Just a silly little TR - Run Away!!

My comment was poorly worded. Everybody knows horses don't eat humans, and as a general rule, don't like to eat anything but vegetation. We tried to get my mom's horse to eat an egg yolk once, and she would not - it was fun to watch, though. My dad's horse ate a 3 foot length of chain while following my dad around the corral one day, but he did it for attention and left one link hanging out (so my dad could pull it out). This was way back when I was in high school.

First of all, the comment wasn't poorly worded. The only thing that was poor was my attempt at humour. I may not know much about horses (Not like the poor fellow below) but I do know that! But... 3 feet of chain!!!

A cowboy walks up to the city slicker who's leaning against a fence, staring into a field.
Cowboy, "Whatcha doin' pardner?"
City boy, "Well, I may not be fully educated in the farming industry and it's relevant attachments, but something has me puzzled."
Cowboy, "What's that?"
City boy, "Well, I'm looking at that cow over there and it doesn't have any horns. I thought all cows had horns."
Cowboy, "Some cows don't have horns, some cows are born without horns and some cows have their horns removed. But the reason this particular cow doesn't have horns is because it's a horse."

Ba dum bum

What a great chapter!

Thanks!

Funny, I read that line about,," I discovered I scream the same way,,,,," a few months ago myself and forgot about it, that's a great line!

 It was probably me that posted it in your TR.

So tell me, is that the Aussie guy you mentioned posing with your kids or the German guy?

German guy, once removed.

Actually, the second I looked at the pic, I thought,
"Uh oh, uh oh I can't believe it, you gotta be kidding me!"
I knew it was inevitable that somebody would compare us, I'm surprised it made it all the way down to Thumperman. But Smidgy says you don't have the big, round German nose that I've been blessed with.

Nope, but I make up for it with the ears.

Again, great report, thanks for sharing!

Thanks again! :goodvibes

Ponzi what an incredible adventure for you and your girls. Al I can say is "WOW!"

Thanks... but the day's not over yet!

Thanks for the space Ponzi. Lady H said she's almost done breaking down your shark adventure. In the meantime, as promised, more pictures of the eclipse taken by Lady H.

If they're interfering with the report, let me know and I'll take them down.

No problem. Great pics! Up here, we only got 60% coverage... and I was stuck inside all day working anyway.

I thought you were Canadian Eh.

Both our fathers were born in Germany... at least I think that's the case with Nebo.

I see you Pkondz!!! ;)

Where!? Did I leave the laptop camera on again? :headache:

Seriously, when I saw the chapter title I thought you were using "surfing with sharks" as a euphemism.

Like "Jump the shark"? Nah, this TR did that a long time ago.

The terror and excitement of you actually doing it hit me pretty quickly though. I like watching sharks on Discovery or reading about them in books, and yes, I even like watching Jaws. But in the water with them. No way Jose!

There are some people that do it without a cage... back in 2008 an Austrian tourist was killed while swimming with sharks in open water. There's adventure and there's dumb. :sad2:

I like the way you casually inserted the picture as well Pkondz. Sharks, sharks, completely cool video of sharks, Pkondz picture.....hey, wait a second....PKONDZ!!!!

I thought about how I was going to do it, then decided the surreptitious way was the way to go.

In the spirit of all the baked goods discussed in the TR, I have a cute little story to share with you guys. My mom likes to bake but within the last few years she has taken to trying to make her baked goodies "healthy". If I want healthy I will purposefully eat veggies or fruit, but if I want something home made, I want it decidedly unhealthy.

My mom brought some strawberry muffins by tonight. They looked great, but she had mentioned that she used wheat flour and "just a smidgen" of sugar. Before I could say anything, DD's hand shot out to take a muffin, but before she could bite into it my mom left. I'm glad she did because I wouldn't have wanted to hurt her feelings, but DD made a "yuck" face and promptly put it back in the bag! :rotfl: To be honest, it was a little on the dry side with minimal strawberry flavor, so I can't blame DD.

Lest you think I am a bad parent, I must remind you that four year old DD is the culprit of the cream-less Oreos in the package for the rest of her unsuspecting family. Thus she learned an important lesson tonight.... bad things can come in good packages!!! ;)

:laughing:My DDs know that if it comes from my DMIL that it's probably going to be horrible... unless it's her apple pie. That's good.

Almost everything else? "The recipe called for 1 cup of sugar but that sounded like a lot so I only put in a tablespoon and it called for 1/2 cup of brown sugar but I didn't have any so I just didn't put it in and it called for milk chocolate chips but all I had was a square of bittersweet chocolate so I chopped that up and used it instead and it called for 2 sticks of butter but I don't know how much that is and I didn't have much butter so I used 2 cups of lard... want some?"

oh puhleeasse!! you made me say "gack!" (ok, not about ponzi), but dana, we have to live with these guys, you know!!!;)

Oh, that's okay. I'd say "gack" too if I had to live with Nebo. :rolleyes1:

ponzi, you guys do kinda look alike. except for the nose. oh, and the ears. but your eyes are alike (oops, you have sunglasses on) but you are both wearing hats, and you both have mustaches!!!:lmao: but you have hairy legs.:rotfl:

Quit looking at my legs, Smidgy. :lmao:

ok ok everyone, they do resemble each other. but not as much as they are alikein their humour or writing style or personalities, it seems.

Yeah, we're both dumb and kinda weird... at least I am.

ponzi, great chapter.. I don't know if I would be that brave. even in a cage, you saw what the shark in Jaws did to that cage!

1. That's just a movie... oh wait...

and I, too, am amazed that you got 2 teen girls to get ready in 10 minutes!!!

You're amazed!

Snickerdoodles! The first batch was a little underdone so I added a couple of minutes and... perfect! The DDs liked the underdone ones better though!

Only problem... they're almost all gone!

Thanks again to GreenAcres!

Mmmmmmm.....cookies.

I am so excited I am finally all caught up!! I found your TR in your signature while reading Nebos, which I am way behind on, but anyway, so glad to see that you are doing it and it is as awesome as I thought it would be!! I had so many comments to make and I kept saying no, I will wait till I get to the end and of course I forgot them by now - so suffice to say I am enjoying this report greatly!! Love your pictures and your dd's are so pretty, and yes I too thought you were a long lost brother to Nebo...

Keep up the great writing, but I am worried that between reading your report coupled with Laura's and Nebo's I will get fired from work - because they may actually want me to do some work and I have my priorities!! The perils of working at a nuclear power plant!!

Oh, wow! Those babies look delish!!! I'm not sure I like how you got us all to give you our cookie recipes only to use them to taunt us with later while we're slaving away at our desks. I can't speak for anyone else but my career is in a cookie-less industry and right now I'm starving! I must have snickerdoodles!!! Ponzi! You look so nice. Torturer!!!

Cookieless office here too. No fair Ponzi!

Oh, why did you have to go and do that! I'm out of Snickerdoodles! DD#2 is enjoying 2 weeks off from college before summer semester starts, and I'm pretty sure I won't be able to con her into making me cookies, because she wants to enjoy her 2 weeks off. Kids just don't understand that they have obligations to their mothers for years and years of baking cupcakes and gingerbread teddy bears, etc., for them. I tend to ramble on when I'm in the middle of a serious cookie craving.

Actually, my dad was born in Chicago. Not so, his parents though, who gave him the wonderfull name,
Adolph Gustav -------.
During WW2 he served as an MP, on our side, but he abandoned the Adolph name in the army,,
"Just call me Johnny".
Grandparents wanted me to be Adolph Jr.!

Thanks mom for putting your foot down.

Nebo! That is too funny!!!! My grandfather's name was Adolph Joseph....also born to German immigrants in Illinois. I have the nose, too, as proof of my German heritage!!! I'm still laughing!

OH MY!:scared1:

I cannot believe you and your daughters actually swam with the sharks. Incredible. The video was scary enough for me! I could never do that - the old shark at the Aquarium swimming in the tank scares me. Good for Elle, for overcoming her fear, no matter how long she was there, she still did it! I think it's good for you soul to do things outside your comfort zone every once in awhile.

Great chapter, as usual.

Busy night ahead so shout outs later. What? Nebo started his TR? Guess I'll just end this one.

We did other stuff, ate food, flew home.

The end.

I'm off to read a TR now.

BTW, made Death by White Chocolate (from nrod)... here's the result (had to take the pic quick before they're all gone!)

Thank goodness for jury duty, gave me a chance to catch up on this TR. thank goodness I just got pardoned from a 37 day trial!!

Well after all this time and all this suspense we finally get the big reveal!! I have to admit tho, with every chapter that went by and the mysterious ponzi didn't appear, your image kept morphing in my mind but I never imagined you looked like Nebo's brother. Nice to meet you!

SWIMMING WITH SHARKS!!!! Awesome, in the true sense of the word! I can't believe you got such clear pictures. Between the buffering and the fright my photos would have looked like:chewy:

Thanks all for the cookie recipes, I have to bake for my sons school party so now I just have to choose which ones.

I missed the Nebo memo too and Laura, if I had known you guys were discussing 50 shades in your TR I wouldn't have waited to catch up on this one before heading over there!!!! I will bring wine too!!

You better not abandon this trip report, mister!

I couldn't believe that I had missed the beginning of the trip report from Nebo. I'm one happy disser. I have 4 trip reports to follow now and all 4 have great commentary from the peanut gallery and great trip reports to comment on.

:flower3:

So I have a confession to make. I hopped onto the TR and read this while at work. I literally laughed out loud to myself, I mean loudly and with complete identification because this is my mom exactly! I mean I lost it for a minute or two, it was so funny!! :lmao:

The really sad part is my mom is an excellent cook and baker when she doesn't try to "health it up" or add nuts to everything! DH won't touch anything she drops off until someone else in the family has been the "taste guinea pig". :sad2:

I really like your sense of humor Pkondz! Thanks for the laugh! :thumbsup2

You do that and there will be land sharks coming after you... Just saying...
And I will be near your neck of the woods soon even :rolleyes1 Just a word to the wise...

And about all the Adolph paranonia, you would have been fine, the bad guy was spelled Adolf. See? Big difference.
