When we were on the Free DDP we had no regress when we had a bad server.Leaving no tip was imposible.Wouldent it be better if on the check before you give them your card they had " rate your service from 10 to 1 " .where 10 was outsdanding and 1 would be crap. The pints would be scored througth a shift and top markers would be rewarded and poor performers.encuraged to get better scores.I Would still tip oop for good service.Just a thought

Actually, you definitely have recourse when you have a bad server. You should immediately complain to the manager. By complaining immediately, the manager can make things right for you: Get you what you're missing, resolve the problem, etc. That is the best possible recourse: Getting what you expect. Beyond that, the manager is made aware of the situation, and can take action to remedy it and ensure it doesn't recur.

Agree here

I agree with bicker. Speak with a manager and remedy the problem. Some people have reported that the manager they spoke with was able to reduce the tip when they requested it and explained what had happened.

Done all that but with the ddp they still get the tip

Not necessarily. Regardless, if the manager resolves your issue, the tip will go to whoever the manager gets to provide you the service you wanted.

Not necessarily so. If the service is truly bad, they have the power to refund your points, in essence giving you a free meal.

It also serves to punish the server by complaining to the manager, thus correcting the problem for the next patron.

.

What anouther free meal on the free ddp:rotfl: still think there should be a better way of comunicating bad service ie not everyone has the guts to stand up for themselfs

I'm sure almost all mature adults are able to stand up for themselves to the extent necessary to get what they deserve at a restaurant! :) That's really not a big concern. If you aren't satisfied, bring it up to the manager immediately, when the manager can make things good for you.

I guess the point I tried and failed to make was that if they lose money by throwing more food at you, it shows a loss one way or the other to the restaurant.

I'm no fan of the DDP in any case. I feel it results in homogenizing the food offerings in order to bring the price down. Offering food "for free" doesn't incline them towards improving the quality of the food. But that's a subject for another thread.

If you want the power to pay or withhold tips as a method of getting what you want from a server, you must either speak up for yourself OR you must do w/o the DDP.

Excellent point. We've come up with a whole host of reasons folks might use to simply choose not to purchase the Dining Plan, and this could be just another one of them. Despite all these rationales, though, it does seem to still be substantially popular and well-regarded.

Great idea :thumbsup2

I also think that it would be a great idea. I like the DDP. It works well for my family. Most servers are excellent and very helpful, they go above and beyond. I tipped additional amounts in cash because I felt that they deserved it. We usually tip at least 20-25%, more if warranted.
On the other hand, we encountered a problem at Sci Fi and I DID complain to the manager. I had to make a request to speak to a manager, made to wait with 4 children and glared at like a criminal. I was polite but straightforward. I told him the problems, and if I was not on the DDP I would not have left nearly the amount of tip that the plan calculated. I was powerless to let the service reflect in the tip and told him that complaining was my only recourse. His response was an apology and that he would speak with the server. THAT WAS IT. I wasn't looking for my credits back, we did eat the food but indeed I was powerless to let the tip reflect the service.

this is much the same as happened to us thats why i thought about this .the idea dosnt need to be just for the ddp but for paying dinners as well.
