June, July, August PLANNING thread

When you enter the park you are given a "P&P Map" listing what is open etc. It doesn't have a specific time on the map, but I do remember seeing restaurants closing up around 6 - the party officially begins at 7 or 7:30. CMs walk around asking to see wristbands from 6pm on - anyone without one is told they need to begin leaving the park before the party begins. If you are there a few hours before the party starts (we are allowed in from 4 or 4:30 with our P&P tickets) you would have plenty of time to do everything that closes up early. We did notice a lot of people who were there for the day left after the afternoon parade so the crowds really lessened as well.

Hey MKY: Keeping my fingers crossed for you. I know how stressful it is waiting. I am waiting on flights and it is making me crazy. Last year we booked on June 11 on the first Ding fare that came out for SW. This year the first Ding was more expensive than a regular fare. I booked last night and paid $353 for one way (5 people). Last year we paid $564 for round trip tickets, all 5. I was nervous that prices would not go down so I grabbed that. For our trip home, the only affordable flight is at 7:00am. There is no way I can get everyone up and ready for ME at 4:00am. I am going to have to keep my fingers crossed for that too.

MKY: Best of luck with the AP Rates. I have to keep an eye out as a friend is going in August. I didn't do so well for you last year considering you called me!! I guess that tells you what the first day of work is like. Thanks for the help on the heahaches. I think it was canned chicken that I ate. Makes sense.

TP2: Airfare...it's painful! I looked for this December compared to last December and it's HALF of what we had to pay. OUCH!! But, we can't go this year so oh well...

I have my first class DONE!! One more on the 25th.

EE22: Your countdown is almost 1 year. Not too bad. And I agree that I should not complain about flights, at least we are going. It is just such a gamble, wait for prices to lower or lose your flight.

We still have the rest of this week and all of next week in school, not that they are doing anything. Everyday is a field day, picnic, or ice cream party. I guess they are done and just collecting some funding.

Todays field day got rained out. I am considering going back to Disney Store to scope out more stuff. Am I crazy? DH mentioned that he wanted the girls to wear matching clothes this year so we can find them easily. Gotta go get DD8 ready for school.

Tomar knows this, but we are looking into buying DVC. It's the most radical, non rational thing I've ever thought of. Maybe I'm having a mid life crisis

That drives me bats about the end of school!! Our state wants more days added. How about we use the ones we have and see what happens? It drives me nuts with the time we waste at school on non school stuff.

EE22: I am thinking about buying into DVC too. DH is not, but I am. I would love to buy in, the sooner the better as far as pricing goes. And if there is ever a year you don't want to go (not very likely) there will always be someone willing to buy your points. I think you should go for it. Good luck!

I guess I should just go for it. After all, we finally bought a car for it's beautiful color rather than one that doesn't show dirt I love my car...sapphire blue...I get so many comments on it even when it's dirty
I'm just such a practical person and this is so not like me.

I know many say only do it if you don't finance, but I don't have 16,000 laying around, but I could pay it off before DS hits college I would not want to suck our savings down to nearly nothing either. I'm a teacher for goodness sake!!

Let's face it...with AKV now opening and my family won't stay anywhere else I can't see paying those room rates and they aren't offereing discounts at that hotel and I think rooms will be harder to get in the future.

I need to leap while I'm in the leaping mood!!

I totally agree about leaping. This winter DH was really rolling on renovations on the house. We need a new bathroom and I figure better keep him going. I was ready to take out a new credit card with low interest just to keep him working. We have not needed the card yet but I know the feeling. You will be so happy in the end. Just think about how much you spend each year to stay at AKL. This way you own part of it.

Anyone who has been to the parties, I have read that you can enter the park at 4:00pm. Do you need an ADR to enter that early? Do they check anything other than your party tickets? If so I will make sure to make a reservation, otherwise I am going to stick to my plan of CS.

No ADR needed. You show your party tickets to enter and you will be given a wristband to wear. If you use admission tickets to enter before 4pm then you need to find the CMs with the wristbands to show them your party ticket(lineups throughout the park) Anyone not wearing the wristband is asked to leave before the party begins. They have limited the amounts of TS restaurants open - so to expect everyone at the party have an ADR would be crazy!

Well congratulations! It makes sense, is actually practical, and a better buy. With Contempary going dvc, I would jump on it, if I was joining. TP2, I thought you guys had some tix from last year? or maybe I am confused? I have not done dings, We bought our air about 6 months ago, and did nov too then. Best from here runs about 200.00 each (rt) if your lucky. I am pretty close.

We are also looking for a better rental car rate. With gas prices hoping rates for cars would drop, but haven't so far. Sis just got a handicap placard for parking, we will take it with us. I knew her bad knee would come in handy. Maybe now, I will be able to talk her into that wheelchair she needs. She seems to be getting more used to the idea, the more we talk about it.

I checked disney & expedia last nite, and august is really booked up. I have a feeling that AP rates might not come at all. I can live with that, but I better get one in n/d.

The family of four from the Field of Dreams now own DVC at AKV or we will soon. The papers are in the works. Can't wait. I actually had to decide without much wait time since for next summer I would have to call to make a reservation the end of July so I need the paper work done. It would seem rather lame to not stay using our points once we laid out all that cash for next summer.

I looked into driver's ed and DD could do a short 3 week class, an even shorter 2.5 week class or even take it the fall of her sophomore year since she wouldn't be in sports at that time. She isn't ready to drive. No sense of danger and thinks the Indy Speedway is real. 14 is too young to drive and there is a huge difference between her and DS.

Frankly, I need something to get me through the next 13 years of teaching the next 4 will fly by with the kids, but after that, I need something to plan, look forward to, etc. I say we will move to FL to retire, but it really does depend on where my kids land when they finish school (hopefully finish school).

The chicken was canned chicken...really dumb of me not to think of that. DH bought about 20 cans too, but he can eat it and likes it in salads. Whenever I try to be healthy, I cause myself troubles.

I hope your sister's knee does okay with the Mouse. I bet when she gets tired she will use the wheelchair. I've thought about it and I don't have a bum knee!!

I am so excited. I know now that DH HAS to go to WDW. I sort of thought he wouldn't after the kids were gone. And, I told him last week that with my allergies there is no way I'd ever go overseas or something I didn't know well. He talked about Hawaii. When we went to DC it was a real issue. Almost all places there served seafood and I can't eat it. It was annoying and now if you throw in processed meats and cheeses...I can't go back there! Several of the places we ate...that's what I had.

Next June or July

This is the most irrational thing I've ever done in my life.

My mind just doesn't allow for this kind of thing. I think of really bizarre things...like what if there is a 3rd World War and I need that money to buy my way out of a bad situation? really...I thought that. I watch too many movies. Then I thought...I don't have that kind of money just under my mattress so what is your problem?!?! See why I like Eeyore. I'm a half full kind of person when looking at a situation. Very odd I am.

We are going to guess on what week to go. I'm thinking around the 4th since coaches are so use to families being gone and the school camp for DD helping with basketball will be over and it will be before the football camp that DS will attend later in July. If we have to move dates in the winter, it might be an issue with the limited space in 08 but worse case...we could stay somewhere else for one year and the family will just have to deal!!!

I just couldn't go back to work without something to look forward to!! NO WAY!!!

MKY: I have $500 in travel vouchers. Last year it was $564 round trip for all 5 tickets. I am hoping to keep it around the same. I just priced out one way from Orlando to NY and the price was $870. I just have to keep waiting for that Ding to come out. Maybe this weekend. What is making me crazy is that I booked our flights last year on June 11. We are past that date now but it should be any day. Nothing like making us sweat.
