June, July, August PLANNING thread

Hi Guys - relatively new here, and I have a question.

We had our trip planned for mid-sept this year, but DH is in Afghanistan and had to change his R&R(vacation) date to Aug. SO, I had to change our reservation to Aug 9-18th - How bad are the crowds during this time of year?

Thank you for you help and opinions!

Jennifer

Welcome PilotWife...but, I can't answer your question. Our August people can I'm sure though.

This next storm is suppose to drop 6-12 inches of snow on us. I hope it misses us too mky:cutie: ! That would not be fun.:eeyore:

You guys are killing me with the snow. I feel so lucky that we have not gotten any since the beginning of December. Funny thing is it is rare for us to have snow that early in the winter. We thought it would be a bad year. Gonna be 48 today. Hope you guys warm up.

Pilotwife: As for August, they tell you the later in August the better as far as crowds go. I found our trip in August to be much better than our trip in July as far as crowds. September seems to be lighter though.

Today is the Giants parade. That was such an exciting game. And I normally don't watch.

MKY: I heard that about the second bag too. I bet they are going to see a lot more of those huge suitcases. Can you bring 1 carryon too? I guess it is time to limit the packing.

I hope this new storm misses the field of dreams as well EE22 !

Pilotwife- Welcome ! Ive been to the world in July and in Aug.
July is the more crowded month of the 2 ...yes....but...it can stay that way until the 2nd week in Aug. really....the 3rd week of August generally starts to get slower (if you want to call it that..the world is never really slow ;) )
AND....both months are very HOT and humid !

TP2- I know we have the same weather...and I agree about this winter:cloud9:
I never watch the football game either...but I couldn`t help the yells coming from my living room on Sunday !! ....Mr. Tomar is buying the Superbowl champion BaseBall caps for him and our DS`s today !! ;)

Happy Planning guys !:goodvibes

Tomar: I think we got really lucky.

The game was really amazing. The Giants just played perfectly.

Question for everyone. I have never purchased trip insurance before. I found the one I want but you need to buy it within 21 days of booking your trip and putting down a deposit. I will need to do it today but we are still not sure how much the roof is going to cost and we did not do our taxes yet. Bottem line, we are still not positive if we are going. If we do not buy it today we lose the preexisting condition waiver, which we need because of DD3's asthma. So my question is, do I cancel my reservation with Disney and then rebook in a couple of days? That would buy me 3 extra weeks before needing to put down the deposit.

Okay ......... snow? What IS snow? Seriously - we're supposed to hit 70 today!!! That's just insane - even for the "sunny south"! This is not winter!

EE22 - I'm sorry you're having such a bad time of it up there!
You too MKY! Chi-town's not much better I'm sure!

MKY - congrats on 1/2 of your ADRs!!! I know exactly what y'all mean about lots of $$$ ..... we're not doing the DDP or DDE this year, so everythings OOP ..... that was a lot of letters, huh? :rotfl: And, DD10 is an "ADULT", so lets hit the wallets a little bit more ......... the good thing is that she is still a light eater at times, so we'll have the option of a kids meal for her since we're OOP. ;)

And yes .......... GO GIANTS!!! I was soo happy to see Eli get a ring!!! TP2/Tomar - are y'all going to the parade today? I bet it's a blast!

Oh yeah .......... Happy Mardi Gras everyone!!! :dance3:

I would book something before I cancel with what you have. That code could have sold out already. That's what I would do. They might know that you're doing that now with the new system though...I'm not sure.

I'd be worried that you wouldn't get the great deal otherwise.
If I'm making any sense at all.

TP2 - I agree to book the new reservation first.

You can always look at other insurance carriers. There are a lot out there. Plus check your credit card benefits. Sometimes they sell vacation insurance as well.

We are suppose to get hit with the snow tonight.

Should make for fun driving in the morning.

Parts of Chicago and south are suppose to get 16 inches of snow.
Good Luck mky.
We are in the ban of 6-12 inches. It's stopped now, but due to start again.

I'll take snow over the weather tonight in the south that's for sure.

:
mouseaddicts- We live in NJ so going to the parade would be like going to the Macy`s Thanksgiving day Parade...fun to see...but tooooo many people in one place !!:scared: ...the Parade was in Manhattan...it was exciting to see it on tv though :goodvibes

TP2- I totally agree With EE22...you should have something booked before you cancel that`s for sure....and then...question.... would you be able to secure the 40% off again ?

The weather in the east coast is WARM...today it`s supposed to hit 65 ! ....Not normal at all...:headache: .
I hope the snow storm passes quickly EE and MKY !:wizard:
They are saying that the south is haveing tornados too....this is crazy !:scared1:

I think we might be able to get out by our June trip, but I'm not sure.:eeyore:
We were dumped on big time.:scared1:

I am not sure how much we have yet, but it's a bunch.

I cannot see out the kitchen window...it's plastered with snow from last night. It stopped and did start up again like they said it would.

I wonder how mky:cutie: did?

EE22: Can't see out the kitchen window.:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Mouseaddicts: How are you doing with the Tornados. I saw Atlanta was in that storm pattern.

I wound up buying the insurance. If we have to cancel they will issue a voucher so we can use the insurance on another trip. That is fine with me. So yesterday, without leaving the house, I spent a few hunderd dollars. It is amazing how that happens. I also ordered invitations for my sisters bridal shower. I walked through the house gathering things to return last night. Filled my trunk. I bought some clothes while Christmas shopping that seemed like a good deal but if I have not worn them yet, I probably don't really need them.:headache:

I guess on a good note, it's not that the snow is that deep that I can't see out...it's just because the winds are so high that the snow covers the windows. It's heavy snow so it stuck. It's really not very nice outside here.

In Michigan where we went to school though in the UP, the snow would be as high as the windows. They would get an average of 250 inches of snow each winter. It was amazing, but then, I only had to study and didn't have to venture out in it except to walk to class so it was a lot different.

I'm ready for spring. My heater in my room broke last week too:scared1:
I think they must have fixed it though on Monday when we didn't have school. It was hard to tell because yesterday it was warmer outside. We've had one day of school this week and we haven't had a 5 day week since before winter break. When we have a full week, we will all be dead by Friday.

So...Disney is looking mighty fine right about now!!

EE22 - Yuck! Sorry 'bout all your snow .... that's not fun weather, at all. :headache: Good luck digging out!!!

So ...... on my way to the office this morning - at 8:30 AM - it was 65 degrees!!! What's up with that?!? We are currently inside the "tornado watch" box .... where we live is commonly referred to as "tornado alley" around here .... from work to the house is all in the same path

When my ex & I built our house 10 yrs ago, the back side of our property had damage to all the trees from a previous tornado (about 1 yr before we bought), so our theory at the time was that our property was pre-disasterized! :rolleyes1 Think that will keep us safe???

We'll have to wait out the day & see ........

Mouseaddicts: Good luck. I saw the news and it looks pretty scary.

EE22: I have a friend from Minnesotta. She tells us about the winter there and I don't know how anyone survives it. I pretty much don't leave the house once it gets cold out. Only to take kids where they have to go and run errands.

Good luck with the storms. My mom wins for most tornadoes in our family. She's been in three nasty ones in her life. I like your theory that's for sure. Let's hope it keeps you safe.

I wonder how mky is doing? I can't get the read on Chi Town yet. DD has the TV And isn't giving it up anytime soon.

It's worse up there than here. It's colder there and more snow.
One plus from this winter...DH is ready to move SOUTH:woohoo:

:confused3 Who knows which goes faster, CRT or Le Cellier? Not sure which I should ask for first when calling for dining reservation. My concern with CRT is they take so long to make the reservation the other may be gone before I am done. Does Le Cellier book that fast? Last time I could only get lunch.:confused3

I don't know and there isn't free dining yet and the dining plan is so different that many are not getting it this year.

I read a post that someone called over a month into the 180 days for a July ressie for Le Cellier and they were able to get a reservation.

When I changed our plans...3 different times for this trip:rotfl: I called for CRT several days beyond the 180 day mark for lunch...Dec 31st was our
180th day and I called on Jan 9th when we decided to stay longer...and I was still able to book lunch long after the 180th day mark. I booked for 2 which they say at dining is harder to reserve.

You're right though...Le Cellier with be FAST and CRT will take longer.
Also, they don't open all the CRT at one time...they hold some for the 180th day for new callers from what I understand.

I also called on Friday Feb 1st for a Fantasmic package and had no troubles booking it and before those were always very hard to obtain. That was a month after the 180 days.

I think either way you'll be fine.

I just heard from a good friend that I work with that his house just outside Little Rock got hit. No one's hurt - but he got damage to his roof, trees, etc.
:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
