Just a few questions

We are planning our first cruise on DCL. Many questions, but here are a few:

1. We are considering the 7 day eastern cruise on March 20, 2004. Just wondering if we should start out on a shorter cruise, and is this a good time to cruise?

2. We both really want a window. We can book CAT 9 for $2100 for 2 adults (deluxe outside stateroom with large porthole, I believe) which is on deck 2 or a CAT 6 with a verandah on deck 6 for $3000. My questions are is it worth an extra $900 for the verandah and larger room and higher deck? We are pretty frugal, but we do enjoy nice rooms and will cough up the $$ if it is truely worth it. Also, we have a tendancy to be seasick, is the deck level a factor as much as the fact that the room is towards the center of the ship?

3. On formal night, do all the restaurants require a suit for the men? Is there any place you can eat on the ship that does not require a suit?

I would vote for the 7 day. We are also on the March 20 cruise and we have a post going for this date. We went during this time last year and it was a great time to sail, not to hot and not to cold.

Like most people on this board will tell you, book what you think you might want. We like the verandahs and think they are worth the money so we always book a cabin with one, but I do not think this makes or breaks your cruise. If you can get a Cat 6 for $3000 I would like to know where. We have one booked for our parents and it was $3600 in March (this includes insurance). When I looked at a Cat 6 rencently they were over $4000. Some people will disagree with me, but I do not think the location of your room will have that much affect a seasickness.

3. On formal night, do all the restaurants require a suit for the men? Is there any place you can eat on the ship that does not require a suit?

On formal night the restaurants prefer that the men wear a suit, but Disney does not have a strict dress code so they will not kick you out. If you do not feel comfortable going without a jacket you can always eat at Topsiders which is the buffet.

Here's my 2 cents worth.....

Go 7 nights!!! Our first Disney cruise was the 3 night. It went much too fast for all of us. We have done the 7 night Eastern and will be doing the 7 night Western. Our 14yrDD has informed us that we cannot do anything less than a 7 night.

If you can swing the extra $$$, Go Verandah!
We had room service breakfast every morning on the verandah and it was fantastic. But any cabin on the Disney ships is better than no cabin at all.

Having never been in a verada room, I can't say if its better than a cat 9 room. My guess is that you might spend more time "in your room" if you have a veranda because you can sit out on it and enjoy the view etc. With the cat 9 room, you are closer to the water which is pretty cool looking when the ship is moving fast and there are some swells.

The extra room in a veranda room is all outside on the veranda. Other than that the rooms are the same size.

Formal Night Attire
For formal nights, I wear a dress shirt, tie and slacks. Have always ate dinners in the "rotation" dinning rooms. You will see a wide variety of dress on the formal and semi formal nights: tuxes, suits, sport coats, "my dress", and all the way to way to casual (does that look like a swimming suit !!) Don't dress like a slob and don't worry about it - and enjoy the dinning rooms.

With your help, I booked the cruise for March 20,2004. I was able to get CAT 6 including insurance for $3190 (the $3000 did not include insurance). I booked the cruise thru Sams Club. very nice person helped me. We decided to splurge on ther verandah because A. We both work in windowless enviornments and B. This is a MAJOR birthday (mine) and thought 'what the heck'!

And Hans, I did everything you told me to do!

I am glad you booked on the March 20, 2004 cruise. It is going to be so much fun. That is a great price you got from Sams Club. I might have to check it out and re-book the in-laws through them because that would save $500. I look forward to learning more about you and meeting you on the cruise.
