So - the DH who asked in February, "Did we buy DVC yet?" when I thought we were going to wait until Fall 2017 to start looking at DVC, and who said, "we can stay in studios; we don't need anything bigger," is now giving me pushback on this:

We now own 185 points at BLT (25 points direct). Which, by my calculations, would allow us to pretty easily go for a week each year, alternating 1BR and studio with banking.

Now, we have some extra money (looking at tax refunds and other expenses that were less than expected), he is thinking that it suuuuure would be nice to stay in 1BR all the time. And asked me how much it would be to get the additional points? I said $5000, but now doing the math it looks like we'd need 60-70 more points at BLT to have a bit of a cushion.

OR... I said, we get a 110-ish point BWV contract for not that much more, and have 1BR at 2 home resorts, with banking and alternating years.

It's really a difference of $5000 or less, and now all of a sudden, DH is quibbling about this $4000-5000 difference. Sigh.

First rule of sales... When they say yes, quit selling!

I'd vote for your plan B. You'll save $$ and have 11-month access if you want to go to F&W every other year!

I can see why he might be resistant. You moved the goal post and messed with his own game plan. If my husband proposed spending $5K on something and once I agreed, he came back with "let's spend $10K instead", I'd be digging my heels in, too. I would feel like the old bait and switch was being pulled on me.

Why not just let that cash rest some place for a bit? You just got your BLT points. Take a few trips to see how those points are working for you and then decide whether to pull the trigger on a BWV contract or just add on at BLT or maybe even abandon the idea because you find you don't really need more points. It's a seller's market right now. You may get better deals later in year.

We own VGF and BRV for our MK vacations and BWV for out Epcot/DHS vacations. We only stay in one bedrooms and above and feel that this gives us the best of all worlds.

:earsboy: Bill

I guess my concern would be whether you want to pay more dues on 110 points or 60-70 points each year.

When my hubs agreed on letting me do a small add-on to our Poly contract...he need not say more, I was on the phone with our guide the next day lol.

I'm actually going to wait until after our August stay (studios, rented points) to discuss again. One thing that's great about DH is that even if he first says no, he lets my arguments sit for a while and thinks about them on his own time, and then has no problem coming back and saying I was right all along. :D:chat: I agree it's a seller's market now, so we wouldn't look until fall 2017 (as per original plan, lol) at the earliest. I have a feeling that after staying in the EP area again (EP is our favorite park, AND he's a big SW fan), he will think differently. Also 2 weeks in a small space with the kids next month (rented studios + cruise) will have him re-thinking the "studios forever" and even "studios every other year" idea.

Also in the next 2 years we will probably lose one or both of his dad and my mom, and the remaining grandparents are in pretty good health and would probably like to join us on a Disney trip here or there. Which may mean that by 2018, we'll need a 2BR anyway. So it definitely makes sense for us to think about how our travel needs could change in the next few years. We can afford to pay cash and MFs no matter what we end up doing, so my beef about his quibbling is really about why wouldn't you want 11mo booking advantage at EP/HS also. We had discussed the 2 contracts/2 resorts idea back in February when we bought the first BLT contract - the plan was to find the best deal as between BLT, BWV and BCV. I still think BLT was the right choice for our first contract as it was priced well and we went from first offer to points loaded in 6 weeks or something. I have a feeling DH wants to stay in our first "home" resort before taking the plunge on another home resort, and I get that.

Agree - except for the part where I messed with his "game plan." He has no game plan! LOL. He is totally impulse and emotion when it comes to real estate. If it were up to him we'd probably have bought Poly direct with enough points to get a 1BR (ha) long ago. Last few visits at the parks we've stopped by the DVC booths and he's wondered whether we should go for a tour. He is just now understanding how points work, and was inordinately happy with the tote bag we got after our 25-point direct add on.

If you have the time on this upcoming trip, go and see the properties you are considering. Our hesitation with BCV and BWV was the fact that they have a closer expiration date and the ROI isn't great if you ever need to rent because of the shorter lifespan. If you never plan to rent, the second point is irrelevant. Also, I have heard a lot of complaints about the thin walls at BCV, especially lately. I'm a brat and need almost complete silence except for my sound machine to sleep, so that wouldn't fly with me. You're only a month or so away from going, so go and check out the villas if you have never stayed there. Apparently, the front desk CM's will let you look in rooms that are vacant even for the "sold out" resorts. If only I could convince my DH that I needed to take an extra trip to Disney to look around the DVC resorts....I don't think that will fly with him, but I can always plot and scheme. Haha. ;)

I think that's a good plan - we've already stayed in a 1BR at BWV (before refurb; this is what got us started thinking about DVC and we LOVED the boardwalk) and will be in a studio at BCV. As for shorter lifespan, you mean if we ever needed to rent out our points? In the next 10 years we probably wouldn't, just because our kids are young and we are a short and affordable flight away. I could see us selling a contract and buying at a different resort as well, but that's something we don't need to think about any time soon. As for noise, we are city folk, so my kids have already slept through sirens, fireworks, and even a fire alarm going off IN our apartment. If they needed a sound machine, it would have to be loaded with car horns and sirens to help them sleep! LOL.

Yes, I was talking about renting. I have spreadsheets because I cannot help myself. I also like the longer contract lengths for the option to sell if we ever needed to free up the money or didn't find ourselves using the contracts. Longer contract means easier to sell as they approach their expiration date. I don't think that will be an issue if you decided to sell soon, but if you want to unload it in 10-15 years, then you may have more issues with a contract expiring in 15 years or less. However, I think that just needs to one of many factors to consider and not necessarily a determining factor. :)

We own at BLT too and I have already been stalking the EP resorts. DW and I are staying at the Poly for an adults only trip w friends (also DVC members at OKW) for F&W in Oct this year and we have a BCV vacation in a studio with our girls for Spring Break next year. I could see us buying an EP area resort in the next year or two especially with the updates in HS. My original plan was to buy enough BLT points to stay in a LV 1 BR every other year, but it looks like an adults only F&W trip could pop up more than I expected too. I had to talk DW into DVC, but now she is totally into it. But, we are pretty booked with current trips this year and next. It will be 2019 before I have to think about what we are going to do next. Lots of time to research. :)

Agree! We are in the same boat! Except our kids are foodies and young, so we are likely going to do F&W *with* the kids and hiring sitters for the ... ahem ... evenings. But agreed, we are pretty well planned out for 2 trips in 2018 already, and will HAVE to go at least one more time by Oct/Nov 2019 to make the most of our 2 years' worth Platinum Plus passes... ha!

I am also wondering what they may do about the 2042 expiration for BWV and BCV. Not so much for us, as we are old, but if our kids turn out to be Disney lovers as adults. That is a long time from now, though.

For those resorts, I would buy with the idea that we would hold them until expiration and just price accordingly. 25 years is still a long time. But, it would be cool if they did something to extend them.

We have a minimum 1BR policy, ourselves (unless we bring someone else or gift them a room, in which case they get a studio). Then again, I'm mostly Italian and DW is 100% Greek, born and raised in the south side of Chicago, so "quibbling" would be a really relaxing break for us. :thumbsup2:rotfl:

Or how about doing 50-70 at BWV and staying there less than half the time. You should be able to do a 1 BR every trip with part at BWV and part (about 2/3) at BLT. Just get enough to do BWV 1 BR every 3 years for your situation.
