Ok, here is a brain storm I just came up with.

With all the buzz about the room decor of the TV Commericial,
what if: (don't be affended if this is your favorite resort, but)

What if they took the mural down in the Contemporary and did it like the room in the commercial as well as redecorating all of the rooms to look the the ones in the commercials? I think that would be the HOTTEST resort going, as well as sold out all the time. I know it would make me try the Contemporary. It just seems like it would soften up the overall feel of the resort and make it more guest friendly.

Just my .02 cents. What do you guys think?

I agree with you 100%::yes:: I love the contemporary but I HATE the decor. I think a major refurbishment is in order!:sunny:

I definitely agree with changing the room decor. It is whats keeping me from staying there. I have heard that they are planning to make big changes to the CR to make it more of a modern look for todays times. I don't mind the mural though. I think its a part of the CR, ecspecially the goat.

Having just returned from a 6 night stay at the Contemporary I have to agree that it needs an overhaul. I like the mural and the monorail and the California Grill but the rest- toss it out the window. I've never paid so much to stay at such a cold (not in temperature but in feeling) hotel. I could have got the same at my local business travelers budget hotel (Ok, well I would not have had the view of the castle but still!). My husband and I think that the decor and layout of the contemporary contributes to the coldness and the odd un-disney like reception from the Contemporary CMs. We were dissappointed with our stay but we had an excellent vacation anyway. I think if they would warm it up with some plants and more community spaces with some comfortable seating in the common areas that would help, but this is not just a decor problem it's gotta come from management too because the cms always seemed way over worked and stressed out, and we stayed on the concierge floor too. It needs help that's for sure.

Just bumping to see what other people think.

I like the structure and look of the Contemporary. I just thought that if they did the decore more like the commercial it might give it that fresh look while still keeping the look. It's like the best of both worlds.

My biggest gripe about the decor of the Contemporary is the original tile that remains in the bathrooms. They've updated just about everything else, but that 1970's "earthy" brown marble clashes heavily with the rest of the decor.

I've never seen the infamous "commerical room" is there somewhere I can see pics? I'm so curious since everyone seems to love it so much.

Earthy brown marble? Every Contemporary room I've had has purple and white marble, mostly purple, that matches the decor. Maybe this is in the concierge?

The contemporary has changed little by little over the years.
I can respect your opinions on wanted to change some things, however I love the CR the way it is. It's all about nostalgia for me. That was the only resort I stayed at as a child. In fact, I've only stayed at one other resort at WDW over 20 years. Next trip we'll be trying another, so that it'll make it a "whopping" (kidding of course) total of 3 resorts.

I flat out love the contemporary.

I actually love the lobby area....watching the monorail, looking up at the hallways. I would have picked that for my next stay, but the colors INSIDE the rooms make me stay away. I love the outside the room areas, but those interiors.....yuck!

I was there last weekend and when I was sitting on the couch, I noticed that "band" that ran across the headboards and thought "they could easily make that like the commerical" ...I guess I am not the only one that has thought about it!

I stayed in a standard room in the North Garden Wing and the marble tiles in the bathroom were black and white. I agree that the bathrooms don't go with the rest of the room. I'm not a fan of the decor either. I would really like to see some photos of the prototype room that's been refurbished.

I've never seen a commercial with the CR in it! I hope I see it soon so I'll know what you all are talking about!

Any input on CR and a room with a view of MK, Cinderella's Castle, Fireworks etc. My first time in CR and want to be able to request a room or rooms that fit this bill.

Any help would be appreciated.

I loooooove the CR -- as does DH. It is our 'home' so, forgive me in advance, because I am probably quite biased. For the most part I do like the decor, but that may be because I am used to it, and it feels like home for us. I also appreciate how the decor reflects the theme, to me that is a part of the Disney Difference. The Contemporary is supposed to be just that 'contemporary'. The shapes, woods, and marble are very 'modern'- Modern decor is not necesarily soft or warm. I sometimes think the purple and teal is a little dated.. but it is very disney, in that it is very colorful. What other color scheme would you choose?

While I really like the character wall/banner/headboard thing in the commercial, I would hate to see CR rooms re-done with that. To me, it does not fit in with the theming at CR... character headboards are more of a All Star or Pop Century - value type theming. When I first saw the commercial, I honestly thought that those were the new rooms at Pop! (I think this was around or before when Pop! opened) I really think you would have a lot of disappointed guests if they remodeled the rooms and made characters a prominent part of the decor. Many guests stay at the CR, because it is more grown-up. If they wanted giant colorful characters in and around their room I'm sure they'd stay at one of the All Stars..

Im with Craig-its all about nostalgia. I love the CR! Also, I dont go to WDW for the rooms and the decor. About the only thing I do in the room is sleep, get cleaned up, and dressed. The rest of the time Im out enjoying the parks!
