Is it true that will replace the ride with a restaurant? Shouldn't they have more rides and less restaurants? I miss the old ride where the captain of the vessel would shot the hippos despite it not being green? Still hippos wriggling their ears was realistic on how they do attack people? Why would they have close it because it was not political correct? Aladdin is political correct?

Walt Disney World is famous for its balance of varied dining opportunities as well as its great attractions. Magic Kingdom is known for not having a big enough supply of traditional dining experiences. The Restaurant they put in the veranda will service those needs effectivly. Expect for it to be fun, and to have a great menu. With that said, there are currently no plans whatsoever to replace The Jungle Cruise. You'll be able to visit Jungle Cruise today, tomorrow, and in a decade. The Restaurant is going in the veranda. A totally different area away from the Jungle Cruise. There have been rumors that it will be a Jungle Cruise theme. We'll see how that turns out.

As for wiggly eared hippos, I'm not an expert on that. Does an old timer have an explanation?

I am glad to hear that the Jungle cruise isn't being replace.:thanks:I wonder if they are going to make Space mountain theme cafe or a Big Thunder mountain one.

Rant Warning: Ugh! Ok, with an opportunity to do a Pirate Themed restaurant, in Adventure Land, they are going to do a jungle cruise themed restaurant? what? (yawn -antiquated ride should of been replaced a long time ago). Seriously? There is no restaurant specifically themed for boys!!! There are the one size fits all ones and the princess ones, come on! There needs to be a pirate themed restaurant in Adventure Land.

Id love a pirate themed restaurant and who knows, it may still happen at some point, but I disagree with you on the rest.

Jungle Cruise is still a favorite to a lot of people, so I think this is a good move.

I'm a father of 2 boys, so i understand the comment about lack of things for boys, but I also think this is a step in the right direction for us.

I think you should follow the news round up thread because you would find all of this information there.

No, its not true. The Jungle Cruise Attraction is not changing. They are opening a restaurant near the Jungle Cruise in an underutilized space as you cross the bridge from the hub on your right when you enter Adventureland.

The original restaurant has really good food. There was a hamburger I believe called the Polynesian around 1979. It had a pineapple slice and soy sauce was available as a condiment. It was delicious.

I'm a lady and I'll buy your rant MAD4DIZNE. Not mad at cha. Makes sense!

They have Tortuga Tavern (previously known as El Pirata y el Perico) in Adventureland.

The original spiel for the Jungle Cruise, which was less jokey than the one today, used the line as you entered the hippo pool (and I'm paraphrasing from memory):

"Ah, a rare pool of bathing hippos. Don't worry folks, it's perfectly safe. You know they're charging if they start to wiggle their ears."
Hippos wiggle ears.
"Oh my! Well, we'll just have to fend them off!"
Takes out gun BANG, BANG. Hippos go back under water.
"Looks like we're out of danger."

The skippers now rarely make jokes about hippos wiggling their ears anymore, but the hippos still do it. Check it out next time. However, they do still occasionally fire the gun at them to 'scare them off'.

To the topic of the thread - I love this idea. Pirates wouldn't be a bad idea, except that if you were going to do that, you would have to do it at the already existing (and already pirate themed) Tortuga Tavern.

A jungle cruise themed restaurant is PURE GENIUS!!!!! What a wonderful idea! The cruise is so beloved by Disney fans. Imagine what they could do with this restaurant if themed properly. The entertainment could be fantastic. I think this decision was made because Disney learned from Be Our Guest that restaurants properly themed to a beloved property will become extremely popular almost like a ride.

If they do it right, as I think they will, expect this to book far in advance as BOG does.

Pirates are so yesterday and ubiquitous. Jungle cruise is unique and very popular. And maybe they will eventually do the Jungle Cruise movie.

So only boys can be pirates and girls can be princesses? How 1960s of you.

Here's to raising kids who can be anything they want and not have to worry about things for "boys" and "girls".

Kinda hard for a boy to be a Princess last I checked.

I don't believe I said in my post that boys or girls cannot be whatever they want to be. My family likes pirates. I didn't mean to offend anyone because my family likes pirates, sorry if that offended anyone, but my boys don't like to go to princess meals and that is ok too. To each his and/or her own. Pirates out.
