We got back from our short four day Disney trip last week. I hope to do a short review of our trip in a couple of days. But in reading some of the threads today I remembered an encounter between a couple and one of the boat captains. (not sure if he was a captain or whatever they call the others)
We've never gone to Disney in July but I have been to Florida on vacation in July at the beach. Overall, we had a fantastic time. It was, of course, super hot and I had just walked through all the countries at Epcot and I didn't feel like walking back to BWI. I thought the boat would be a nice break so I boarded and we waited for others to fill the boat before we took off.
To be honest, it was so hot on the boat I should have just walked. Anyway, an older couple boarded the boat. They may have been foreign because the woman spoke with a pretty heavy accent. She tried to engage the captain in conversation asking questions about where the boat went, etc., and could they just ride the boat and get back off at Epcot. I watched as the CM looked totally disinterested and finally asked the woman, "Why would you want to ride the boat, unless you had to?"
I felt bad for the couple because they looked happy to be there and were just looking for information. The husband got off the boat and engaged with another CM who was working with the boat. I watched as the other captain/CM happily posed for pictures with the couple and just seemed to enjoy talking with them.
I get that it was hot and kinda miserable on the boat but the first CM was literally just standing at the front of the boat doing nothing waiting for the boat to fill. I watched as the first guy who was disinterested in speaking with the couple kept looking to see what the couple and the other CM were doing. Hopefully, he learned something that day. It doesn't take much to give a little magic to people.
