Jungle Cruise Breakfast

This event looks like a lot of fun. It's way over my price range but I think it's neat that some people will get to experience it. Just because one person spends their discretionary income a certain way doesn't give one the right to get all preachy and judgmental. Some people need to chill out and go have a Mint Julep.

Because of the staff required?
Yep. There's a lot which went into this. The upfront planning costs were likely in the tens of thousands of dollars in salaried employees just to plan it. Then you have the fixed, sunk costs of the tables/chairs/linens/costumes/cooking setup. THEN you have the incremental costs for each event in CM salaries, food, setup, and cleanup, and the treasure you get at the end. All in all, I'd be surprised if Disney is making anything on this.

Ok, that sounds like a fair price considering everything you mention.

Hmmm...I'd be wary of throwing too much extra costs into this particular event's budget. The salaried employees are there regardless of whether this event happens or not. Granted it takes staff time to plan but still.. As for the tables/chairs/linens/costumes - those are sunk costs like you said. Disney does catered events all the time and have all these items already. I'd give you the incremental costs of delivery, linen cleaning, setup, etc as well as the CM salaries and event setup and cleanup.

I still think $300 is rather outrageous - but if there is a market and ppl willing to pay it....more power to Disney. I have no problems with companies charging what the market will bear....especially in luxury purchases like this.

And even if they are just breaking even, they are fueling their fandom and creating a culture amongst their fans so they are willing to pay for upcharges like this. If they hold more "special events", economies of scale will mean they eventually start raking in big bucks. So I wouldn't feel sorry for them or that $300pp is not a massive profit (if not now, it will be later). Whether it's worth it...that's entirely up to the purchaser.

While true, their efforts would be spent on other things. Opportunity cost isn't free after all....

The chairs were definitely in the style of campaign furniture. I'd be curious to see where else they would have been used at DLR. DAK, maybe, but they seemed specifically themed.

At $300/fully packed breakfast that would be $9600. Given the number of CM involved, it was running into the thousands just for wages.

I think it's possible that they're making a profit if you factor in park admission, hotels, souvenirs, etc. for guests who are only visiting the parks because of the event. Given the price of the event they could probably spend more money than the average guest.

I'm still surprised no one is sharing any photos. Did I miss them? Or were they not allowed?

The price point could be a test. Disney has done things before where they offered something to gauge interest, and then the next time the price went up because it was clear people would pay more.
