I am taking my 2 children (DD4 & DS7) to DLR in June (by myself--DH has to work). We had planned to be at DLR and CA June 11, 12 and 13 but now that I'm reading about the lines due to Nemo I'm not sure that will be best for us. Would it be best to go to CA on Tues. June 12 and DL on Wed. June 13 and Thurs? What can I anticipate in terms of crowds? I was trying to avoid the weekends based on what I've read here. We fly in on Wed. June 6 and were planning to visit friends first but would it be better (less crowded) to vist DL first on Thurs. June 7 and Fri. June 8? I thought the kids would be more tired from the flight (east coast) and would enjoy DL more if we went later.... :confused3

If you do not want to ride Nemo DL will be more manageable the week on June 4. I do not think DCA will be affected very much so either week will be roughly the same.

I agree with Hydroguy.

But I thought the title of your post was funny avoiding Nemo vs finding Nemo :lmao:

Yes me too! If riding Nemo is not a deal maker/breaker I would for sure go earlier in your trip. That ride is long awaited and you can bet the crowds will be out in full force.

I am thinking the excitement of seeing DL will perk up your kids, even after a long flight! If at all possible I would change. Nemo will be there for a later trip, and once the newness has worn off won't be the crowd magnet it will be this summer.

Yeah thats what I decided. Im going from June 3-13th. I tried to pack in as much of the earlier week as I could before Nemo opened just cause I dont wanna wait inline for Nemo. As much as I would like to I dont plan to stand inline or see Nemo this trip. The hype will wear off just like any other ride. I expect the crowds to be NUTS during opening day and weeks after. Nemo will just give you a reason to book a trip back :)

Ha--totally unintentional but thanks! :)

I'm thinking that we may enjoy 2 days of less crowded parks more than 3 days of very crowded parks.

Well, I have to admit if my trip was in the June 11-12 time frame it would give me pause. And I am just musing here and not saying anything about the OP's decision which I am sure is right for her.

Its a funny thing but I was never too crazy about the old submarine ride - which I remember riding ...cough, cough... 35 years ago. My oldest two remember the sub ride from 9 years ago (before it closed), and they have good memories of it. But with the re-opening of this ride - and the $100 million spent on it (the same amount spent to build Expedition Everest at AK from scratch) - there is no way we would go to DLR and miss it. I would probably add on an extra day to the trip and just make it work if we were in the June 11-12 time frame. Fortunately we are not.

In summer 2005 we visited DLR two weeks after Space Mtn re-opened. Similar to the subs, I was never too excited about the old Space Mtn. Except none of my kids had ever ridden it. Well, the new Space Mtn blew me away. I am ready to be blown away by the new sub ride.

Everyone has to set there own priorities, but there is no way we could miss this ride even with the long lines. We will be there the last week of June and will ride it at least once. I think I have it figured out how to get a second ride in without a huge wait.

We will be there June 10-12. We made this trip plans and hotel reservations back in Jan when we had no idea about the Nemo ride opening. I am hoping that it won't be any worse crowd wise than it was the week after New Years. They were closing the park at about noon each day and extended the closing by 1 hour because of the crowds. It wasn't so bad though so maybe I'm just used to So Cal crowds.

My 17 year old is excited that she will get to ride Nemo but I told her, it could be a VERY long wait!
