I just came back from doing my civic duty and going in for jury duty(I didnt get picked they only needed 6 out of the 100 or so that showed up)Me and the 6 men who were seated around me couldnt believe the excuses people come up with to get out of this.ONe guy didnt trust the judicial system and wanted to approach the bench to discuss with the judge(he excused him)the number of people who apparently cant understand the English even though it asked this on the preliminary questionnaire and apparently there are alot of people going away in the month of February,LOL.We figured enough people were going to be excused that there were only going to be 6 left,LOL.

I guess I will just have to wait until next time to get picked.;)

I also went for jury duty on Jan 5 the day after we got back from Florida.
There are lots of opportunities to get out of it easily if you really want to.
They would ask ...who can't hear well.....who doesn't read English or speak it well......who has health reasons, some crazy reason eg. diabetes, blood pressure....
It was an assault case and they asked anybody who was assaulted or knew someone who was....you could go up and say ....yeah, my brother was assaulted back in 1975 and they would let you off.
I got chosen to go up and be looked over by the lawyers. The one lawyer said okay and the other one didn't like the looks of me, so I got off.
I guess he didn't like my Tinkerbell sweatshirt??
I honestly think it might have been an interesting thing to do. I read in the paper afterwards that the accused got very upset after he was declared guilty that he started attacking people in the court room:eek:

I guess the jurors never have to wonder if they did the right thing, eh??

Nope, wouldn't please the Court to be sprinkling pixie dust everywhere:p

I had to go a number of years ago for jury duty but didn't get picked for a trial -- it was just before Christmas and there wasn't much going on. Since I now don't qualify to sit on a jury I was kinda disappointed.

I've never even been called up for jury duty....I too think it might be interesting. but Dh says they'd reject me:( , ...........something about me having too many strong opinions:o

You know what MaMudduck, they didn't even ask me one single question or anybody else for that matter.
They called us up, said juror look at the accused, accused look at the juror and then they decided if they like the look of you or not.
I thought that was pretty weird, they really have no idea what kind of person they are getting going only on looks
