For many years now, we have had a policy on the Rent/Trade Board not to allow discussion about rentals. In the past there were a number of incidents where posts offering reservations ... and posts requesting reservations ... were openly chastized because others felt they were asking for or offering reservations either for too much or too little. At that time, the no discussion policy was implemented since the Rent/Trade board is offered as an opportunity for "Classified Ads" for those offering and looking for DVC accommodations.

The policy is clearly stated in the Posting Rules at the top of the Rent/Trade Board and has generally been followed since it's original implementation.

In the past 3 days we have had a return to vigilante comments in some of the rental threads. Those involved have had their posts removed.

Please refrain from offering editorial comment about ANY rental posts on the Rent/Trade Board. There are several threads on Mousecellaneous and DVC Operations already actively discussing DVC rentals. Those are the most appropriate places for making comments about renting.

There are currently about 12 existing reservations active on the Rent/Trade Board and three of those are for dates within 30 days. The other nine existing reservations (which do not comply with the 30 day limitation) were already in place prior to the start of the policy and have until July 31 to remain - providing they otherwise meet the rules for that board. Several have already been locked for failing to be maintained and those will not be reposted unless they are within 30 days. On August 1, 2007 no existing reservations will be active on the board unless they are within 30 days of arrival.

Thank you!

Great new policy!

I applaud the policy, Doc. It may not make a huge difference, but it IS a statement.

I haven't paid that much attention to changes on the rental board. I think this policy will end one of the main "marketplaces" for DVC rentals but still allow DVC members to help themselves when caught in a bind. I'm guessing a lot of thought went into this decision. I appreciate the decision.

I will put my hand up and say that I was responsible for one of those discussion comments on the R/T board - however, it was not intended to be a vigilante post - I just wanted to be clear about how much the rental would be costing me per point if I decided to rent that reservation. I had noticed my post was removed and now I understand why. I didn't realise it was against the rules so I apologise.
