June 5, 2016 - Magic Goes to England, Ireland, Scotland and France

Gosh, I hope everyone's job situations will work out so no one has to miss out. DH is excited because he retires on May 31st so he didn't have to put a leave request in :) I already put mine in and am constantly reminded how fortunate I am that my workplace lets me make plans this far in advance.

BadPinkTink, I want to thank you for looking in and offering assistance with Dublin. My mother's family is in Donegal and we hope to visit the week before the cruise, have not been there since our visit almost 10 years ago. Then we stayed in Dublin for a few days prior to heading up, really enjoyed every minute. On our day in port this go round we plan to get to the Trinity College area, visit the campus library, temple bar, Dublin castle, city hall, the river, St Stephens Green (love it there), if time permits St Patrick's Cathedral and of course lots of little shops and pubs along the way. WE know this is fairly aggressive but you have to have a plan so that when you find a nice little pub with good music you can sit and look over the plan to see what you are cutting off. Really excited about getting back to your beautiful city.

 aww its no problem,in fact I first heard about the ship coming to Dublin in the local media. Its actually a very big deal for the Irish Economy and the Irish Tourist Board that the ship is docking in Dublin and they are promoting it widely. Our little country has been through a very bad few years and the fact that Disney including Dublin as a port is a huge and seen as a sign that the country is recovering from the recession.

Lol that sounds doable to me, I would do similar in an afternoon. Temple Bar though I would just wander through and avoid the pubs there. There are far nicer and less expensive pubs in other areas.

I dont know how much time you guys have to explore Dublin, but Im thinking maybe a quick DIS meet up might be nice, depending on what people plan to do during their Dublin stop off :)

BadPinkTink,

The ship is docking at 8:15 and departing at 5:15....what would you suggest as the must do's for Dublin?

Dublin city centre only comes to life at 9am. It depends on what interests you. Dublin city centre is like a living museum, every street corner is a part of history. I would say the best thing to do is a hop on hop off bus tour. This will bring you to most of the main places. As you have such a short time, I would skip a sit down meal and just snack on the go to maximise time. You can always have a decent meal when you get back to the ship.

I would say you will time to do The Book of Kells, Kilmainham Jail and Christchurch Cathedral. I would skip Guinness Store House.

We would like to do the hoho bus and see these sights -
Glasnevin cemetery museum
Kilmainham Gaol jail
St Stephens green
Trinity college library - book of kell
Will we have time to do theirs and maybe the church?

Yes thats doable but maybe leave off Glasnevin. All the others are on the south side of the city, thats on the northside about, 20 minutes or more from the city centre.

@gydell Kilmainham Jail is the farthest out, so I would get on the Hop On Hoff bus and stay on the bus direct to there. Then come diectly back to the city centre, get a sandwich in Starbucks or other sandwich place and then go to Trinty College and the book of Kells. Walk from there up Grafton Street, a pedestrian shopping street to Disney shop, which is right beside St Stephens Green Park.

Sounds good. Where are you flying to London from?
We are actually looking at flying out of Washington DC. It's about a 5 hour drive for us, but the Aer Lingus flights for the two of us will save us $1000 versus trying to fly out of Raleigh on someone. Looked at Atlanta also, but it is about a 7 hour drive.

BadPinkTink should just be our tour guide and have us pay her directly for a guided tour. LOL
