My wife just receive a summons for federal jury duty. We will be on the Magic when she suppose to report for service. This trip was planned and paid for last year and I was wondering will she have a hard time having them change the dates? If they do not change the date will she get in trouble. I know that the federal courts are a lot different than the local ones?

I'm sure if she shows your paperwork she should have no trouble being rescheduled. I know they are very flexible with one change. If she comes up with a problem with the second date, that may be another issue.

I agree with the poster above. You can apply for a deferment until a later date.

She should have no problems at all. My BF had jury duty this winter during a bad storm and did not want to risk driving. He called and explained and they told him he was all set.

As long as you have not done it once before in that year. You can even request what date you would like.

I was summoned for federal jury duty last year. Got the paperwork from the courts and the date to report. I called like I was supposed to a couple of days before and they said I was not needed. Maybe they won't need you.

Same thing happened to me. I faxed over a request for postponment and they granted me my request. My federal jury duty was for August and my cruise is at the end of this month but I was granted a postponement and reschuduled for jury duty in October.

I was called to jury duty when I was supposed to be on vacation too. I told them that where I was going and that my trip was already paid for and they just rescheduled me.

in illinois if you call and say you can't make it they will reschedule you in about 6 months. You will receive another summons. I had to reschedule twice in one year. the first time i was due to have my daughter around the date i was scheduled to report to jury duty and i called to let them know and it was no problem. 6 months later i don't remember the reason but i couldn't make it again they told me they would send another summons in 6 months and it was no problem.

I read this post yesterday. I'm forty years old and have never been called for jury duty. Well guess what.........my husband just asked me if I had seen my jury summons which arrived in yesterdays mail! And it's during our upcoming cruise! I'm so glad I read this post or I would have been extremely worried.
