DD13 has been dancing since she was 3. For the last 2 years, she has been going to a camp that the high school holds for those kids that are in their feeder schools. They teach the girls a jazz and a hip-hop style routine. It's just a fun little camp and gives the girls something to do for a couple hours a day for this 1 week.
About 1, I got a call from the director. Apparently there is one girl that DD goes to middle school with - and she doesn't like my DD - that is also going to the camp and this girl has gotten her panties in a twist and now mommie dearest is targeting my DD as being favored and doesn't feel the camp should be open to those with dance experience. The director just wanted to make sure that neither DD nor I was overly upset with the school and to let us know that DD was more than welcome to be a part of the camp.
Two of the girls on the HS dance team, take dance at the studio with my DD and both have been a helper in DD's classes at one point and time over the last couple of years. These girls know each other - big deal.
Seems that when DD got there yesterday, the older two girls were just getting there. They called out a hello to DD, walked up and told DH that if we wanted they would stop and pick DD up and drop her back off for us, if it was ok that it would be a bit later then the normal quite time, just in case the HS girls work on their routines a bit. SWEET - saves us from doing it and not a problem with what time they drop off. At the same time, the one saw DD's dance bag in the car - recital was this weekend, so she just hadn't taken it inside. The girl told DD to grab it. It just so happens that DD takes hip-hop and jazz at the studio, so she has a pair of shoes that matches what the HS girls wear. The 3 of them walk on into the building. Seems that the mom and girl saw this exchange, but didn't hear what was said - dd said she didn't see them close by.
They go thru the hip-hop routine and DD just wore her regular sneakers, but for the jazz routine, she got out her jazz shoes and slipped them on, just like all the HS girls did. I guess the girl gave DD all kinds of grief about "ain't you so special and someone thinking their crap don't stink". DD just let it roll off her back. But she did tell me what happened. I told her she handled it correctly and don't reply to her baiting. She said Libby and Jordan, HS girls, told DD she did the right thing.
But then we get to today. I guess, when the girls got there this morning, this mom and the girl were already there, waiting. They see DD arrive with the HS girls and are walking in together. This mom and girl walks in behind them, making comments about some people thinking pretty highly of themselves and that if after years of dancing having to settle on a high school camp to get better, it must mean they aren't worth a crap and must be nice to suck up to people to make themselves feel better. I guess, the mom kept a running tiraid all the way into the school. Once in there, she had her discussion with the director. Apparently, she didn't get the answer she wanted, because when camp was over for the day, DD was sitting with about 7 of the HS girls when this mom got there to pick her dd up. Mom was running late, so beside dd, this girl was the only other one there. When she saw, that dd was "hanging" with the HS girls - she went off on my DD and I can't state what all she said because every other word would be ***'d out. Thank god that the director saw the mom walking up to the group of girls and hurried over and heard what was being said. The end result, the mom was told not to bring her DD back and that her money would be refunded.
I am blown away that a mom would get that upset over a 2 hour a day camp. NOTHING done during the camp will help her DD make the squad when she can try out. The only thing that will help is if she puts her DD into a dance school. And after moms performance today, I am sure that the director will keep the girls name on recored as having a physco for a mother and she'll never make the squad - no matter how good she is - just so they don't have to put up with mom.

My daughter would be very upset, if another kid's mom went off on her like that.
