marriage!

The water repellant works great on back packs too, so if you are going on the water rides, everything inside stays dry.

I know...I can never understand the need to pack water in checked bags. Yes, water is expensive in Florida, especially at the parks. But you can use a grocery delivery service and get all your things delivered for one delivery charge. The things people will do to save a few bucks amazes me.

And, I reuse mine. And, I always have a good supply on hand when someone needs to use one. My family has finally stopped laughing at me.

People....you all need to understand something here. DME has nothing whatsoever to do with any luggage going back to MCO. That is the responsibiliy of BAGS. Yes, Disney does tend to lump the two services in together, and the CMs at the RAC counter do seem to have on DME uniforms. But it really isn't DME. So, calling ME and complaining to them isn't going to do much for you.

Yikes.

I guess this goes to prove that using plastic bags is the way to go! DH needs to read this- he thinks I'm nuts for always putting things in big ziplocks!!

Sorry OP, what a pain! Hopefully SW makes it right for you, because it's certainly their fault, not the company that Disney uses to transport stuff. If it was BAGS' fault, it would probably have dried by the time you got home (at least a little bit! they would be damp, not soaked). AND I bet SW would have made note of the bags being wet... because that's just not normal.

:sad2:

O believe me water is just a "normal" thing. I know people that smuggle potatoes across the ocean :lmao:

Grocery delivery? My husband would send me walking to the airport with my suitcase and without a CC if I tried that.
