We usually enjoy our stays at the HRH Orlando. You need to accept all the highs with the lows though, and sometimes I continue to be amazed that this hotel has a supposed 4.5* rating.

The highs: it is such a short walk to the parks. The pool and the Beach Club are great. The rooms are big enough and well-appointed. We love the theming and the music. For my birthday, they sent a lovely gift to the room which was thoughtful and unexpected.

The lows: we have stayed at the HRH Orlando 4x now in one year for 23 nights total. Housekeeping is terribly inconsistent. We've had housekeeping try to enter the room at least twice with the "Do Not Disturb" sign clearly hanging on the door knob. Sometimes we get turn-down service; most of the time we don't and have to make repeated phone calls for the service. (Turn-down service is in our profile and is supposed to be automatic when staying in a suite, which we always do since we're Loews First Platinum). I have had terrible experiences with room service food quality as well.

But, this takes the cake: we checked out of the HRH Orlando one morning, and maybe 3 hours afterwards, my husband realized that he left 3 brand new shirts in the room. Brand new as in never even been worn. Yes, we should've checked the drawers more carefully. Upon realizing this, we immediately called the hotel and were put through to security. Security didn't care. I had explained who we were, that we had checked out approx 3 hours ago, exactly what we left behind, what room they were in, and which drawer they were in. Security didn't care, and told me to call back after 6 pm because "that's when things get turned in."

This was between noon and 1 pm, and security wouldn't even bother to check if someone else had checked into the room yet. If someone had, I could see calling back after 6pm. But, security would not even make a call to housekeeping on our behalf.

We called back after 6pm to follow up. It was just a tired, "Nope. Nothing turned in yet. Call back in an hour."

Another call an hour later yielded nothing; only that the HRH would take our information "in case something turned up."

Thanks for all the help. I've left a shirt behind at the Hampton Inn, and when I called, they immediately retrieved the shirt from the room and mailed it back to me at no charge.

The Hampton Inn follows up with guests, but apparently this type of service is lacking from the HRH.

I was annoyed at the complete lack of response from the HRH, and e-mailed their management. I did receive a friendly little note that they would do their best to find the shirts and get back to me. That was a full month ago. Needless to say that was last I heard from them.

I am over the shirts. We absolutely should've checked the drawers (and this is the last time I believe my husband when he tells me he's done so ;) ). However, the lack of caring and utter unresponsiveness from this so called 4* property leaves me just shaking my head.

So, take this word of warning from me: check and recheck the room for left behind items, because you will not get them back. Security and/or Housekeeping plays Finder's Keepers.

Will we stay here again? My husband wants to just to see who he can spot on the grounds wearing one of his shirts ....

Oh my goodness! How horrible for them to blow you off like that. I would not expect something like that from the HRH!

it can happen.

it happened to me last october.

i called a few hours after i checked out and no one could find my running slacks.

here it is 9 months + weeks passed the incident and no one contacted me about it .......

Thanks for the warning. It's a good reminder. Sorry it happened, though.
On one of our stays at the RPR Dd left her school PE uniform behind. When I called about it that night, they said they had it and shipped it to me. That was lucky.

So sounds like either

1. No one wanted your daughter's PE uniform

-or -

2. The RPR doesn't have a finder's keeper policy, but the HRH does.

the op wasn't talking about the rph but the HRH.

they have different managers at each hotel.

It happened to me last month at the Royal Pacific. I left a bag with all of my diabetic supplies and medications. No one seemed very concerned. I am very disappointed in them. Plus housekeeping came in while we were at the parks, and when we came back, our door was open! Nothing was missing. I called the front desk, and she said there was nothing she could do other than a free round of drinks. I told her I would rather she find out who did it, and have a talk with them before someone does have something stolen.

Wow - that is so unacceptable.

When we stayed at a hotel in Hawaii recently (Moana Surfrider) my son left some sunglasses somewhere in the room, and my daughter a cheap bracelet she'd purchased at the flea market. Total value less than $20. We went to a condo for a week after checking out, and a week later happened to be back there to stroll the beach. I asked the front desk if they happened to have found anything in our room a week ago, and voila, a minute later they brought the items to us out at the beach bar! They remembered our room numbers and everything. I was so surprised.

So what happened to those shirts is really sad - sorry to hear it.

This happens at Disney also. Our 2002 trip we stayed at Wilderness Lodge for 4 days.We checked out only to forget my watch 2hrs later.I know I left it on the night stand. We called and they said housekeeping didnn't find it.

Oh well is the feeling I got from them. The bad part it took me 15yrs of bull @ that job to get it.It was not no cheapo eighter($350)!!:sad2:

It seems to me that it happens a lot. Sorry there are others of you that have had the same experience.

i hear you.
i had things missing from my stuff at disney resort.
that is why i started using the TSA locks on my suitcases.

it was 20 minutes after i left disney when i realized my umbrella was still in the disney room. i called immediately.

for some reason they claim it wasn't....

Hey, sorry to hear this happened to you. The same thing happened to us at Port Orleans French Quarter in Disney except it was a cell phone.

We even tried to go back and stuck around Downtown Disney until we heard something. NOTHING.

Maybe there's an unspoken free-for-all policy on your belongings once you checkout?

Same thing happened at a Holiday Inn in Bristol, VA on the way to the beach.(A hotel that my husband stays at once a year for business.)

We were staying 2 nights because of business and they neglected to tell us at check in that we needed to switch rooms after 1st night.

My DD's brand new $75 bathing suit worn just the one time was left on the back of the door. Many calls (within about 4 hrs.) to front desk, housekeeping, and security left us with zilch.

And I am usually one of the ones who checks and double checks before leaving.

Mad at myself for being so stupid. You just can't count on human kindness anymore.

You just can't count on human kindness anymore.

Kindness isn't the issue. Honesty is the problem. If housekeeping or the network of hands these items pass through would be honest, the items would turn up and the owner would get them back.

Here's our best and worst:

Worst:
Our stay at RPR was fantastic, BUT we lost three bathing suits in the process. I left my suit in the locker room at the gymnasium. Came back three hours later to check and am still waiting. And the last night after it rained we put our wet stuff in the dryer. Came back at it was gone. We lost two swimsuits and my running clothes. Security was less than helpful. These were our mistakes -- made more frustrating by hotel policy.

Best:
I left a velvet bag of jewelry (including some keepsakes from my mom) in a drawer as we left the Disney Cruise. I contacted them with little hope of recovery. Three days later they expressed them to me in a box, with a note saying the housekeeper who does final cleanup turned them in! I was amazed. We sent her a thank you and a little something extra!

I think it all depends on the person AND the overall policy of the institution.

That really stinks! My family and I stayed at a Great Wold Lodge Resort
We were at the Pocono Mountains one, they have an indoor water park
Anyway, I had a bracelet on, I think I just forgot it was on, I ususally
don't weat jewelry to water parks. It was less than $20.00 but I loved it

We were back in our room whene I realized I lost it
:scared1:
I looked everywhere, all thru the halls, tore our room apart-nothing
I did tell lost and found and about a week later, after we were home, I
got a call saying the found it in the wave pool and they mailed it
back to me. I was shocked, normally that dosen't happen

Honesty is the issue but don't assume that it is the honesty of the employees. Rooms are often left open after people check out as the housekeeping chores are done so it is possible, although not likely, that someone passing by decided to enter the room.

I left a little something "unsavory" behind at RPR and got a less than thrilling response just last week.

The day we left the hotel, we were at the airport, boarding the plane when my 7yo started complaining that her head itched. I started checking and realized that she had picked up lice on our trip.

I don't know where - could have been the hotel, a ride, trying on hats at a stand, the dirty rental car - anywhere. The point is that I tried to call the hotel and rental car agency so that they could take care of the problem properly before releasing the room/car to another family.
Neither could have cared less. 4 hours after checking out, Dollar told me the car was already gone, and there was nothing they could do.
RPR told me that there was already someone in the room.

When I explained to RPR that the pillows, etc. needed to be removed from the room, they told me that they would "let housekeeping know."
I was really disappointed. We caught it early enough that my daughter was the only person on the trip to get it, and we had it cleared up in a couple of days. But, if someone sleeps on the same pillow that soon after we left, I hate to think of how their vacation ended.

I got the impression that once you've left, you are no longer a concern.

thanks for the "heads" up--I think:scared:

my kids got it from gymnastics a couple of years ago, the best thing is putting olive oil on their hair at night--it suffocates them--you still have to pick out the nits, though. Good luck,

I'd have been ticked off and called the health department. That is just wrong.
