My family and I are going to Disney World, through a package from my union. At a Union meeting this weekend, this guy was talking, claiming that he has family involved with some of the Disney's imagineers.

His Rumor was that by 2018, Disney will have a 5th park. The park name has not been determined yet, but the park will be the exact replica of Magic Kingdom, except it will be darker and twisted.

As you walk through Main st, instead of it being happy and jolly, the main st buildings will be made to look old and run down, even haunted. The castle will still be the focal point, but it will be darker as if a Malevolent force took over. The Parades in the park will have all the villains, throughout all the Disney movies, walking and escorting floats. On the floats, there will be cages with Mickey, Minnie and the rest of the gang locked in the cages. The whole idea and theme is that the families visiting, will be accomplaces to taking over the park. During meet and greets, there will be a villain, along with a beloved character, who will be in shackles, to take a picture with.

Im not putting this on here saying I think this is true. IMO, I cannot see Disney doing something so scary to little ones.

According to this guy, he was making bets with people who didnt believe him and he was stressing to people to not bet, if they had no intentions of paying. None of the people from this union dinner, are people who will be retiring soon, so I am looking forward to 2018 lol. The person who told this rumor, is the person who put together this vacation.

this is a long-standing rumor that is at best wishful-thinking. Look for posts/pages dedicated to Disney's Dark Kingdom... so, hopefully you made a nice-sized bet, because that rumor (which has been around for roughly 5 years) has had absolutely zero traction. !!

Love the idea but I don't believe it will happen, but he must have a great imagination cause it could work for some

Ive heard this rumor too, but i cant honestly say that I would go there if it was open. Personally the whole idea is creepy with the " good guys" in shackles. Plus if I was a child I'd probably be scarred for life lol.

Thats exactly how I feel about it. When I goto disney, I want my kids to be happy and excited. Going to this park might scare the crap out of kids. Although my 9year old said "Dad, this will be awsome".

I will say though, I go to Disney every year and last year there was an abundance of villianous characters, which surprised me. Especially Lotsolove. This character tried killing the toy story crew, so to see kids running up to this character was kinda weird.

I highly doubt this guy knows what he's talking about. To talk about a parade with Mickey and Minnie in cages just did it for me. Like others have said, a villains park has been rumored for years. I just don't think they would take Walts Vision of his home town onMain Street and turn it into that.

Soooooo.....What are the odds and how much did you bet?:confused3:rotfl2::rotfl2: There have been rumors forever about a villains park being built, but it isn't going to happen. How can you have the stories and magic if the good guys and bad guys are in different places. I do believe that once they build enough DVC and hotels to hold the additional guests it would require, a new park may enter the plans. It won;t be a "haunted/evil" park though.

Ok this just sounds .... weird.... No offense to the OP! :) Cause if you did hear this, you are just saying what you heard. If you made it up, well that is a different story

I would probably not bet against a 5th park, although its probably not happening, but I would bet against the description of what is going to be like what is stated on the original post. Just seems too weird to me!

They want to attract families not scare them all away when little Johnny and Sally see Mickey and Minnie locked up in chains by Jafar and the Queen of Hearts. The complaints would be through the roof and no one under the age of 8 would be able to go without crying for their parents b/c Peter Pan is being dragged behind the Jungle Cruise boat by Hook and Smee lol. Its not gonna happen!

Hhmm.... I have to say I am kind of torn on this. I think the whole characters in shackles & cages is a bit much, but how cool would it be to have Maleficent's Castle! I seriously doubt it would happen, but some part of me thinks it could be super cool!

A villains area to a park could be done nicely and interesting without being too scary for littles. I think Disney could handle that.

BUT, there is no way mickey is going to be chained up at a Disney park. So, place your bets!

I doubt we will see a 5th gate until Disney addresses some of the issues in their current parks, in terms of more stuff needed in DAK, Epcot, and DHS. Once they get those issues addressed and if the DVC continues to expand and become profitable, then maybe they will look at a 5th gate. I think they they would also need to wait to see how some of the overseas Disneys do and maybe look at one for South America? (Assuming they create a princess born in the rain forest...lol).

Imagineers are paid to imagine, so I am sure there is concept art and rough ideas related to villains that could either become a park or a new land somewhere. The concept itself is actually solid if you truly think about it. I would assume that it would be marketed to families/individuals with older kids or no kids and would be more designed to go head to head against Universal. I doubt it would be be truly scary in the haunted house/halloween way.

But again, until Disney deals with Avtarland, possible SW and Carsland expansion I do not see another gate opening soon,

The mickey and Minnie in shackles is what really made me think no way! I have seen the rumors before and thought it would be cool but l agree it maybe too scary for the little ones! Another reason why this would never happen is because even when Disney throws a Halloween party its kid friendly. "Mickey's not so scary Halloween party"! That would be the perfect chance for Disney to try that idea out and they don't so I doubt they will spend the money and the time on an unsure thing! I hope you put your money down!! I do hope he is correct on the 5th park idea though!! That would be awesome!!

The whole evil thing strikes as unlikely unless as a temporary park event. Sounds unlikely.
However, here is my hair brained idea.
Build a second MK that IS largely identical. Fix the infrastructure issues that might plague the current park, and update with the times/technology. Duplicate many of the attractions, but have some alternates.
During the seasonal crunch times, open the second park to accommodate the larger crowds. During slow times, close one park for extended refurbs.
Open one park for exclusive events like the not so scary Halloween, or a new event like Villains gone wild.
If it proves to be worth keeping them both open most of the year, start to develop more unique attractions to each park.
I'd like to trademark the terms New Magic Kingdom and Magic Kingdom Classic. :rotfl:
Not going to happen, I know. However, if they find that the current MK can not contain current peak crowds, and making that park bigger isn't practical, it really might make sense to double capacity by doubling the parks.

I so agree about adding more attractions at the AK,Epcot, and HS. I love Disney and have gone every year since it opened but they have to add more attractions. They ruined Test Track. Adding a new park is great but take care of the ones you have. Updating is a must.

They have resisted doing this for the last 15 years...

My primary complaint and one that is repeated over and over around here.

New parks make no sense on any level. A new park would pull people from the other four...that is a LOSS for disney. AK and possibly EPCOT - in particular - would lose significant gate. So it would be additional costs/employees to service the same number of people.

Park Cannibalization is the term, and disney has experienced it since Animal Kingdom opened. There are not huge increases in yearly attendance to WDW - increasing...but with kinda a static/population growth type upward tick. There is no bubble to exploit.

Disney is expensive...by and large those that can afford it - already go. Those numbers - at least in the US - are actually probably shrinking. International numbers are probably up - but the economies of places like Brazil, Mexico, and even perhaps Western Europe aren't likely to start pouring money into the "middle class" as we move forward to create more travelers.

There is no point to a fifth gate...none. The existing four are not "overcrowded" by any stretch (contrary to popular - and incorrect - perception). The average length of stay did not go up that much after animal Kingdom was built. because it hit the "7 day wall". The amount of time people have off/ money to travel - at least in the US - is not going to increase.
heck, as what's left of the "middle income" earners disappears or are crunched further (plus longer hours for similar pay, and the decline of the concept of "retirement" as we know it)...they may get smaller crowds moving forward.

Plus enough labor - which they already can't get at the price they want it (below the reasonable minimum earnings line)...makes any other gates nearly impossible until they reduce/ pull staff from other spots. That's done by outsourcing...which has started and will continue where they think they can justify it.

The economics of a fifth gate simply aren't there. And that will not change for quite some time - my guess it never will.
Now...adding new stuff into the existing to maintain draw and PR/marketing momentum - makes all the sense in the world.
And indeed CMB has stated that repeatedly. So it seems they will do that - hopefully at a faster rate than they have for the number of years. Certainly potential there.

Didn't one of the character breakfasts be villian oriented ? I thought I remember reading that and it didn't last long due to complaints. I guess some people didn't like the idea of the Queen of HEarts chasing their little ones around the place.
