I really want to buy something. The weather is cold and I'm stuck surfing random photography sites cherry picking things I want that as of a week ago, I had told myself I didn't really need after all.

Namely...I reeeeeally want a D700. I know that's bad, and quite the impulse purchase, but it wouldn't really be an impulse purchase since I've wanted it before I even got my D90, would it? ;)

I'm thinking after our trip to WDW in February and trip to Mexico in April/May, I'm going to put my D90 and two DX lenses I have up for sale to fund the purchase. But waiting is NO FUN AT ALL and I really want to just buy one now.

Curse you, available credit card balances!! If we weren't trying to be so fiscally responsible this year after having paid off all of our cards, this would be a no brainer! :headache:

That's all....back to lusting over things I want and can't have.

Anyone else care to join in on the fun?

I know what you mean! I keep looking at the Pentax K5. I will get it, but I have to wait. I have the lenses I NEED for the upcoming race season, but I really need the lowlight continuous focusing of the K5. My next trip to WDW is tentatively scheduled for the end of November/early December. So I have that time to get the Sigma 30 and an UWA. Unfortunately, I have the same affliction of the little girl from Willy Wonka, " I want it NOW!"

Oh I'm with you. I took my camera into a store the other day to confirm that it was the lens that was shot, not the body. Well it was, but the wonderful person who helped me happened to test my camera with one of their beautiful 18-200 VRII lenses. Trouble is my budget dictated that without running up anything on the credit card, I was buying the 18-105. But oh, did that shiny new lens look good on my humble little D40 :lmao: Three days later and I still see it whenever I close my eyes. :rotfl2:

Helpful Idea #1) Get thee to a library or book store and occupy thy mind with a photography book! Book = $30.00 D7000 = $1300.00

Helpful Idea #2) Write D7000 on a sticker and place it over the spot that says D90. When people give you odd looks (and they will) just ignore them. Denial ain't just a river in Egypt!

That's it, I'm out of 'Helpful' ideas.

I want a new camera to but I don't have enough pennies saved up for a D300 yet.

If only it were the D7000 she is lusting over ... b u t ..... she is wanting to make the jump to full frame and a D700 ... its a bit more than the 7000 and ooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh how I can relate to the bite of that bug :rolleyes1

I agree with the book advice. My brother got me "The Photographer's Mind" for my birthday which was Dec. 30th. It was written by Michael Freeman and is the companion book to "The Photographer's Eye" which I also have. I am thoroughly enjoying it.

D7000 conversion kit

I went to Staples and purchased the 3M D7000 conversion kit. Basically, you crack open a pack of post it notes, write D7000 on one and apply it to ANY camera! It works like a charm. Imagine how jealous all your friends will be when they see you rockin the latest from Nikon!

Oh I see..... Well the Handy Dandy 3M conversion kit will transform anything you want into a D700! :woohoo:

I know I have been wanting a Canon 7D but its not like I "need" it so to speak.

I can spend an hour or so looking through the B&H catalogue, then going online and seeing current cost...then closing out the screen.

Is this a whining thread? If so, I would like to whine about the fact that I would love to get into portrait photography but have absolutely no confidence in my abilities. This causes me to just sit on my steadily growing backside and do nothing. I just don't have the drive to give it a try, fearing failure. Stupid huh? Well, it is my whine of the day.

Ann I am with you about wanting a D700, but....... I have reconciled myself to wait to see what replaces the D700. Seeing the quality of the D7000 and what it can do, I am anxious to see what replaces the D700. Who knows I might look at what replaces the D3.............

Marlton Mom, you have had me in stitches tonight :lmao:

If you lust after anything for long enough, you eventually discover that you 'NEED' it ;)

This had me-:lmao::rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2::lmao:

Annie, I soooo feel you. I talk about the D700 DAILY. Saving my pennies and have considered selling a kid...:rolleyes1 I keep chipping away at the hubby and have been blatantly encouraging him to find something he must have for his hobby. I'm pretty confident I'll have it within the year but man, I WANT IT NOW!!!

I want the replacement for the D700. Right now I'm saving up for the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8. I should be able to get it in March. Next up either the 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII or the D700 replacement. I'm finding the I do a lot more standard focal length shooting. Candids, portraits and landscapes and not as much longer focal length shooting (ie: Sports). I have convinced myself that it is the D700 replacement that I want. I figure that will have HD video and now that I have had my iMac for close to a year, doing video stuff is SOOO much easier. I've been getting more and more into Portraits and the volunteer events I do for the MDSC are mostly standard focal length stuff. Plus its getting time for the D700 to be replaced sometime this year (I'm guessing). I can only guess what the newest specs would be... HD video, 20+ MP, faster frames per second, 100% view finder, better sensor and meter..... where is the drool smiley... LOL

I can understand camera lust. I've been drooling over the Canon 5D Mark II. Full-frame sensor! 21 mp! I so badly want one, but I don't want to part with my 50D. I sold my 20D after I bought my 50D and I can't bring myself to do it again.

I've got both of those here with me at WDW now. :) Appropriately enough, I read the chapter on shooting cliched subjects on the plane ride here!

Were I in the Nikon world, I would be anxiously awaiting the D300s replacement. The new Sony sensor in the D7000 and K-5 is really, really, really good. I doubt that Gdad's D700 has been apparently gathering dust while he runs around with the D700 because of it's less advanced user interface. :) The D300s replacement will presumably use the same sensor... which, as you probably know, can beat the D700 sensor in DR, can virtually match it in high ISO capability, and oh yeah - is 16mp instead of 12mp. Of course, you need better glass to take advantage of it and you lose the ultra-wide framing and DoF of full-frame... but you lose those with FF vs MF, too.
