Anyone else having a hard time finding cheap airline tickets ..We leave out of Oklahoma or DFW and for June 19 the flights are 244.00 each way..I usually pay 109.00 each way. Should I wait?
Try Spirit. They recently announced they were starting to fly out of Dallas to MCO beginning in February 2012. I just snapped up flights for $89 and $119. They do nickel and dime you on luggage--even charge for a carryon, but it is way better that the fare on American for the same afternoon that is currently at $265ish.
We usually fly Airtran or American Airlines out of DFW but I have been watching airfares since May 2011 for our March 2012 trip and was starting to get seriously worried because I was used to paying about $110-120ish per person each way, yet this year the flights for the dates I needed (not flexible, a Saturday morning and a Sunday afternoon) were never less than $220 and have been as much $300 plus per person each way

! I am pretty sure it is because American does not currently have any non-stop competition to MCO out of DFW since Airtran merged with Southwest and the Wright Amendment required that Airtran (as a company owned by Southwest) not fly direct to outlying states out of Dallas (Airtran's last flight out of DFW was in November). I even thought to try Southwest, even thought that usually is a pain due to having to stopover somewhere, but on the first day the flights opened for my dates the fare was already $388 per person each way

. I considered Southwest out of Austin, Houston, and OKCity too but the cost savings was not quite enough to make it worth it with gas, parking, and time to those other cities.
Good luck. I like to fly American and I am happy they have some competition now in the "Direct to MCO" flights--hoping that will make American's fares come down! I looked on Spirit for June earlier today contemplating a June trip and there are some great fares--mostly $119 per flight on the weekends, and as low as $49 most Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
