June/July/August 2006 Code watch

Well i finally gave in and booked a moderate at a AAA rate today for the three rooms we will be needing. I am still hoping for an AP rate at a deluxe but I am seeing all the standard view rooms selling out so I didn't want to wait until everything is gone and be stuck with expensive rooms when no codes come out. I know booking rooms may make it more likely no codes will come out and that is why we have waited so long but we just couldn't risk it any longer.

WHAT IS GOING ON???? I swore that when I got back from the school tonight this thread would be going nuts. :badpc: I can't believe nothing. Has anyone called tonight? :listen:

I would have thought that with the gas prices ....that would have an effect on travel..and perhaps would be an incentive for code for summer months. Surprised not to see something yet.

Man! I was really hoping when I logged on that some people would have gotten codes that leaked out. I haven't been on my computer since about 3 and I was hoping everyone here would just be going crazy! Does this mean it doesn't look good for tomorrow? :confused3

Actually so far all the travel articles I have read in the USAToday, NYTimes etc indicate that gas prices are not dramatically impacting summer travel yet. (And prices actually went down about 20 cents a gallon where I live this week) I think depending on "gas prices" to cause a Disney discount isn't a good hope. The trend right now seems to be folks will still go, but buy fewer souvieners....

That is exactly what I am thinking. :sad1:

I don't even have an AP.. but I've been following this thread as a mildly interested outsider.

My opinion is.. if codes are coming.. and I think they are.. remember, they still may not be available till June 1st. It wouldn't be the first time that codes only came out 3 - 4 days before booking date.

Patience is a virtue.... that's why it's so HARD to be virtuous.

I totally understand what you are saying. The stress I am under is I still need to purchase airline tickets and we are a grand gathering and EVERYONE is looking to me as to when we are going and what this is going to cost. People have to put in their vacation days from work, my sister wants to take summer college classes and doesn't know which session to take. A lot is riding on this and I am flexible but I just want to get on with it already.

I would give them rack rates and make a date. It's getting late to put in for vacation days at work. Only a suggestion, but then if ap rates do come out, everyone will save. Too much stress for a vacation that's for sure.

I'd set a final date and if they aren't out, plan it regardless. Say 5/10 or else. What you save in ap rates might be eaten away by rising airfare.

I know what you are saying. I said yesterday that we will make a decision this upcoming weekend. We can always go in August, it is just cutting it close with back to school and it will be a long summer with the kids asking when are we going? I keep trying to tell myself that we will have a better time because the crowds will be less and we will have free dining but I really wanted to go in July because we would be celebrating my 10 year anniversary and my sisters 30th birthday. Thought it would be a great way to celebrate. Okay, I am going to control my stress until this weekend and keep up hope for this week. :goodvibes

I know this may sound wrong and I hope it will be taken with the good intentions it's meant, but given that it's such a short time until your trip, why cause yourself this extra stress? Just go with what you all can afford without the discount. Seriously, the stress just isn't worth it IMO. I know for me, based on the difference between a AAA rate and AP rate for one week at Poly GV, it's about $300. Sure, it's $300 I'd like to save but it also isn't enough to make it worth a ton of extra stress. Just decide and plan it, then you'll just get an extra bonus if an AP rate comes out for your timeframe.

As an aside to anyone reading, and maybe others that usually plan trips in the summer will agree, but I've found the earlier you can get your airline tickets the better. Especially now with the way gas prices have climbed each spring for the last couple of years. I've been going to Disney most every August for awhile now and I can say that in the past it was better to wait and see what deals you could get as summer neared. Not so the last two years, I've seen good deals in January for August two years now and snapped it up, thankfully since they went WAY up after that last year and this/ This winter I checked every day and in January saw a great rate on AA for $520 RT total for three from Boston to Orlando direct. Yeah, it forced me to commit to dates earlier than I may have liked, but I'm beyond glad I did because I haven't been seeing anything for the same dates under $1000 RT.

I guess my point is, don't hold out and stress over these AP rates since they either will be or won't be and there isn't much any of us can do about it. I think a lot of people short themselves on other potential savings just to be sure they go when an AP rate is available, which could end up costing more in several different ways, not the least of which is stress levels!

Here's to hoping for some bonus savings for all of us! :wizard:

Don't forget about the savings with the DDE card either. I can't remember if you already have an annual pass or not.

That does not sound wrong at all. Problem is I am the least picky out of anyone in my party. My dad WON'T stay value. Only saw couple of pictures and said NO WAY! Dh wants a hotel so we are talking deluxe and not moderate but only wants to spend $100 a night  and my mom wants to stay GF. I know, I know...it all adds to my stress. This weekend we will all be together for Mothers Day so we will make a decision. On top of it, I was trying to find offsite options and DH said no way. Only wants to stay onsite because of Magical Express and onsite transportation. I should have bought stock in Sutter Home, it would make up for the price difference with no AP discount. :rotfl: Oh, I am still hopeful that SW will put out a ding fare for our flights. They have been coming, just not as frequently.

I do have an AP and the DDE card. AP expires July 13 and DDE is good for entire month of July. We are not big eaters and only will go to a couple of sitdowns. We are fine with a rotisserie chicken and a salad for the family so the DDE did save but not as much as the room discount.

5:35 am --> Reporting for duty.

Of course, no changes to any sites at this early hour. I'm starting to feel like any codes will be released later in the month, but that doesn't stop me from dragging myself out of bed and to the computer each morning! I'm off to get ready for work, but I'll be back before 7:00 with my dialing fingers ready.

I'm here. Tired from the incredible storm last night that kept me awake, but I'm here! :surfweb: Java in my Tink mug.
