Jury duty....

That is so weird. I just got a jury duty summons in the mail today too. I live in Monmouth County. I don't want to go! It's for the end of February. I am a nurse. Maybe they will let me not go because of that! It is worth a shot. I am afraid if it goes to trial my work would make me take vacation days. I will have to look into the policy. :(

They can NOT make you take vacation days, it's the law in most states. If your work suggests this, you should fight it for sure and have them contact the court like another poster suggested.

I don't know about your state, but we're allowed to request a postponement. I got my THIRD jury summons in just over a year!! Two were for our county court and the one coming up the weeks of January 11th & 18th is the federal court in Tacoma. This is a postponement from October. It seems like there should be a better system that asks for volunteers who would actually like to be on a jury to be put in a pool (I'm sure there are enough of them) and then if they can't fill the juries, go to a general pool. I'm sure this is unconstitutional, but I'm grumpy that I've gotten 3 jury summons in such a short period of time when there are people out there who want to be called and have never had their name chosen.

This might make you feel a bit better. I'm living in Orlando working for Disney doing a internship and our parish (louisiana) ordered me to Jury Duty. LOL :D Thank the lord my cousin is the one who sends these things out and can help me out. But it was pretty funny to get my mail and see that.

I got called once for jury duty because of my very french sounding last name. Turned out it was for a high profile bilingual (I think I spelled that wrong) drug trial in our province and when I called to say I only knew about 12 words of french they excused me over the phone.....that was more then fifteen years ago and haven't heard from them since. Not that we're the crime capital of the country though :) :rotfl:
