junk car?

Does anyone know of a good place to get rid of a junky old car? I have seen ads in the past for giving to charity and in return getting like 2 night hotel stays and things like that. Has anyone ever done this? Is it a scam? I can give it to the local junk yard for like $50 (I think). Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks.

When we junked my Neon out the junk yard paid $500 for it and towed it away. Call around to different junkyards. You can give it to charity and get a receipt and I believe get a tax deduction but make sure it is a reputable charity.

Definitely a possibility! Unfortunately, I just missed this program by a few months.

When the motor in my Lincoln Towncar's engine threw a rod, I decided I was tired of working on the car (had had some other issues as well). I was going to donate my car to one of the charities (American Diabetes Association - http://www.diabetes.org/support-the-cause/donate-your-vehicle.jsp). There are others as well. You can use it as an income tax deduction.

I didn't actually complete the transaction though because a young man came by and asked if I would sell the car to him. He already had a motor that would fit in it, he was handy mechanically, and his family was really cramped in the little car they had. I sold it to him very cheap, he had it towed, and I've seen them driving it around town since then, so it worked out for them.
