My birthday is at the end of June, so we will probably be in the parks for a few days of June and a few of July, or all very early July. :] I've heard that this is not the best time for Disney, but my family has weathered the parks twice in July before when my twin and I were younger and much more prone to whining, so I think we'll be okay.
Our party will most likely consist of six people--my mom, my dad, my twin, a friend of hers, and a friend of mine (my girlfriend). My parents are accepting of the relationship (as are hers), so no problem there. Anyway, I have a few questions, and I feel best asking fellow GLBTers. I'll repost the more general ones in other areas if nobody here can help me out.
1. Best place to stay when you have 6 people? We definitely want to stay on Disney property. Last time we stayed at ASMusic and loved it, but I really wouldn't mind checking out a moderate or deluxe this time. However, I'm thinking we'll probably need two rooms, if not just for the extra beds, then because having two showers would be a lot more convenient. I doubt my parents want to splurge on a hotel when their money could be better spent in the parks, so it's likely we'll end up in two rooms at an All-Stars resort. I've checked out the ASMusic family suites and my mom thought it sounded like a good idea, but then I found out that one of the pull-out beds is only "junior" sized. :l So, do two rooms at a value resort sound like our best plan?
2. If I am not 18 for the entire duration of the trip, will it effect much of anything? Will Disney want to see an ID to prove that someone staying in the second room is at least 18? Is there anything in the parks or Downtown Disney that you need someone 18 or older to do?
3. The last time I went to Disney, it was probably around 2003. What new things should we check out? I'm sure my parents will enjoy the fact that we are older now and they won't have to spend every moment of the vacation with us. My twin and I also don't agree on an itinerary one hundred percent of the time. So, what are some fun and possibly romantic things I can do with just my girlfriend? She will still be 17 at the time of the trip, so we can't do anything that requires both of us be 18 or older.
4. We will definitely all go out for dinner together, but if just once, I want to go out to a late lunch or dinner with just my girlfriend. Is there a good restaurant in any of the parks that anyone can recommend that is nice without being too pricey and would take a well-mannered eighteen and seventeen year old seriously? We don't make ridiculous amounts of noise or act in otherwise wildly inappropriate manners, and I don't stiff the waitstaff.
5. I think getting bridal mouse ears would be a cute way to show that we're together without offending the other guests with public displays of affection (although we will probably still hold hands). Have any of you guys worn these (or the groom ears) and received any nice comments from cast members? I don't expect any "perks" since those are for people who actually engaged or married, and because of our ages, I doubt that anyone will actually think we are getting hitched.
6. This will be my girlfriend's first trip to Disney since she was a little kid, and from the sounds of it, that trip wasn't very memorable. I want to make this special for her, so I've been considering having a gift basket delivered to our room once we arrive at the resort. My twin and her friend are both bisexual and very liberal and won't care in the least. What would be the best website to do this through? If I decide to get the bridal ears, I want the basket to include two pairs and some sites I have seen only offer arrangements with one pair for a bride and another for a groom. I thought it would be nice to include some flowers, but I haven't seen a site that offers that along with the mouse ears. Another of my motivations for this would be that I don't want to be sidetracked in the parks by having to locate and buy the ears there.
7. Has anyone read Queens in the Kingdom? Is it worth buying?
Sorry for the length, and thanks for any replies.
