DS is turning 6 on our next trip to Disneyland. Is bringing his birth certificate enough to prove it is actually his birthday?

I just tried to register him on the Disneyland site but it wouldn't let me complete the process.

We are going for the gift card as we will already have park hoppers - do we just go straight to city hall for the gift card (and birthday button)?

A birth certificate is acceptable, so therefore no problem. The buttons, one can request at City Hall amongst other locations as well. Such as the various Disney hotels, and many of the restaurants, as well as some of the Disney shops.
I am sorry, however I cannot recall right off, exactly where one receives the gift card. However, I believe it is at the ticket window.

A most happy birthday to your son! And I hope that you all have a wonderful and fun time at Disneyland. :)

Yes a birth certificate is great. You can make a copy, make it small and laminate it. Or if your DS has an AP his bday info will be in the system already.
