Ok, so heres my story. Sorry if it's a bore. I have been looking on these boards for 10 years! Drooling over trip reports from Ireland to California. I always talk myself out of it because #1 it's pricey and I don't belong to the vacation club. #2 It's price and all of my friends are cheap and i'd have to go alone. It is July and already this year horrible things have been happening around the world. So I have made the temporary decision to just do it. You never know what is in your future why put it off. I was trying to convince a friend to go with me, he said thats a lot of money. I said what do you have to show for all the money you make. He said nothing. There you go. These memories will be worth the money I believe.

Sorry for that!

My questions! I am sure I can find the answers somewhere but I didnt see them on the adventures by disney fact section.

What is the percentage extra for going solo?

After the initial down payment how long do you have to pay the trip off?

And finally I have been eyeing Alaska and Montana ( I dont wanna go out of the country solo until I do it at home ) does anyone have any input on these 2 trips.

I thank anyone who responds for their words! I LOVE this forum, everyone seems nice and helpful.
I also adore reading trip reports!
I hope everyone has a safe 4th of July! Thanks again.

Hi, SnowhiteHeather.

Except for the River Cruises and the DCL Cruise add-ons, the percentage extra for going solo (the Single Supplement) is 40%. So if a trip costs $1000 (I wish!) it costs a solo $1400.

For the River Cruises, the Single Supplement is 100%. (When the Danube cruise first came out, there was a special that had the Single Supplement as 50% for a short time, which is the only reason I'm doing the cruise). This is, unfortunately, pretty common in the cruise industry these days, to make a single pay twice as much as anyone else and really makes cruising not high on my list of vacation choices. A lot of the river cruise companies do offer a lot of specials where they waive the single supplement, so if I like river cruising, I'll have to check out those other companies.

There is no Single Supplement for the actual DCL ABD add-ons. You book the cruise yourself separately, so the add-on really is just per person.

After the initial payment/deposit, the time until final payment is due varies a bit by destination. I believe for most trips, it's 3 months before the trip leaves.

No has taken the Montana trip yet. The trip was just announced in April, and the first departures aren't until Summer of 2017. For me, the first half looked spectacular, but I asked ABD about the Dude ranch half, and really the only activities there are horseback riding and fishing. If you like those, you're good, but if you're not interested in either of them, then you're kind of on your own for the second half of the trip. ETA: Well, apparently I'm wrong, and there are a few departures of this trip in July of 2016. So we may hear something this summer.)

I've taken the Alaska trip, and it's fabulous. Alaska is an amazing place, and this trip shows you the inland parts of Alaska that you won't see on a cruise. I highly recommend it. It's one of the few ABDs that I've done that I will likely do again some day. You can find the link to my Alaska Trip Report in my signature. The trip has changed a bit since I took it in 2009, but it will still give you a good idea of what the trip is like.

I might also suggest that you look at the Arizona and Utah/Grand Canyon trip. It's a remarkable trip, and I still think it's one of ABD's best itineraries.

I've taken 6 ABDs as a solo, and am heading on number 7 in a couple of weeks. Please let me know if there's anything else I can tell you or any other questions you have!

Thanks so much for your help. I have actually read all of your trip reports! And I admire you for going solo! I am a big sissy baby and have to talk myself into it. Arizona does look amazing as well. So does Wyoming. So many choices. I look forward to reading your next trip report! Thanks again for your help. I'll have to debate on the horseback riding thing. I dont think ive been on a horse since I was 10. =X

I understand. :) I've been traveling solo for a long time, but my first solo trip was a bit rough. I think if you're *going* to try going solo, ABD is a really great way to do it. The Adventure Guides are really amazing at making everyone feel like one big family, so you won't feel like an outsider. And most of the people I've experienced on ABDs have been really friendly and accepting, and just really great people to be around. I think it attracts a certain type of person.

I say go for it. Yes, they are pricey, but if you can swing it, I really think you'll find they are worth it.
